I was just thinking about how much the webmaster community relies on PayPal. Do you think we'll see some competitive alternatives in the near future? It's driving me crazy how PayPal is getting greedier and greedier with commissions, etc.
Re: I wish I could help you but I really don't know. However, it would probably be more beneficial for both you and the developer do either come up with a fixed price in advance or by the hour. Once the system is developed, it shouldn't be very time consuming at …
Re: Limit yourself to 2 - 3 banner advertisements per page. Always put at least one above-the-fold, meaning viewable upon loading without having to use the scrollbar. Be creative with placements in places that users will focus their eyes automatically, and blend them as much into your layout as possible. Here's …

Re: Regarding the reputation spam ... As if you had to guess, my take on it is that I am very against doing these things. It could have been just as effective to have come to me privately or posted some feedback saying, "Ya know, you can do so-and-so and that …
Re: Sorry, Scribbller, but I will have to disagree. When everyone was complaining that the webmaster forums / computer forums industry was oversaturated, and were all screaming "niche forums!", I decided to take the plunge and do non-niche forums with DaniWeb. I think if done right, you could encompass everything (such …
QuickBooks or PeachTree - which would be best for managing an Internet business such as DaniWeb?
Re: There's really no "do this and then this and then traffic will pour in". More than anything else, it takes a lot of work, drive, motivation, and determination. For a social networking site, check out our Building a Community forum for some ideas. Read around.
Re: New questions should always be in the format of new threads. It is against our rules to post your question twice as well as posting a new question as a reply to an existing thread. A moderator will most likely delete duplicate threads or move your post if you posted …

Hi, Due to conversations that have been going on in the Area 51 forum for quite some time, as well as in our IRC channel, I have decided to make reputation no longer count within the Coffee House category. To quote Davey in Area 51, "reputation is meant to be …
The number of pageviews to my site has been constant for quite some time. (Or rather, steadily increasing day by day). For some reason, the number of pageviews to my site doubled today! According to my referral stats, the same number of people come in through other sites as always. …
Re: I, yes I, just got an iPhone and I'm very happy with it. I migrated to AT&T / iPhone just yesterday from Verizon Wireless and a Treo 700W (Windows Mobile smartphone). I am a little pissed that I can't synch my contacts or email because the iPhone isn't compatible with …
Re: Computer engineering doesn't really deal much with computer hardware (i.e. motherboards, processors, etc.). It is more of a cross between electrical engineering and computer science. Be prepared for a lot of discrete math and digital circuitry. If you're an electronics freak, go for it :)
Re: I've fixed this bug. Thank you for pointing it out! :)
Re: Check out MagpieRSS. It makes it *very* simple to incorporate RSS feeds into a PHP-driven site.
Re: I hate to be so blunt ... however, I've found that Opera consistantly does not follow XHTML/CSS standards and a very small percentage of the DaniWeb audience uses that browser. Additionally, I am not a fan of Opera at all, having used it a few years back, and therefore don't …
I used to send plain text emails to members, and they were a big hit. I just started sending HTML emails out, but I found that many of them got caught in junk mail filters. Are there any particular things to look out for when writing HTML emails to not …

Does googlebot spider IFRAME tags? Do they actually follow the URL as if it were a link? Or do they spider the contents of the IFRAME as if it were part of the included page? Unlike JavaScript, there is no client-side parsing that needs to be done with IFRAMEs. Just …

Re: I am not an EE user but I was under the impression that the "experts" don't get paid. Instead, from what I understand, someone asks a question. Then, multiple people respond to the question. The person who asked the question then chooses which reply was the most helpful to them, …
Re: Hmm, computer science is a lot more than programming. There is a lot of math and theory behind it. The main differences between computer science and computer engineering are that comp. engineering also includes more digital circuitry and electrical engineering than comp. sci. does.

Re: I use Zend PHP Studio. If you buy the full version, it's a PHP-based IDE with built-in server: there are Windows and Mac versions. Of course I use it because I develop in PHP nearly fulltime, but you might not want the expense if you're just playing around.

Re: My SEO hack ... Create a Google sitemap (On DaniWeb, I've written my own sitemap script, but I believe that there's a plugin version on vbulletin.org) ... Other than that, vBulletin is pretty seo-friendly out of the box. |
