Also, putting signature links in other forums, creating a community on social networking sites and letting the members know about your sites could help you to get visitors.
hmm Google is still updating the PR of sites. Two days before my friend was having PR0 and suddenly today he got PR2 for this blog. Completely agree with ChiefLee, PR doesn't mean anything to me either. One should concentrate more on traffic and SERP as they will benefit your site's conversion and sales.
The search engines will spider your site on their own; there is no reason for you to submit the site on the search engines. At least, many people do not do that.

RSS directories are same like web directories. In RSS directories there are categories and you just need to find the exact category and submit your RSS feed URL. In some directories only .xml type feed url are excepted. In some directories you will need to register and upon verification you are able to add your RSS feed. Basically, RSS feeds are placed on those sites who struggles for unique content.
completely agree with bob and cscgal, PR are meaningless, but they have much value for advertisers. Basically, bob is right, PR are done to find out the sites selling links. I have noticed after every update that many sites gets impact due to selling links. Selling links can hurt your site page rank on google.
ok, agree with all, Traffic is the key to success without it you can't make money or cannot increase your sales, etc... But, could anyone tell some effective methods to drive massive traffic to a website. I have heard about the Squidoo lens. It is free to create pages, you can also publish the pages but to get featured by the site you need to get the premium membership. Still your created pages will get indexed by google and you will get traffic via it. I have just started to create squidoo lens. I will let you guys know my results soon.

Google trusts old friends and recommends them when the user fires in the query. The older the domain it gains credibility in Search Engines. Offcourse the content also matters but to get older websites in ranking is much easier than to get the new ones.
I don't think that older sites can only get good rankings, if your site has keyword rich content if will show more effective results in SERP and could rank better than old websites.
