hello, i have hooked up a second computer in my office and when it prompts me to log in i don't have the password and i can't get a hold of my friend to get it.Is there anyway to bypass to at least get to the desktop???

Try booting up in safe mode. Usually with XP there is an administrator account that does not usually appear on the list. This means that there is rarely a password set for this account. By booting into safe mode this becomes visible and you can create a new account with admin privilages for yourself and also delete the password protected account.
Sorry if that did not make much sense my head is all ver the place today and i can not be bothered rereading what i wrote.
