if it would be i incorrect slots it wouldn't power up or would be seeing only one slot installed)

Don't bite please ,correct me as i could be wrong but don't think I am ,if you have 4 slots 2 different colors ,like black and blue ,or black and yellow,if all 4 are black its a older[or cheaper] board and you will have to check manual as to what 2 to use for ddr mode . if you put 2 stick in the first two slots one black and one blue ,the computer will still boot ,but will not be in DDR mode .

Edit: also who makes you mommyboard ,and just because they are bot pc3200 don't make them a match ,same maker and same # all round on the chips make them a pair

when i use cmd in run .i go to the file or folder in mycomputer .highlite the address and copy it and then in the run/ cmd prompt i type del hit spacebar and then i right click next to the blinking cursor and choose to paste this copy the path .
don't know if the safe mode admin ,has more control but being in safe mode might help anyway .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

This is correct:
DEL \Documents and settings\UserA\Desktop\<a certain file>

that would only be correct if the file is on the desktop .also needs the C:\ for full path .
open mycomputer ,go to view ,toolbars ,and check off address bar ,then when you use mycomputer to go to the file it will show the full path to the file .
and the administrator acct you are referring to is found by going into safe mode ,repeatedly hit f8 on bootup to get to safe mode .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

That line is just the command line telling you where you are. No need to delete it (You can't, anyway).
You should enter "DEL C:/Documents and settings/<User A>"

right

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

did you try using the cmd prompt in Start/Run to delete them .type cmd into run and type del use a space then the path to the folder . I just deleted google earth exe from the root of my C: drive like this .
del c:\Google_Earth_BZXD.exe

you would do something like DEL C:\Documents and Settings\the name of User here \folder name

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Uhh, i hope i translate this correctly since i have a Dutch version of XP

all i can do is check the box with 'Make this folder a shared network folder' next to it

I don't do much with shared folders ,but sometime you get a take ownership option ,maybe if you click to make it a shared folder you can take ownership ,cant hurt to try !!

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

It is asking for the Computer administrator code... So I thought I would need some sort of password that the company put on..

wel lim sorry ,you didn't say in first post that is was looking for a code/password ,just contact admin ,best to take to a pro and have them format and reload winxp for you ! good luck .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

actually 512 ram is not as great as it use to be ,more is really need now ,wireless ,are these games you play over the Internet,or from disk or games installed on computer

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

please contact the administrator!!! you became the administrator when you bought the laptop! no need to reinstall windows ,to use wireless ,what install disk from the provider you were trying to install .

I tried to delete windows !!!! you cant just delete windows ,you would need to format the harddrive to get rid of windows ,and you would need a winxp cd to reinstall winxp .and some knowledge of computers

Our home has a wireless network set up,

you say you have a wireless network setup ,in order to have this you would have to have a wireless router ,hooked to you inter modem, and the computer with the Wireless-G PCI Adapter with RangeBooster in will be picking up its signal from you wireless router .or wired to the modem and is not using the Wireless-G PCI Adapter with RangeBooster.
wireless route would look something like this .
http://sanantonio.craigslist.org/sys/515166164.html

So can the computer become a router?

No

its 5:45am and im off to work soon and will not return until 7pm

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

if the computers not on the Internet then you really don't need the updates as most are security update and you don't need those really !

Google search results ,remember use at you own risk .

wire the xbox to the wireless router ,not the pc.

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

god ,is everyone afraid to click on icons ,you needed to click around within that section to find the controller .so i will shorten the search for you ,click on the pci/pnp network ,this will show you what in the box ,then search www.google.com for what it shows ,this should lead to drivers for the device .search like this , "what it shows drivers"

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

ok ,in the aida32 program ,go to network in the tree,it should tell you what network casd/device is installed

I was thinking about that also, but I have now way to test it. So, I tried installing my XP Pro. disc to see what would happen. My disc installed properly with no errors. I then tried installing the XP Home disc over it; this time I got past the plugin.ocx error, but still got the "CD":\I386\asms In page error.
Thanks.

