I'm a male. Just like to set my avatar/pic with female moe character...
Although I'm a bit late, please try this if you want to remove it completely (not 100% sure if this works though)
Download Mywebsearch (find a good site to download it) and purposely install it on your computer. Once done, uninstall it back...

Actually you can disable pagefile.sys in Windows XP.
Pagefile.sys is actually a virtual RAM which if RAM are insufficient for programs to run, they'll used virtual RAM within hard drive disk space (pagefile.sys) but it'll process much slower in virtual RAM rather than actual RAM itself.
If you have at least 512MB of RAM and you don't run much program, music or video, then pagefile.sys can be removed although it was not recommended.
Follow this instruction to remove pagefile.sys
- Right-click 'My Computer' and select 'Properties'
- Click on 'Advance' tab and click 'Settings' under 'Performance' box
- Under 'Performance Option' window, click 'Advance' tab. There should be a 'Change' button under 'Virtual Memory' along with total value of pagefile.sys. Click the change button.
- Under 'Virtual Memory' window, there should be an option 'No paging file'. Select it and click on 'Set' button.
- Exit all open windows with 'OK' and restart windows.
After this, there will be no pagefile.sys existed in your system but you'll see a slight decrease in computer performance due to stress put on RAM only.
Hope this helps... ^^
When you try to open Synergy, what kind of error does it show up (if any)?
I think Synergy will not work with Ubuntu anyway (looked at their homepage and got no linux name to appear). It most probably software/driver conflict in Windows 7 itself that render the software not responding
@jholland
I know... just reminding the poster if he doesn't see the link given my crunchie...
btw, are you a student? sorry asking back...

I think you may want to reformat it again in that way you can install it.
I don't want to be rude but...
The poster seems to forgot where she put the product key and ask if extracting the product key from the windows she's using is possible or not...
She can only reformat after she got the legit key to activate the windows later.
Before... yes. Now got a job...

@Jingda didn't notice that in the last post... sorry
I thought IE9 is not supported in XP anymore and can only works in Vista or later (maybe I'm just wrong) since I still use IE8 due to unsupported IE9 in XP
http://download.cnet.com/Internet-Explorer/3000-2356_4-10497433.html
maybe you just have a corrupted windows. any IE version is bind with windows so some error in windows might trigger the problem.
Open run command in start menu and enter 'cmd' and click enter. Type this line below
chkdsk c: /f /x /r
it'll prompt you to do it on next restart. Type 'y' and press enter. Exit all programs and restart. After boot and loading screen, it should come up with blue background saying it'll check your disk. Let it run and it'll restart by itself when it's done

Did you try to open another website within IE8? If other website can still be open, that means your IE has a problem.
If the above suggestion pass or fail, try to use IE (without add-on) in Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools. If you can open the website you want to open, that means an add-on is conflicting with your IE
Hi and welcome to DaniWeb
It looks like you have trouble with internet connection which sometimes you get low and high speed altogether...
If you can get high-speed connection, then there's no problem with your router, it was probably your ISP giving random connection to your router.
When your router are in high-speed internet connection, how long does it last? If it's high in the beginning and started to slow later, it's normal (for me at least)
You probably have virus in your computer... Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and run a scan to confirm it...
If it does found it, please proceed to instruction link posted by crunchie to completely remove them... He'll help you out till you done
MBAm is good and will remove most malware, just like what the above experts posters have said:)
You can do a malware scan using MBAm 2 times to make sure all malware is being clean up or removed. Malware remover tool will not conflict with Anti Virus. You might want to try out Spyware Blaster too.
Spyware Blaster should be installed after all malware/virus is removed from the system. Also, spyware blaster isn't for scanning for malware, it just prevent fraud websites and malware from entering the system. I also use one and updated every two weeks or so, good to say it protect my computer well enough for 6 month now...
Hi,

in that case let me be the first to tell you about it ,for the poster its a student program microsoft has,and it legit .
myself i have a msdn and tecnet acct ,where i can download all Microsoft OS's right back to 3.11, except for win95.98/me,in iso file format ,with working key ,for evaluation , .and ny company can purchase and 1 yr acct from these to sites ,to evaluate the new windows software ,so there it department can evaluate it before they decide to switch .
I can't quite get it but from what I can find in your post, it was a student package of windows and supposely it was legit and also included in the iso downloaded from legit site...
Am I wrong?

do we need to brought old thread back alive?? just curious...
also, i also never heard of this spms. what does it do?
Obviously yes if you think I'm a superhero
Can you really believe AI will conquer the world someday?

