What is the problem? Usually BIOSes are updated to let the motherboard be compatable with more things or add more functions to the BIOS. Generally, if the hardware is PlugNPlay, then all you need is a driver for it. Of course, BIOS upgrades may help the computer run more efficiently …

Everybody's a newbie at some time, and most who aren't computer geeks will stay computer illiterate. First, as a side note, Dells aren't great. They can have some odd little bugs that screw things up. If you are looking to play games, Dells are horrible. For everyday wordprocessing and whatnot, …
I have tried restarting my computer but that didn't help
Anyway, run system restore from inside XP. If you can remember what day the problem started happening, restore to a point behind that. Make sure to install any updates or drivers that may have been "restored" over. Also, am I …

I just read in another forum that if you have bad RAM then you'll get the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH I love that name. Speaking of the BSOD, who began that term? I remember when I was just a little nerd that my mom and aunt would call it that. …

Re: Help

If you have WinXP, just revert to a previous setting. If you have Win2k, you might be able to repair it with boot disks or something, but if it doesn't repair automatically then we'd have to get a little more in depth to the procedure.

Ok, so you've seen a rash of posts from me in the last few hours. Now it's my turn to beg for help. 1st topic: My computer freezes at random times. Each time may have something in common though. So far it happens while I'm using the internet to some …

If you go into the repair console if using an XP installation disk, log into your active partition first. If you havn't set an administrative password, then the password is blank. Either "c:\WINDOWS>" or "c:\WINNT>" should come up (if the installation drive is the C: drive). Type "help" into the …

Well DID you try googling it? I posted in another thread that I read in ANOTHER thread that RAM problems usually give BSOD errors. Have you checked your RAM thoroughly?

I just had this problem over the last two days. I fixed it, but my computer is still a little shakey and I may post a thread requesting help in stabilizing it. Anyway, did you have a HDD with XP on it before you upgraded? Did you transfer it from …

How long have you been using that installation of XP? A reinstallation can correct alot of registry, driver, and other miscellaneous problems. What is your reason for resisting? I can only think of losing time, losing small customizations, and having to reactivate the cd-key if necessary. You can transfer 'my …

Additional info needed: 1. Are you installing to C:? 2. Are you installing from boot or from inside an OS? 3. Is your CD-R set as your first boot device? If so, try disabling it, or taking out the setup cd before it checks for a CD to boot from. …

Hmm... that's odd... I've always hated Apple and their damn Quicktime format. It invades your computer with IPod sh**. Anyway, generally quicktime only plays if the video is in quicktime format. I think the problem may lie in WMP. Open up WMP and go to Tools>Options. Hit 'file types' and …

Sounds like either your motherboard or CPU fried. If the screen was broken, Windows would still boot. If windows was broken, you would still get an error message on the screen. Are you sure there is HDD activity? I'm not sure, but I don't think HDD activity would happen if …

I'm trying to decypher your alien language. What is alssog? Do you mean the plug that you connect to your electricity circuits? How do you 'convert' a 3 prong plug? Did you actually buy an accessory to do so, or did you just cut off the 3rd prong? You mean …

Do you mean you cannot access your email from hotmail.com? If that's the case, I'm not sure what to tell you. While I'm not sure about Outlook Express because I don't use it (as a side note, Outlook Express is known for having some oddities and security flaws.). If you …

Does your computer display anything, or does it just display a black screen? Does the light come on? Is the CPU fan spinning? I recently had to replace my motherboard after it shorted out. The screen did not display anything but the computer looked like it was running normally (The …

After that, if you don't know how, create a new user account by going to control panel. Open up 'User Accounts', and create an account for yourself with administrative properties.

If you installed over 2000 (and it works), then it should not show up as a bootable OS unless you install it again. It's a glitch. To fix it, go to C:, and open 'boot.ini'. Attention: It would be wise to back up boot.ini. If you make a mistake or …

Ehe, a bit of a newbie question (if it's what I think it is). Don't worry, unless you know what thumb means then it's an easy mistake. WIndows XP has a system where it generates small preview pictures for larger pictures. These small previews are called thumbnails. XP comes with …