i hope by over it you mean you did a full format of drive first ,and it still points to a bad or dirty win xp home cd,

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

It shouldn't matter just for an sfc if i was using a Dell disk on an HP, should it?

should not matter ,what matters is that the disk has sp2 on it ,if the computer has winxp home with sp2 installed it will know that look for it on the disk .

wow, dual core ,4 gig of ram and still risked its all to overclock ,just home much speed do people need!
I guess thats' why you call yourself maverick .lol good luck getting this straightened out .i remember some of my meager attempts at over clocking and something about holding down the Home key and rebooting ,to reset settings, but that was long ago

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

sfc [space] /scannow.the / is need or it will just flash on the screen for a second and not run.for me anyway .
just to clarify

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

uh huh yeah thanks thats helpful. I guess ill just go ask on some other forums then.

im sorry to hear that ,but im having a hard time helping someone who know little or nutthing about computer let alone trying to do what you are trying to fix,you really need to do a search for "how to basic computer" and do a few weeks of reading ,learning .then search intemetiate computing! and so and so on!!!!! I suggested you may have a bad ribbon cable and you then want to know what to do ! obvious thing would be to get another ribbon cable and try that .bye bye , .oh by the way i am doing this for FREE.

A genuine thank you to Caperjack. AVG antispyware worked like a charm. Problem #2 is solved. Problem #1 seems to me will only be solved by reinstalling xp. Thanks again.
Christiaan.

maybe not heat!reread post, the fact it stays running in safe mode ,i change my opinion, could be you need to run some virus and spyware tools on you computer too. or clean install .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

you have/had a serious infection that you may or may not be able to recover from with out re-install winxp.this is where i as a neighbourhood computer repair guy ,remove the hard drive and hook it to my compute and run virus scan, and spyware scan on it.if that doesn't help it then that i will try a winxp install over top. and if that doesn't work i then format the computer and reinstall winxp .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

yes they can ,bad ribbon cable or not hooked up right ,or something like that .

Heat ,caused by dirty inner computer, fans ansd stuff is the main cause of computer freezing !

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Hi to all,
I trust that you are all enjoying the holidays, even those of us who have to work! ;o) I've got two problems which I know you bright sparks will help this old buddy with.

One: My computer freezes just after log-on. It shows the desk top and refuses to do anything after that. I'm running xp home sp2 and have tried everything I know but to no avail. I'm able to run it in safe mode and have saved all my files on a memory stick. Now I want to format the hd and re-install xp. But..., before I start I just want to make sure I'm going to do it right. Any help will be truly appreciated.

Two: I'm using my wife's computer in the mean time, but noticed something strange. There's a web address on IE "http://main.94ak.com/" which I don't recognise. I have deleted the cookies, files and history on IE properties and it shows clear, but this unknown address keeps appearing and when I click on it without going on line, it starts to run but after half an hour I stopped it, because nothing visible has appeared. I'm afraid that it might be something with malicious intent. When it runs the desk top screen appears on the IE page. Any explanations or comments are most welcome.

Regards,
Christiaan.

the site take me to mild Chinese porn ,i would scan computer with AVG antispyware and spybot search and destroy, both can …

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

first ,how do you know the hdd is whats not being detected ,do you get any error messages on the screen [no] nothing on the screen, then its likely a video card problem ,do you have a sound card ,network card ,modem ,or any other pci card install if yes remove them ,un-plug cdrom's and just hook up the harddrive ,and video ,If i remember correctly you motherboard dose not have onboard video ,so try one card and then the other .
if its not recognizing the hdd then it could be dead ,but i drought it !!
make sure the ide ribbon cable is install correctly and tight .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

you just don't get it do you ,im pretty sure your monitor works, its you install of winxp that not working ,you computer is not computing, not sending video signal to the monitor .im all most 100% sure you need to reload winxp ,if not im really missing something !!

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

I cant afford a pro to look at it, he's probably gonna charge me a lot of cash and...no. Thats why im here..

LOL ,when you blow the thing up you will be handing out much more cash for a new computer ,the old saying ,pay me now or pay me later applies here .
