PS: The tower...arent they're all in the tower right now? And ok Il research on the different types of ram right now..

yes ,but what im trying to tell you to do is this .get a hardrive
with nothing of interest on it ,install it in the tower as master by its self, and format and reload winxp on it to see if it works with the new video card and stuff.

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Yea, if it was my computer I would be completely fine with it. Only it's not.

i learned a long time ago to leave peoples computers alone ,unless there are a customer of mine ,then my not responsible policy is in effect .

So, when you run scf/Scannow stuff, does it overwrite everything? It doesn't erase any of the data there, does it?

it overwrites nothing ,only check for missing or corrupt windows files ,not personal data ,its a system tool command only .we are not going to stear you wrong .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

tower = computers,metal outer case .
the ram issue is a very complicated one.search www.google.com for "different ram types " and see what you find

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

whoa whoa slow down. Can you explain kinda more detailed about your suggestion? And once again i think my monitor went down again, so i might need to use the 64 mb chips now?
And btw, can you give any tips on how to be more careful with Ram? I heard its sensitive which is why I killed it, i dont want to kill anymore.

you are suppose to carry it in a static free bag .anyway you may not have killed you ram ,i handle it all the time out side of a static bag ,i really think you need to take to a pro .i can explain it all ,but you don't seem to under stand me !!
you say you had hardware issues in you first post ,what hardware issue was it !.
do you have more than one hard drive in the computer or ,just 1 drive ,partitioned to multiple drives .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

It all leads to the motheroard and ram, but how could ram have anything to do with hard drives, which leads to the motherboard totally!

you could try that ,but why not try taking one harddrive and putting it into the tower .taking the winxp cd and boot to it , and format hdd, and reload windows and all necessary drivers to run the computer .try a clean install of xp to see how it all works .
the CPU and Ram are the hart of a computer .take either away and computer is useless!

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

what web page does it change to .,most likely cause is spyware or trojan ,i suggest spybot search and destroy ,and avg antispyware ,both can be found at www.filehippo.com.in the antispyware section .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

what caused the hard drive problem anyway? I mean its kinda weird...and the no signal thing that i got again...i really dont want it to be that i killed my second ram chip but...

i have no idea as to why anything is happing to your computer ,because I'm not there to see inside the box ,see how its all hooked up,or how you are handling the delicate parts of the computer when removing and transporting them !sorry i have nothing else to offer you except you really need a pro to look at it now i think..

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

I'm sorry! I didn't mean to make people angry. I'm just desperate!

its only a computer ,nothing to be desperate about ,i would offer help but i only know of one way to fix your problem, reload windows is what i do to fix it !others may know another way .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

One more thing: I typed in "chkdsk" and it said "The volume contains one or more unrecoverable problems".

btw...what does the /f stand for..?

the f stands for fix, when you did a chkdsk without the /f did you let it run threw the complete chkdsk ,could take an 1 hr or more

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

at the command prompt type in chkdsk /f ,note there is a space between the k and the /

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Allright i guess ill try it tonight. I wont loose any data right? no matter if it fixes the problem or not right? if yes than good. Ill try it tonight, and thanks for the help, although dont go far away i might still need you :P

YES. Good luck ,i'll be around ,don't do much else with my free time .good luck

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Thanks for the advice. So its not a hardware failure and my drives are ok right? Thats great.
Also will I use any data? I think i did that once but it was long ago and i really dont remember what happened. See, I dont feel like loosing any data atm. =) I wont do anything before you answer... Yeah. As far as I remember all that happens is that you have to wait for it to finish repairing...Whatever it is i want to make sure I wont loose any data. oh and I promise ill never use the back button anymore :P

there will be no data loss ,it will repair the data structure of the hard drive ,this may or may not fix your problem ,but will not hurt to run it ,you have to do it as a process of delimitation ,to fixing you problems.

DUDE quit with the freaking flaming. We're just asking for help, and if you're not providing any then DON'T REPLY! And I'm ok with him hijacking my thread. Its more comfortable for others just to answer to us both than running around form thread to thread.

