I searched for previous info on re-installing SiS_Lib.dll. The answers were less than encouraging. As I tried to do as was said to fix the drivers. Everyone wants money to do that.
Is there not some way I can do it without paying. In plain english please.
Thanks
The plainest English i can speak,it will cost you nothing to reinstall the video drivers on you computer, you need to know the manufacture of the video card[if you have onboard video then to the motherboard manufacture] in you computer and go to there web site for free download of the drivers ,simple.
It does indeed. But the Crucial System Scanner detects my installed SDRAM and still suggests me DDRs to upgrade, and states nothing about not mixing types... So I'm still confused! Who should I listen to??
Kingston+caperjack VS. Crucial (?)
Sorry. I need consensus!
ok,lets put it this was sdram is old school ,and ddr pc2700 is old school now too,,but is newer than sdram ,so remove you sdram and install some ddr ram for better and faster ram!don't know how else to put it to you!!
time to bu a new harddrive!! 4 Gig
Thanks for your input, caperjack!
So, in spite of Kingston's warning about not mixing the two types of memory on my mobo, you see no problem in doing so, then? Or am I missing something…?
I know DDR is faster, and I considered getting two 512 DDRs, but for the use I'm giving this box... I'd rather get just one - as long as it can work no-problem with that 256 SDRAM, that is.
no you can't mix them, one type or the other . as it clearly states in the link in you first post .
Hello i would suggest you get 2 -512 sticks of ddr pc2700 ram .If all you can afford is one than by allmeans just get one ,but get ddr as it is faster than the older sdram.

a retail copy of XP home (full) + SP2 is about $300
WoW ,i can buy from retail store for about $100.00 or less here in Canada .check here ,local store about 20 mile from me and they sell online .
http://www.thewebbeach.com/products.asp?id=60
as for the ebay one i asked seller if it was use and he said yes ,so don't buy from ebay unless it says its new ,I used ebay for the past 3 yrs or so ,made about 108 purchases ,about 5 were bad buys !
I have a crappy milwaukee pc that has only 3 bars of pc100 64 meg ram strips and the computer freezes constantly can I change the ram to some 256 meg sd ram?
with out some more info on computer specs,i willing to guess yes,at least you should be able to 3-128 meg sticks .and they are cheap now on ebay and other places ,less than 20 bucks here for 3 sticks of 128

