how do i fix the driver problem if i cannot download the driver ? i know how and where to get the drivers but am unable to odwnload the same.

you will need to do it on another computer ,copy them to a disk or thumb drive and bring them to you computer and install them .

To solve this problems, use your Windows CD to repair the Windows. POP! All done.

Unfortunately none of these manuals relate to expanding the system and are more 'Getting Started' and "East Start' manuals as well as 'Restoring Installed Software' , 'Warranty', 'Safety' etc.

Ok, that not good.,the data sheet on the site says manual on hard drive ,is it the same as the one on the site,I guess they don't want ya taking it apart yourself!

it may be under the keyboard ,but did you remove the ram chip ,sometime the other slot is under the top chip.
according to there web site there are two slots .check data sheet link on the right

borrow a winxp disk and use it if you have a winxp key

when ever i go to the console it says that no hard disk drives are installed so how can i get to the recovery console

all i can say is if that the case then the hdd died!send back the laptop .

in a previous post i suggested you remove and plug harddrive back in did you try this .

also for f8 start hitting it and don't stop ,as soon as you turn on the laptop

you could try removing hard drive and then plugging it back in ,make sure to unplug it from power source ,and take out the battery first

I tried to start it in safe mode or any mode possible and it still did the same thing. also i tried to press f8 when it starts and nothing happens. and why should you not format the drive? when i booted from disk and selected recovery console it said no hard disk drives could be found?? should i send mine in for a replacement ( is it fubar) because i have a 3 year replacement plan but thats my last resort is there any other way to fix it???? .so you can go to safe mode and it see drive ,go in again and run chckdsk check it off to fix all errors and don't interrupt it ,also, not sure it will help , but if it were me i would open case and unplug hdd power cabele and data transfer cable and and plug it back in ,from drive and from motherboard

did you fixboot or fixmbr in the recovery console,type help in RC to see command options .

Strange you are only complaining about sound with all those drivers missing ,how are you connecting to the internet !!,
Anyway ,you need to use the motherboard disk that should have come with the computer to load drivers for these devices ,or with the make and model # go the the computers makers website

hitting f8 on startup ,when you get to screen to choose safe mode or normal boot ,you will see ,"disable auto restart on system error" or what ever it actually says . click on that ,you should then get the bsod to stay up long enough to copy down the error reported .

pick your OS here and download and install drivers ,see what happens .

so it gave no hardware updates ,can you tell me if this onboard network or a addin pci network card .onboard plug will be higher up on the back of tower near the usb plugs and pci nic will be lower down on the back of tower .also i don't think belarc is best program to tell you whats in the box ,download and run Everest from link below ,and check out network settings in the left panel .

i would go to windows updates and do the custom scan , check for hardware driver updates ,it might have one for the nic.

also, you can get windows updates without using windows update - just find the updates you need by googling and download them or altervatively use a program called WUD

I am a very argumentative person but i will stop here,by saying just one more thing ,they are not looking for windows updates they are looking to get network working .you suggested they use custom windows updates to see if it had a driver update for there onboard nic ,so it has nothing to do with Windows update download program ,it will not download the nic driver for them ! that it i said enough !!

please explain .as the windows updates need to scan the computer to find the nic in question to didplay a updated driver ,so they would need to connect to the internet on the computer .also they tried reloading drives and tried installing a pci nic

vista has problems with some nvidia chipset network controllers , so i assume xp does too. check MS update for hotfixes (use custom not express)

that is a sound idea but they lost there network connection ,any ideas how they will getto windows updates !
i have had this problem with onbaord nics before but i have a usb -nic hub to get on and got to windows update to get he drivers ,also strange why the pci nic didn't work .something strange going on.
also you don't need to disable it in the bios as it can be disable in the device manager ,i have onboard and a pci device and do it that way

try right clicking on the file and choose "open with" ,choose from the list the program you want to use to open the file

did you go into the bios to set the dvd rom as the first boot device ,or is it a external usb dvd rom device .

use nlite (i think vlite is the vista version?) to slipstream the chipset drivers (sata controller) into a new OS image.