Im trying to help them in there own post so no sense confusing thinks by posting here .
and you both have different problems ,similar but different .
any way , re-read and i think this was the cause of you problem ,when you did this!!!

Before that happened I was playing a game when I came home to take out the Ram. My leg was hurting so I decided to play a game for fun for 10-15 mins and then go back to him. When I had to go i didnt exit the game or anything, just turned the comp off through the button ON THE BACK because I was in a hurry. I just took them Ram out and went back to the store.

windows needs to write info the registry when you shut down computer ,that is why it pauses ,and says windows is saving your settings, when its shutting down! your abrupt shutdown didn't allow this to happen properly .you may need to use the winxp cd to boot to and do a repair .
and do a chkdsk /r.

I disagree, and its against forum polices ,to hijack others threads ,

ok ,im going to re-read from the top and see if it all makes any sence and maybe i can offer something constructive ,in stead of negative

the thing that gets me about computers and computer problems is people who no nothing about computers think its ok to take them apart and try and fix them ,do you fix your own tv,car,washer/dryer/fridge /dvd player ,get my point .!!

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

nice story but it got boring for me ,so did you ever take the 64 meg chips and throw them away .to see if it went back to working correctly .

Ok, wow, I think i have sort of the same problem. so my computer decided that for some reason the explorer.exe file was a virus and decided to delete it. Now i have no desktop, no taskbar, no icons NO WINDOWS EXPLORER!! I don't want to reboot my computer because I don't have a backup of all the info on my comp! I tried everything, from regedit to downloading adaware to registry mechanic, but I don't know how to get my explorer back! I am currently using my Task manger to open all my file (ex. Firefox, ITunes, photoshop etc.). I also didn't get a cd because my laptop came installed with Windows XP home edition, but I know that there is a cd image on the comp, so that is not an issue. Can someone please help me?

this is the third post you made for same problem ,just one post is good enough ,just wait for answers ,we don't get paid ,we answer for free.

no to preach ,but you were /are suppose to burn copies of the recovery cd's yourself when you first use it. .if had you could use it to do a , sfc /scannow , from run. to replace missing and corrupt file ,you still can if you could borrow a windows disk ,the same version as you own!

Thank you for ur reply but I wanted to know the definition of a low profile, not a picture, and wanted to know whether a bracket was needed. I dont think u answered any of my questions but i posted this same thread on another forum site incase. thanks for the feedback tho :)

Hello ,yes you will need the bracket,it holds the video card in place ,it wold work but you would have to be really careful nevet to move the monitor cable ,because it might un-seat the video card ,low profile video cards are used in desktop ,flat style computer boxes.like a compaq sff[small form factor ]like this .

no, no BIOS, the screen dosen't even break from standby.

ive checked the seating a thousand times. the only thing i can think of is the Mobo. *GULP*

am i being rash, or is there anything i can do?

thanks.

did you unplug the computer from the power source ,hold the power button in for about 30 seconds to drain power from motherboard ,did you touch the metal case to ground yourself before touching the ram stick.!! if no you could have fried the ram chip ,dose the computer work with just the one stick of ram in that you didn't remove .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

well according to the label on the hard drive the jumper is right, unless because the other hard drives have less jumper pins, does that affect it?

no ,if you had a master and a slave drive all ready ,then it should be just a matter of making sure the new drive is set to slave and hooked to same cable as old slave drive and it should have worked ,
good nite ,Im going to lala land

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

i did the boot cd of it and when i went to setup the harddrive it couldnt find any hard drives to setup

without seeing you have the jumper's right there isn't much i can say except maybe you got a bad hdd!

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Could be that, no one is in front of the doors, no moving or bobbing, nothing out of the ordinary. Just sitting in one spot, randomly cuts out and the router has to be reset. Even in other parts of the house, no difference. Do you think changing the channel would make a difference?

it might , cordless phones can interfere ,they operate the same way, cant hurt to try different channel,

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

i have windows xp proffesional

which of them utilities do i require.

the recommended one is the windows version ,it will run from the winxp you have if you can get the computer too boot with both drives installed / if you can't just hook the drive as master on the primary ide ,and get the dos version ,either floppy disk or cdrom version

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

yeah i do believe it needs to be formatted ,but you also have problem starting computer with it installed ,try installing it a master on the secondary ide channel ,were the cdrom is , i will post a link to software utility for the drive ,what OS is install on your main drive .

the name of the hdd involved would have been nice.
anyway ,the new drive is brand new i assume ,has it been formated ,did it come with hdd utilities disk to help you set it up.

