mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

yea I do mainly because
1. I already won the blog thing
2. My podcast sucks and I never do anthing for it

Yea I like the vista theme hopefully someone is working on making a customizable Uslab to look like vista. I went with the Mac OS X icons because well they look good and I have vista icons on my XP and my sister or someone would probably get confused and thing they were in windows.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Ok here is my new desktop setup for Ubuntu 6.06.
Ive got Linista 3 as the GTK/Metacity theme,
Some Mac OS X icons,
XGL/Compiz installed and running,
CGWD vista aero theme,
A application panel up top that is hidden unless rollover,
some terminal changes (transparency, text, text color),
and I also have Uslab (SLED like menu for ubuntu) in the corner, but I couldnt get a pic of it.

So is it finally over?

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

So far I havent heard anything about any upcoming cards from ATI after AMD acquired them and im waiting to see what they can pull together. Although it seems like a cool idea to bring better performance I would hate for Nvidia cards to stop working with AMD's and ATI cards not working with Intels as well as they would vice versa.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Install the latest drivers from Nvidia and maybe increase the refresh rate on the monitor if not already set to the highest. also check color settings for it I dont know too much about hardware, but im just sortof tossing out ideas. The monitor might be set to a low fps or something.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

do you mean system? or are you saying like system terminal which would be the command prompt?

If you want the system you have to goto start>control panel>user accounts>select an account>change my password. or that should be close enough to get you there. For the command prompt im not sure you would have to set some sortof of permission or security policy on it.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

oh yes a deffinite upgrade for gaming performance. I used to have a 5200 card and it does a good job, but for the performance over cost you should deffinitely consider upgrading to a 6800 or better

Nvidia cards for under $50 7 series
Nvidia cards for under $50 6 series

For Nvidia cards I usually stay away from the PNY ones and tend to go with BFG if I can afford it but GIGABYTE, ASUS, and eVGA make good ones too (i dont know about all of them). Im mostly an Nvidia person always hated ATI (Nvidia is deff the choice for Linux users), but I am waiting to see what AMD does with the ATI brand now that they acquired it.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

You would want to get an Intel Core 2 Duo for gaming I would think it is currently the best processor out there.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

This probably isnt the best place to post it. I hate to be a nag about this, but you if you want help it needs to be in a suitable forum with a good title. This might have to do with your operating system or the software you are using it is hard to solve the problem unless we know these things and also what type of cd burner you have. I would title it System Crash when writing cd.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Its a tough choice really. I have an msn account (with around 6,000 unviewed emails), I have around 5 gmail accounts for various things, I use MSN messenger sometimes, and I have 2 aim accounts. For email Gmail is the way to go, I have never used Ghat and dont plan to anytime soon. The spam filters are alright but if your actively telling it what is spam and what is not they do a good job better than hotmail or yahoo. For chat I would have to say Aim because it is the most popular, but I wouldnt use the aim client I would either use GAIM which is opensource or Trillian because it has MSN in it too. I dont know what Napster has to do with these last I knew they sold music.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

yea I know but the more content you add the longer the page is gonna get anyways. So it can never truly be center w/o javascript im assuming or possibly you could use the vertical-align property in css and set it to middle.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Im not sure what your asking. How are you going to display the same image two different ways. Or do you mean you want to position it in the center of the page.
you most likely want to use css for this and absolute position the image.

img.center {
position:absolute;
top:25%; /*change to fit*/
left:45%;/*change for page*/
}
 <!--Then your html should be-->
<img class="center" src="MFTP.jpg" alt="" />

I would recommend not using tables for your webpage as well.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Ok so I was wondering how you would go about registering what I believe is called a Domain type like .com .net. So if I wanted like .foo or .bar for my website how would I go about doing that.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

posted a new blog post probably my most content driven one yet.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

would it really be best to phrase these as expertise "Particular expertise in administration, planning, organizing, problem solving, and scheduling."

maybe say something like business skills or something because can you really be an expert in stuff like planning and problem solving. Im not sure how to phrase it im no expert in resumes either.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Toulinwoek wins hands down. I'm deeply suprised at the voting turnout which in my opinion shows some obvious favoritism.

Good work Toulinwoek, you're the winner in my opinion.