i think you missed the point on that one, poster said he cant get it to boot from the dvd drive !!! there for cant get it to boot to the Vista dvd disk .not a Sata driver problem yet!!!

the battery most likely is not on the board itself , but plugged in via a small white 3 wire plug [like a small fan plug],the laptops i have the bios batters is rapped in yellow/red plastic and are attached to the underside of the palm rest area,or the bottom of the case in the same front area ,or i have seen them in the main battery storage area,but are almost all inside the case but not on the board like a regular computer ,

yes ,but it will have limits, as it will be a recovery cd or sorts .you should be able to use it to run a repair ,but no be able to do a repair install of xp over itself

GA updates current==GA=Graphic Card = is you video card driver the latest that the maker offers on there web site for you video card .

try new cable ,or maybe the ide channel is gone bad on the motherboard ,try take the hard drive ribbon cable plug it into the secondary slot ,usually where the cdrom's are plugged into

A system restore has crossed my mind, but I would much rather attempt to fix the problem before I do that. Mostly because the TCP optimizer did in fact fix a problem I was encountering earlier, and I fixed my Norton problem, so I'd have to undo several fixes to solve my problem with a restore.

you need to fix the explorer problem and not worry about tcp optimizer as you have the explorer problem first! I suggest you do a system restore back to before you had the explorer starting problem ,and if it fixes explorer and you still can't get to ebay and such re-run tcp optimizer again !

yeah,that would work ,then you should be able to get the rest of the drive back as another partition ,with disk manager,or there should be a utility to ready the drive for windows on the hdd manufacturers website ,who makes the drive .

I didn't format the drive with win XP, I got as far as Partitioning, then I had to stop. This is a brand new HDD.

sure you do, its built into the motherboard!!! hopefully you are plugging the hdd into it .did you format the drive with winxp during install.if yes,that most likely you problem, type this into run, "compmgmt.msc "and go to disk manager you should be able to activate the rest of the drive and formate it .

yeah,looks like thats the case .and the rambus ram slots will not take any other type of ram .you have to have /buy RDRAM for it .i have bought some on e-Bay ,and they can be pricey

If I buy a full retail version and I alredy have keys on all these machines can I use that disk to repair/reinstall on all three or do I need separate software for each??? Thank again Andy

you do not need to buy and new software if you have a friend or co-worker who has xp pro dis k,they can make you a copy of theres and you can use that .I do it all the time with customers computers that had oem install and no disk ,but have key on the case .i just use a copy of home or pro that i got from a friend ,as i only had a oem restore version with my own tower .

would be the thing to do if you can ,not sure you will have usb devices in safe mode though ,you'll have to try backup to be sure

I been using spybot for years and its safe to ,and recommended to ,remove all it finds ! don't think you will find one as good as, or as user friendly as SpyBot S& D.just scan and fix selected,so just select all.

What's all this "cd"...if you are at the a: prompt and you want to go to the c drive just type c: and then enter. Maybe I'm missing something here. Either way - you'll enjoy the live file system...pretty cool stuff.

Im sure you know this but will post it anyway ,cd is use to change directory ,used if windows was installed on the drive like," cd c:\win98" then you could run commands in the win98 folder like setup.exe !! so if you were install win98 on a computer you could first copy the win98 folder from the cdrom to the hard drive and run setup from the harddrive instead of the cdrom ,faster data transfer ,and you will never be asked to insert the win98 cd at any time after the install !!

you don't need to change from A:\ to c:\,just type, format c:\

having said that ,you don't need to use it anyway as was said above the ubuntu cd will boot and install and format the drive anyway.

I can't format the drive since windows disk always comes up with error screen no matter what I choose.

if it not seeing the drive then its quite possiable that the drive has died!! I thrown out many that no longer function in this way !try taking it out and slaving it to another computer,to see if you can excess it .

I've just tried running norton disk from boot up and it only scans for 1 second and says it's checking A drive..nightmare

not sure what nortons will do for the drive ,did you get to format the drive ,and then get the errors when you tried to install .
