Hello, I have a Gateway system. I just upgraded the RAM, (about to put in a 10k raptor) and am so happy with the boost, that I want to upgrade my processor.

Right now, I have a Pentium 4 3.0 GHz, and the mobo supports Package: LGA775 with System Bus Support: 800/533 MHz.

On ebay, I found a duo core processor listed as
Intel Pentium D 945 3.4 GHz 800FSB LGA775 4MB Cache

Now, as long as the socket (LGA775) and teh FSB speed are compatible, I'm good to go, right? It doesn't matter that this is a "D" type pentium or anything else?

I want to be sure it's compatible before I spend anything.

Thanks.

EDIT, this is XP SP2, if that matters.

Compatibility is my first concern, and I would like that to be discussed fisst.... BUT What are the chances of me installing this - going from single to dual core, and not having to reinstall XP? According to my searches, it's either a matter of opinion or a crapshoot.