Im not sure how you get this perception neither of us has been 2 or 3 votes ahead so far. As for why people might like my blog is because I am a very active member in the community and my blog gets exposure. Anything to further develop the daniweb community.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

when you do that scan you have to have Internet explorer closed for the results to be accurate.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

thanks I will try it.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

ok well I have a layout where there is one column on the left of the content, a side navigation, the content, and then the footer I also need to have a background expand to the right as the browser window gets bigger. The entire layout has around 450 lines of css so I dont think I should post it.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Hi I need help with some css. I am trying to make the page expand with based on the ammount of content on the page. so the more content the longer the page and so on. If you know how to do this please help.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

My favorite xml, html, and css editor is NOTEPAD.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Slow going with the votes here it is killing me.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Hey Welcome! hope you have a nice experience here.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

you could probably use the em unit for that im not sure if it is possible, but em is a measurement based on the font-size on the screen.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Cool, This site is very interesting and has a lot of stuff you can learn about most aspects of technology. Trying to help people out in the forums is a good way to learn howto do things.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Im sorry to be a nag but could you rephrase your question in regular font and make it into complete sentences with only 1 oe 2 smilies. That is probably the main reason no one has answered your question(im dizzy just looking at it).

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

yea you could try some of the emergency boot disk things out there im not quite sure what to do other than look for viruses and spyware.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I would just like to add that if you are only going to be using these things more casually just to try out or something like that I would try out WAMP server and Xampp which automatically configures apache, mysql, php, and things like phpmyadmin. Wamp only available on windows, and xampp is available on all platforms I belive.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

run ad-aware, spybot S&D, windows defender, and what ever anti-virus program you have then run hijackthis and post the log file. For more information on how to do this go here

Hope I was helpful if you have anymore questions me or someone else will be sure to get back to you here.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Cant you just hit save as and save it as a .html file?

I would just like to point out that the dreamweaver templates are probably not the best thing to use if you want to build a website. They do not meet up to current web standards for the main reason that they use tables instead of divs and css. If you are trying to make a page that can be transfered over and over again divs and css would be the way to do this.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Im guessing you could copy the contents of the cd and add that file and reburn it. Also is the _ in the filename on the cd?

I would also consider the Grub bootloader which can be fixed via live cds
check out my [plug]blog post on it[/plug]

there is also a way to get a bootable version of windows that you could probably copy the files from there on to your windows partition.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

thank you for nominating my blog and I hope that people will vote for it, but the main purpose of this competition was to have people blog on daniweb so everyone should keep up their blogs

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

it doesnt work in firefox.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I find using IE conditional comments better in the long run for css code to work in all browsers rather than css hacks. So I would look into that.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

it seems the same as most linux distros. I think mandriva/mandrake have a gaming distro. Winex and cedega runs games better than just wine but cedega cost money unless you get the cvs and compile it.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Well I will say this is I like my title to be something rather than nearly something.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Ive never seen it with classes like that usually what people would do is use ids for that so like

#test {
/*global stlyes for the elements*/
}

#test .test1 {
/*styles for anything in the test id with a class name of test1*/
}

#test .test1 .test2 {
/*styles for anything inside the test id and class test1 with a class of test2 */
}

now ive never seen anyone do this with all classes ive only seen it used with p, a, ul, li, and other html elements. It is an easy way to transfer styles inside of a single id w/o having to write sperate classes or ids for each one.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

thanks but I checked it out with godaddy and finally saw the place that tells whether or not they have php support and what version.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

also if anyone could tell me where people can vote on the blogs.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

ok so awhile ago I was a "posting guru", now im "Nearly a Posting Virtuoso". whats next? and what are all the member ranks you can go through?

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

true I guess I just looked at the title and added some input, but I have also heard of something called objective c which is a way of using oop in c.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

c is not an object oriented programming language.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I dont think I ever saw this post I just searched my username after I was looking for expandable divs and my blog tutorial came up as the second one. Thanks guys I hope to continue helping people especially now that I have greater knowledge about computers and wat not. And if I dont say so myself my blog is shaping up pretty nicely

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

do you know what these entries are the first one looks kind of odd to be in your WINDOWS folder
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ehTray] C:\WINDOWS\ehome\ehtray.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlwaysReady Power Message APP] ARPWRMSG.EXE

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

try scanning with ad-aware, spybot S&D, windows defender, then run a program called Kazaa Cleaner

If the problem still doesnt go away get HijackThis and post a scan log here.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

yea this is a great forum and it has been expanding for a long time.

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I fixed it with a conditional comment that said if it is not IE to set the border to 1px instead of .5px which for some reason does not display correctly in firefox and netscape

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

oh yea I thought you meant locally run the script but yea that should work

mikeandike22 18 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

alright here is the problem im trying to get a certain menu to have a thin border but in firefox the only way I could do this was to set it to .1em which makes it look chunky in IE so i tried to do some conditional comments to link to an IE styles page but it isnt working here is my code

well I figured your school comp has windows on it and if your running a local script to fetch a file with a certain file extension it will still stop that file from being transfered to the script. Im no expert on this just try it out goto php.net and search some commands.
