roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

fair enough... its just that for me when you miss click something and the whole lot closes it just gets really ennoying. I also like to look at stuff on a dark background.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I would definately call myself a designer but I can fluently write html and css. My main thing is graphics but in a couple of years i intend to learn php or ASP.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I congratulate you on your efforts. Do you know how long it had been up their?

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

You could also try www.sxc.hu which is exactly what you are looking for.

If you want to find similar services then rather than typing into google the possible picture titles what you want are "stockphotos".

I hope that gives you better images because google images doesn't tend to give you very high res images.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

eatable -> food

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Congratulations! Shame you didn't win but hey, bring on next year ;)

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

yeh I don't think it would make much of a difference. Would you care to link us so we can tell you what we think of it?

TBH i'd rather see three hi-res images than a relatively small 360 view.

give us a link please

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Cpanel is pretty good.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I've never actually used them, but I have to agree that they aren't useless features and most of the time they arent blotted but I still stand by the decision that they are often much harder to used than their paid for friends. ;)

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

It is awesome how it is done but it seems to me that it would create alot of extra code. Does anyone know anymore about CSS3?

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I knew someone would say that and yes you are also (of course) right and I just think that it is a real shame for GIMP that it is hard for new users to use. Someone needs to sort it out befoe it just gets to hard to use.

What are your views of the parent window imathwee?

{I've been very busy recently but I am back! and hopefully to stay ;) }

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

You say they can delete them but if they have forgotten their password etc... it becomes more and more difficult.

If i were to forget my password now and then for some reason i didn't want anyone to know anything about me then I would want my account deleted because I have a lot of info about me in my profile here. Not that it will ever be that way for me... but it might for some. But then again your method does make sense because like Ancient Dragon said it would be an admin nightmare.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

thats really intersting and i would never have thougt of that. surely if you didn't want your word to be shouted at the user you could just use a span and style it so that it has a bold font weight.

but thanks for that. very interesting. ;)

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

In my opinion the web needs an image format that can be animated to an extent because it is as MattEvans said easier to implement and I what i was trying to say before was that Flash is just going to get more and more complex which is just going to make the file sizes bigger and bigger.

I think we just need a simple frame by frame animated image format for now... personally I think gif does the job pretty well. And as i said before PNG is no replacement.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Flash will never be the answer to replace gifs in the animated sense. It is just moving further and further away from it.

PNGs on the other hand are really good but IE6 is still a huge part of the web user population.

Gif is gonna be here to stay for the next year or 2. Probably until IE8 ;) .

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I agree I think 40+ members is good for the first month... just make sure you keep your forums nice and active.

btw... your site is down... i hope you havent given up.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Thats makes sense but maybe you should make a system where you do delete all their information apart from their username. If people don't want their information displayed on your site it should be your responsibility to remove it.

Out of interested how often do you get these requests?

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I quite like IPB... it looks seem to look better than alot of vb skins. apart from this one.... obviously ;)

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

hmmm... Yeh i do agree but I think its more that the features are just displayed in a complete none intuitive way.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

maybe we should make a daniweb mod of it so it has that blasted parent window!

Any programmers up for it?

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

What do you mean by adding labels? I'm not quite sure what you mean. A link to your site might also be helpful.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

One thing to point out is to get the best effect make sure that you don't stretch or distort the background image in flash... do it in photoshop or something similar. Make it the same size as the flash file you are using it with.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

A long time indeed but I'm glad to be back ;) Yeh I didnt actually use paint.NET but last time I used link as you can probably tell it really annoyed me because everything is so hard!

Plus i used to do a lot in PSP so I would have though i'd be used to the interface of that by the looks of it.

GIMP is open source though isnt it?

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

where you see the id #tabs in the style sheet just set a width there is pixels that works for you.

Then put

margin: auto;

That will make it look a bit better. because I wouldnt change the width of the grey bit because it lines up with the bottom grey piece.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I forgot i had used this before but this is it:

put the following in your <head>

<!--[if IE]>
<script type="text/javascript"  src="fix_eolas.js"  defer="defer"></script>
<![endif]-->

Then download the attached js file.