I also want to add another gig of ram. Will any PC3200 DDR ram work, or do I need something specific? You guys are awesome. Thanks.

it is best to try and get an exact match to the one you all ready have .
if you don't all ready have cpu-z get it here ,and run it, and click on SPD along the top and you and even get the manufactures name ,

AGP 3.0 (4X & 8X Speed at 1.5 and 0.8 Volt Only)

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

can u tell me more y u not recomemed is it becuz its not good enough or somthing esl

wat about this model GA-945GMF will this one support dual core cpu

heres the link for both motherboards

945GMF=http://www.gigabyte.co.nz/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=1910

8I945P Pro=http://www.gigabyte.co.nz/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=1905

in the links you provide ,just to the right of the picture of the motherboard there is a related links box with a bunch of links in it about this board ,click on the one that says CPU support .if it says N/A in the right column, when you get there ,then it doesn't support that CPU .If it says f6/f7 then that indicates the bios version the board has to have to support the corresponding cpu . i check and in my opinion of the list neither one supports dual core cpu

What exactly should I change the boot file info to? In the default operating system box...I got "XP Professional Setup" and I also have "XP Professional"...so I'm assuming that it should be changed to "XP Professional"...Thx for all the assistance thus far.

you edit out the one that doesn't boot to the desk top ,they should be worded different ,you will see this when you are sitting at the computer ,looks to me like you need to edit out the setup one .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

not likely ,if it wants to continue with setup then he went as far as formating the drive, and there will be no windows installed to boot to anymore .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

something like that ,try it both ways see if you see any difference

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

now im confused ,but it look like according to the link that you can achieve dual Chanel with 3 chips ,i thought from what all i have been reading about dual channel lately that there had to be equal size chips in 2 matching channels ,but they show using 2 matching chips in the 2 matching channels and 1 unmatched size chip in a single channel by itself.any as you have no 2 chips that match in size they it looks like you are stuck using the single mode .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

the 2 chips need to of equal size to work in dual mode ,and motherboard and cpu that supports it ,you definitely don't want to throw the 2100 into the mix, even in single channel mode.and the 2 512 and the 1 gig will not work together in ddr mode ,from what iv'e read on the site linked anyway more info here.

What i guess im trying to ask is there a place that can guide me to a board where i can be able to pull the old memory from the board and be able to use it. Plus if i get a new board will it come with a guide to show me where everything hooks up at,plus what do i do about an O/S. Will i have to go out and buy XP pro or home when i get a new board? Sorry for the dumb questions but just wanting to know what im about to get myself into before i start..

cant answer your questions because i have no idea what motherboard or type of ram is in the one you have now.yes you will get a book with the motherboard if you buy it new.you may or may not have to buy new os,when you get new board load the winxp disk you have now and see if it will activate .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

i think that like winxp you can go to control panel and users and change the way you log on and off

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Do you have any suggetions as how i can get them off the panel (This panel is the one where it shows all your booting info)

If it still shows in the process of the task manger its still running on you computer !
I use hijackthis ,insted of msconfig to stop program i don't want running on startup ,all you have to to is check off to fix the 04 entry's in hijackthis .

I have a T6420 E Machines that powers up, but doesn't boot the keyboard/mouse is not reading. Plus the machine seems to be making a different noise than it normally did (sounds louder). Is this the motherboard or the processor. And what is an affordable alternative to put into the machine so i wont have this problem again. Any help would be appreciated.

sounds louder ,did you open the case to see if any or all fans are working ,also not full of dust ,could be a heating problem ,could also just be a bad power supply ,and bad power supplies lead to bad motherboard .really hard to tell you what to put in to fix it,as it it be many things . and to never have the problem again, is impossible ! you own it, you will always have problems .