It probably somewhere in your mailbox (email) because most software (microsoft maybe) send all key by email. I'm not sure if it also included in the iso files downloaded from the net. If you bought the software, you must have receive a key in your mail...
btw, most key in iso were probably a crack. never heard microsoft actually give download link for software with original key attach to it...
Maybe you just need a complete firefox reinstallation (uninstall and reinstall)
Just in case, copy all files under C:/Program Files/Mozilla Firefox/ and paste it somewhere else. Then uninstall Firefox using normal uninstall or Revo. Make sure firefox program is completely uninstall... Then reboot...
Then download firefox 5 (latest one) and install it. After install, don't try to open firefox just yet, reboot once and then try to open firefox...
See whether this helps...
Probably it installed to your computer without your knowing, just like rouge anti-virus like to do... Like Jakob said, without a proper uninstall program in add/remove list, it most probably a malware...
It may just installed on your browser only like IE and Firefox. Check their add-ons if both have the program installed on each browser if you want to confirm things up...
Might as well to try this other method if you have another laptop/desktop in your care...
Try to install printer driver for the printer on another computer and check if it works. Sometimes it may just you had a bad printer and need to replace it...
Try first before going on the next method...
Try to create another account (another user set with admin) and try to log in to the newly created user account.
If it slow down as admin account does, perhaps you might need chkdsk your windows directory...
Did you try to use other printers before? If yes, did it work fine?
I just want to clarify that it's not windows problem. I once handle this case and I've to reformat windows for him before the printer work as it should be...
Lets hope it's not going to be a reformat unless you want to do it anyway...
you can used as many anti-malware you want to use but you only have to use one anti-virus for each pc to avoid conflict. Also, avoid using real-time anti-malware scan like SD Spybot as sometimes will may conflict with either anti-malware and anti-virus...
If malwarebytes marks them as a thread, might be better to remove them... ^^
The best option is to backup your email list, inbox and whatever you had in Windows Mail... Once you do, upgrade your vista to seven and check whether it still there and run normally. If it doesn't, just restore all the things you just backed up...
Consider this a self test method. Try first and learn. It won't hurt if you have backed up all necessary files.
That's weird... I thought it was a laptop since it has acer brand (usually laptop) but if it's desktop, there may be some hope...
Open your desktop casing and search for the PCI audio card (you can determine which one by looking at the back of your desktop and check where you plugged in your speaker cable), not an integrated one. If you see one, try to remove it. You may need to unscrew it first before you can remove it.
After removing it, try to plug your speaker cable to integrated one (attached in your motherboard port) and boot your pc.
If it doesn't work, you may need to install the correct driver this time. If it still won't work, then the integrated sound port is already unusable and you need an audio pci card replacement...
p/s: A pci card that he may sent to you might work so it's your choice whether to test my solution or go with the card he'd sent to you. If it comes with a disc, then you don't have to worry about searching for the driver, it'll work fine.
Give it a try first and let us know the progress...
You could try it with using IE9 with no-addon and try again.
Start - All programs - Accessories - system tools - IE9 (no-addon)
maybe some toolbar / addon could be messing your browser and block file transfer to hosting sites.
Maybe you got an infection.
Scan your computer with your anti-virus, if av is unavailable,
Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and install it to your pc. Then if possible just run a quick scan only to save time. (normally you have to do full scan to make sure everything is clean afterwards) and attach the log files here.
Yes, it does this, so there must be something wrong with it.
I contacted the seller and he said at home he has a Card that i install into a pci slot, and comes with a disk that will add 5.1 surround sound.
Does that sound ligit?
Sorry, I can't understand that. Can you explain in a bit more detail?
If the seller got the driver for the c-media, might as well ask him to deliver those driver to you or upload it somewhere and give you the link for the driver. Maybe that would work...
When it comes to notebook hardware, I'm still newb so I can't help you much... sorry.
Since you have already made the purchase, I can only say good luck at this point, hoping that your new graphic card works.
And post the results here as well. We want to know if it succeeded or not.
Owh, it worked... I can enable the shield back without messing up MMO battle. Well, it's slower rather than get more smoother with disable that shield but I don't mind. At least I don't have to open and close Avast and just straight playing to it...
Thanks again for helping... You guys really help me out and solve my issue.
And no issue with Avast conflicting with comodo either, it actually help me more. I'm just use it's plain firewall but eat up very low memory without bogging down other program but still protecting my computer from malicious threat...
I just checked the Behavior shield setting and yes, it have an exception list which lets certain process to run without doing any behavior scan (I also used Avast in my office so I can check the setting...)
the MMO process was cosmic.exe and the execute program is cosmicbreakEN.exe but just in case i'll put them both into trusted process list. If it's not working, I'll just have to disable it when I play MMO and enable it again afterwards. I don't see any problem with little quick setting. I've got used to it when playing other MMO also...
PcTestCard.com, I've no problem with graphic card or whatsoever. I just had problem with Avast for making MMO game slow.
I just had to disable one shield but trying Gerbil's solution if I can still use that shield while playing MMO.
But thanks for replying anyway, cheers!
ignore my last post... I didn't notice this page already expanded.
Try to uninstall the c-media driver and reboot. After reboot, if it come up with 'add new hardware' just cancel it and install realtek driver. If it still showing C-media, then something is wrong with your pc...
Hrmm... never thought of that. I might try it too and see if it can work if I add an exception for the MMO to run. Unfortunately, I can only done this in next 12 hours or so since I'm working right now and kinda away from my laptop...
Will post here if it's succeed or fail... Thanks gerbil...
I've tested out all shield included in Avast! (8 in total) and I found out the Behavior Shield that causes the problem. I had also other shield to be enable and confirmed it was BS that causing the problem...
If it's not shield for normal av, I don't mind much about it. I'll just have to disable it in order for me to play without any problem and let other shield run as normal.
Well, I had to switch zonealarm sooner or later since it won't work sometimes, leaving my firewall off till i logoff or shutdown my computer.
I've used Avast gaming option which silent the notification and/or alarm but it won't solve the problem...
I've just looked around the net for now and found out i need to deactivate one of the shield to play any MMO smoothly... Hopefully it'll correct the problem but I can't test it yet since I'm away from my laptop right now.
asking again...
Try inserting a burned dvd inside and check whether it can still detect it or not. If not, better consider replacing your dvd drive although this should be the last choice...
Well not yet. I just switched to Comodo and use it's firewall only... It was good and doesn't have conflict with Avast for now. I want to give it a try for at least a month and if it's good, might using it for a couple more months... ^^
Well that's what happen to me is I have to disable Avast in order to play MMO smoothly but I'm afraid if I do that too often, my computer might get infected during that time. Free firewall isn't going to block all of them but at least keep me safe somehow...
I wanted to use built-in windows firewall but I found too many loophole in it and decide to use third-party software.
Maybe I should switch AV again... Thought about using MSE next but I want to hear others opinion about this aside from Avast and Avira.
