Check the side of the card for a physical switch. It will slide up and down. Most often this is in the wrong position if you cannot modify the disk.

Microsoft's partition manager is really robust now of days. You can try using that. Search for "Manage Partitions" and it should show up in the list.

You can try "chkdsk /f" from an administrative command prompt and reboot. You should be able to clear the check disk flag from msconfig. Alternitevally you can boot into the windows recovery console and try manually running the commands there.