Hope that helps

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Really good point. I never though of that. But thats not a problem in IE6 is. ;)

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

point taken jbennet. I have finally got cs3 and it is pretty good. The interface has been cleaned up a bit. And some good new features have been added but I havent had much time to play yet :(

Paint.net looks pretty impressive for freeware.
Looks better than GIMP atleast ;)

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I'm pretty sure that doesn't make a difference. However, there are quite a few pieces of javascript that fix this problem. just google it.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

It would be so much easier to help you if you gave us a link. Also, I dont think you can set a height with a percentage.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

The simple answer is just to forget about it. As far as I can tell it isn't going to change the user's experience of your site that much anyway.

There isn't really any point of them anyway.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Isn't it just a good idea just to use them to style differently. So you could set a different font-weight for bold and strong?

That's what I would do but I have never actually noticed this problem before. ;)

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I'm glad I could help.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I have never done any web design on a mac but can't you just stick:

<style type="text/css">
body {
background-image: url(image/image.jpg);
}
</style>

just an idea. but obviously it is css.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I think I understand now. Basically you need to just set a class for all the links you want to display in the alternate color.

like cerberus said above. If you need anymore help just post back.

btw. if they are all in the same area there is a different way of doing it. please let me know if they are.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I don't use it but it may be useful for you to get your website going on a free service before you invest in server space. It can be quite costly for a decent spec. Let us knowhow you get on

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I've never ever managed to get favicons to display in IE... stymiee you mention its buggy in IE6> but what about IE7? does it work in that?

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I think you need to put a space before the image if you wish to do this. another way of doing it is :

<div style="width: 640px; height: 78px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img src="http://<mysite>/images/<image>"/></div>

hope that helps.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

You have obviously used dreamweaver to create alot of your code but have you tried:

.box {
height: 300px;
width: 200px;
overflow: hidden;
}

or even:

.box {
height: 300px;
width: 200px;
overflow: auto;
}

That will make any content that is to large for the box hide and so you shouldn't get any expanding boxes.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

you need to look at your style sheet and see what it says for the a:link element and then set that to the color you want.

If that doesnt help please could you repost your problem because I really dont properly understand it.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

It is probably because you haven't closed a div. That is what it is normally down to. I would suggest that you have a hard look through your page and validate it to make sure nothing is closed in the wrong place and that everything is closed.

hope that helps

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I help run a forum that uses mybb but it just doesn't seem as nice as vb or ipb... All the styling is also done in xml which is a bit of a nightmare.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

If you look in the css you may find that there is a width set for this grey bar. You just need to change that so it fits round that buttons you have left. It will probably look like this:

#greyBack {width: xxxPX; background-color: #c0c0c0;}

you simply change the numbers that my lowercase x's represent.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

If you are refering to jbennet's example site. That (i think) is just normal html text. So the button is actually set as a background image with text over the top of it. This effects the load time of the page significantly.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I am going to get CS3 in the next week so I'll let everyone know what i think of it.

I needed to do a quick graphics job the other day and I didnt have photoshop on the computer I was working so i downloading GIMP to give it another chance....... And yet again it drove me insane!

I just don't get why they don't have a parent window!

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Google custom search works really quite well for me. It's worth having a go with it. I wouldn't get into making one your self because lets face it, it's never going to be as good as google!

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Like Kaung said earlier on the best way of practising css is through trial and error. And like most computer related things there are tones of tutorials online. i think you will get a much bigger sense of self accomplishment if you do it yourself rather than use templates.

If you have a spare few hours one night you might find it useful trying csszengarden.com, you will be amazed about how much you will learn by just doing that simple task.

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

:icon_redface: Really sorry to put your through that. I actually dont thank you for it and I am sure other will find it useful.

I have done the redirect in php.

All I wanted to know was how to just simply count from 6 down to 1 in javascript. It really is probably a 2 line code.

Thanks for your help

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I wanted you to learn something from this tutorial not just download the files.. sorry ;)

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I have looked high and low for a very simple script that i can use to display on a page from 6 down to 1.

Basically it should start like this:

"this page will redirect in 6 seconds"

and end like this:

"this page will redirect in 0 seconds"

I know exactly the type of people on this forum and how clever you are so if you could please just help me out, I will be really really grateful.

Thanks

roryt 150 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

I would have thought gmail will get rid of the invites pretty soon or make them do something different.

We should start a daniweb pressure group to try and make google give the original gmail users something better. That would be cool
