Your confusing ram memory with Hard drive storage memory .
right click on my computer /properties ,and it will show how much ram you have .

Are you going to sites that tell you ,you need java to view the site .is so there should be a link to click to go to a java download on that site ,if you are not ,then you don't need it to use you computer if thats what you mean .

no such thing as 100% safe doing a upgrad with any version of windows .
memory ,i reccomend anthing over 256meg ,over 300 best .

I saved some web pages which only play properly when their files are in temp internet files folder ... so whenever I empty the folder I have to get online again to play the web pages. So thats why I copied the files in another folder but they cant be re written again to the temp folder. How can I overcome that ?

Hey everyone. I need some help. I have a Dell Dimension XPS Gen4 and it came with a DVD burner drive (DVD R/RW). It burns DVDs, however i noticed they won't play on any dvd players, just computers. However, when i burn the same movie with my brothers external dvd burner, it'll play perfectly on a dvd player. I noticed that his external said DVR burner while mine only said DVD burner. Does this make a difference? I'm kinda clueless when it comes to this matter. If I got a internal DVR burner instead of an internal DVD burner would my movies work on dvd players? Thanks!

Can't see that making the difference mine a dvd burner and i burm moves that play in my tv setup dvd player .
What are u using to burn the movies ,what file type are the movies ,are you copying orginal dvd movies or movies from p2p/torrents.

I have modem troubles on my Laptop. I have got on the internet about a month ago with no troubles but now I cant even dial out. My device Manager says the modem is working fine. I am afraid it is a virus and I have forgot to update my antivirus. I ask someone about it and they said my modem is just about gone or is gone.

Lets see it could be the wall jack, the modem jack ,spyware .virus, bad phone lines ,bad modem ,your ISP ,the list goes on .you haven't used it in a month ,just what error message do you get if any !

How can I write in Temporary Internet Files Folder ... it seems to be read only and I cant make it writable.

write what ,it is set to read only have you unchecked that ,in the folders properties.

Hi ,go to mycomputer right click on you hard drive ,properties//tools/check disk ,check of to auto fix system errors .it will prompt you to reboot to run the scan ,do so.
for the record it checkdisk in xp not scandisk

then i suggest reloading norton and then going to sdd and remove and uninstall it

not 100% sure but i think this could be achived with the use of wake on lan compadiable nic card in the server,networked to the winxp machine ,you then use a magic packet program from xp to wake up the server ,.

I have Coreldraw 11 installed on my HP ZV6005 laptop running XP. I dont need to use coreldraw anymore, so I went to unistall it throught the proper procedures. settings\add remove\...etc. When I hit the uninstall button I recieved the following error message.

Unhandled exception error

error: 0x80040702

failed to load dll: swcusten

setup will now terminate

How can i uninstall Coreldraw 11?

Actually ,I'm not the worlds best speller,Its because I also have dyslexia.and 47 yrs ago when I started school they really didn't know how to or didn't bother helping people like Me. :)

try a fdisk /mbr, reboot, fdisk again and wipe the partition table. If this doesn't work, you could use a Knoppix cd to boot into a Linux environment and use the Linux version of fdisk which should get rid of the partitions.

Hi ,thought i would try fooling with SUSE personal .started a install on a 6.4 gig HDD ,cot called away from computer and didn't get back for over an HR.
it foramtted and created 3 partitions .one 450+meg primary dos ,and two nondos partition 50% each of remaing gigs ,i changed my mind,using fdisk to delete nondos partiitions and the primary ,and create new partition all i can get is the 450+meg what happened to the rest of the 6 gigs ,and how can i get it back.Thanks

i agree with everybody here. As an experienced auction buyer and seller (although not in pc parts) you do have to be careful and check out the seller thoroughly. if you're not sure whether to buy something dont hesitate to ask questions about the item. I brought some PC parts from ebay and have had no problems with them (yet). Also auction sites can be ideal if you're looking for something that isn't easy to find in the shops. I got myself a 4 way fan speed controller capable of controlling up to 8 fans from a seller on ebay. easy to install and cheap.

If you're going to buy used parts ask the seller which year they are from.

I didn't know spyware, etc. had been ruled out as a problem...sorry about posting in the wrong place. As requested, I downloaded the cpu-z program and ran it. What do you want to know from its report? When it first opens, the processor core speed is clocked at 1654, but then almost immediately drops to 530.0 mhz. It seems to recognize the full 768 mb of ram.

Thats what i wanted to know it it read it right and then changed .not sure whats going on ,but i remember we had someone with the same problem awhile back but cant remember what fixed it ,or if it got fixed .
Getting back to spyware ,or virus ,have you check computer for both .

Hi,got a problem with the monitor on the thinkpad ,its gone totally dark ,you can see the display if you look rally close in bright lit room .
I can get it to display when plugged into my computer monitor ,but only when in safe mode.when i boot up with it connected to my monitor it shows the win XP starting up but goes black when the winxp welcome screen comes up and stays black when winxp loads fully ,it has a Active matrix lcd monitor ,i searched and read but don't totally under stand ,dos anyone know if this type has a florcesent light source or does the definition of active matrix mean it creates its own light , and i have to replace the monitor ,and not just a light stick thingie,or could it be the intel video display chipset ,any insite would help ,Thanks

It obviously has thermal paste on it, and what plastic are you talking about? The one that covers the CPU? If I didn't remove that I wouldn't have a machine right now! And my fan is way too quiet, 2250-2300 RPM, it never spins faster then that.

Your the one here looking for help ,just offering some things to check that some people miss ,The computer will run with the protective plastic tape left on the heatsinc ,just run hot!!I've seen lots of new computers built with out thermal paste!!
I certinaly didn't mean the hard plastic packaging that the item was shipped in !

when you are checking the cpu fan to see if its working and remove to make sure it has thermal grease on it ,also make sure they removed the protective plastic off the bottom of the heatsinc

cold be a bus speed jumper on the board set wrong ,board may be overclocked to high