spyware/trojan that affects IE and not firefox is most likely cause.try a few spyware scans like spybot search and destroy and Adaware ,both can be found at www.filehippo.com
are you trying to uninstall it from add and remove program in the control panel.
from a goole search .
How do I uninstall the trial from my computer if I decide not to convert the software or I choose to purchase another Microsoft Office 2007 product?
It is not necessary to uninstall the trial if you choose not to convert the software. However, if you choose to purchase another Microsoft Office 2007 suite or program then it is recommended to uninstall the trial software prior to loading the software. To uninstall the trial, you should follow these steps:
1. To open Add or Remove Programs, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add or Remove Programs.
2. Click Change or Remove Programs.
3. Scroll down until you find Microsoft Office 2007. Please note that there may be nothing in the Change or Remove Programs dialog box that indicates that the program is a trial.
4. Click Microsoft Office 2007 and then click Remove, the program will then run through the uninstall process.
==========
if that doesn't work then make sure you have windows installer ,installed on you computer ,it will be in add and remove programs also ,if not there make sure you have all the latest windows updates to get the installer .
I don't want to format the drive - it's already formatted. I want to know what the format is. I can search the drive by sector number, but I can't possibly look at all 700million + sectors to find directories. I believe there is at least one directory entry with bad data, but I don't know where to look.
over and over i read this and have to say i've never heard this ? before ,as to the format of NTFS ,to my knowledge its NTFS, NT file System, dose this hdd run,is it on a working computer .
chkdsk info ..
CHKDSK
chkdsk drive /p /r
The chkdsk command checks the specified drive and repairs or recovers the drive if the drive requires it.The command also marks any bad sectors and it recovers readable information.
You can use the following options:
/p : Does an exhaustive check of the drive and corrects any errors.
/r : Locates bad sectors and recovers readable information.
Note If you specify the /r option, the /p option is implied. When you specify the chkdsk command without arguments, the command checks the current drive with no options in effect.
When you run the chkdsk command, you are required to use the Autochk.exe file. CHKDSK automatically locates this file in the startup folder. If the Command Console was preinstalled, the startup folder is typically the Cmdcons folder. If CHKDSK cannot find Autochk.exe in the startup …
Daughter's been off to college, and trying to use her old Thinkpad R31, but it asks for her user name and password, and she can't remember it.
Any way to work around this?
is that a windows password/username or the Bios password ,can you get to the windows login screen,if yes ,then boot computer while hitting the f8 key to go to safe mode ,choose administrator acct, and go to users in the control panel and remove password from you daughters user account .
the bios default on this board is IDE,so if you aren't disabling the bios write protect jumpers you are not making any changes to the bios when you do get in
there is a safety jumper on the board that needs to be set to disable so you an edit the bios .you will see it in the manual that you can download fro asus .
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=CROSSHAIR
Also, I've checked its not the new ram I bought, I tried it by itself, with the old ram and also the old ram by itself... no difference. In fact, I doubt at this point if there'd be any difference if I tried with no ram.
Ok,so you have new ddr2 ram ,and old ddr2 ram and you tried all together ,just checking here ,you do know that the green ram slots are for ddr3 ram ,and that you cant run ddr2 and ddr3 rame together .
when you install 2 ddr2 ram chips do you put 1 in each of the yellow slots ,as this is,i think so anyway , the proper way to install 2 sticks of ddr2 ram ,of course if you have 4 sticks of ddr2 ram you would install them in both the red and yellow slots .
!!!My2 Cents as that may be all its worth !!!
Ok i sent the computer to the local repair shop and they said it was my PSU, so i bought a new Corsair 620watt PSU and when i plugged it in sparks started flying from unter a heatsink on my MOBO...
so did they install it for you or did you install it your self.!!!
also motherboard should have washer type protection built in ,notice the silver or brass colored rings around the holes on the underside/upper side of the board
don't think it has to do with my graphic cards either because even if they did get damaged, that wouldn't keep my computer from not even starting.
it sure could ,
I have also come to a conclusion that it isn't my RAM because if i power off my system totally and plug it back in and press the power button, it turns on for a split second, then if itry turning it on afterwards, it doesn't make any signs of life, so i think my RAM is telling the computer not to turn on because there is something wrong.
really ,you sure have a different opinion of ram than i do,ram memory has no info in it until computer is up and running ,its wiped clean every time you shut down computer ,so how could it be telling anyone anything .
Also ,its my gut feeling that the pop was you motherboard shorting out . ,just a gut feeling
try safe mode again with mouse plugged into ps/2.
hit f8 on bootup for safe mode
echo! echo
the data ? can't be answered until you remove harddrive and install in second computer as a slave of connect with usb /ide/sata device.
also you could have someone check it out and advice how to continue ,i have seen power hit dialup modems and network card cause this problem ,computer wouldn't boot until i removed affected device
take the sise off of case and look along the lower part of the board and you should see pluin for front usb
Hmm Alright, i'll try it and see how it turns out, thank you
EDIT:
The thing is i cant access windos at all, when i attempt to access safe mode it does the same thing, it goes ok until the part where the XP load windows is supposed to appear then flashes a blue screen and restars...
you must have missed my post ,i have install about 30 new motherboards over the past 5 yrs and have see you problem every time ,i usually just reload windows but on about 10 occasions a install over was wanted by customer so they wouldn't have to reload all there programs .just follow the instruction in my previsions post ,if you have full version of winxp and not a winxp recovery cd..like the one Dell and many other manufacturers use .
actually you could have avoided this if you had uninstall video/harddrive controller drivers and motherboard chipset drivers before removing the drive from old motherboard
its a chipset driver/ide device conflict cause by the new motherboard, being different than you old one ,the fix i use for this is to reinstall winxp over it self .described here
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm
might have them in a box somewhere ,will check tomorrow
i've done it! thank you :)
did it solve the problem!
look for it in the bios under advanced bios features
make sure that the usb keyboard is set in the bios
have you ever use xp with 4 gig of ram before ,i do believe there are issues with xp when you use more than 2gig of ram
You my friend are a "God send" !!!! F 10 worked and now life is good !! I'm very thankful for your wisdom !!!!!! I hope one day I can repay you 100 fold !!!
Great ,glad it worked ,
f10 or f11 may bring up the restore option!
I'm aware of the option. What I was asking is: Do you gain anything by having ccleaner empty out the temp files rather than doing it through IE?
Thanks again for your help.
no,but ccleaner also does window temp folders and much more!
he said "spyware".... defender is a start for knocking out basic spyware.
Yes this is truebut no better than the ones all ready tried.
I would suggest moving as stated above, and would also get trojanhunter and run it .
http://www.misec.net/
get the trojanhunter updates here .
http://www.misec.net/trojanhunter/updating/
hello, not automatically, but you can set ie to empty temp internet file when you close the browser ,go IE ,open tools/internet options /advanced/scroll down to browsing ,and check box to delete temp files when you close ie ,or something like that ,
hello,i don't use AOL ,but did a little search about its tool you are refering to ,and it seems its there remake of McAfee and i never liked McAfee.

oh,ok ,but i have no idea how to fix it !!sorry, maybe someone else will see this and help.
Not sure what command line you mean .i downloaded the extension, grabbed a video from youtube.com,changed the files extension to .flv and converted it to dvd ntsf format with out any problem on my end .
also what format of video files are you converting
are you using the trial version of did you buy the program.
edit:
that was just a thought ,i just downloaded the trial and it converted a avi quite quickly and worked for me
that the key that blows it up!!lol
gig it a try ,it called system restore .
i want to restore my pc to the way it was when i first bought it.
i have a windows xp home edition SP2.
i dont have a windows xp disk is there a way to restore my pc back to the way i got it when it came from the factory
PS i cant restore my system back to that day as i have set my pc to noly keep a few days worth of restoration times
Not with out a winxp cd, you could borrow one from a friend and use it along with you winxp key.
try ccleaner to empty temp internet file folder and cleanup your computer ,and fix registry entries
