i have an old computer that cannot startup properly. it is very strange, i can start up in safe mode then restart normally, but it will freeze if restarted again. the loading windows screen appears then freezes as the bars move across the screen. any help is appreciated.

originally we had 98 installed. reformatted to xp. and the problem continued. we dont know what to try next.
