Hey star wars fans! Consider this a post dedicated to discussing this obessession. What got you into star wars? Do you remember the first time to saw anything related to SW (the movie, comics, book, artwork)?

honestly three just won't cut it but...

1) video games
2) art (comics, photography)
3) movies

...but seriously computers is #1

make sure you have all the latest chipset and most importantly VIDEO CARD drivers installed and up to date. also, check that you video card's fan is spinning at all times and spinning faster when running 3D games.

those are the general points of advice but i must also point out that in your case you have a very UNDERpowered video card for these games. try running them at the lowest game resolution, with all of the extra features (like v-sync, AA, etc) turned off. if that doesn't cut it get a real gaming card.

i assume you power-cycled your router, broadband modem and PC?

it sounds like something to do with your broadband modem or the WAN port on your router. check the settings and also make sure neither is getting to hot. i have found that excessive can make network equipment do some funky unexplainable things.

ah my friend, that's because PC titles have been slowly moving to digital distribution over the past few years. that is, most PC gamers download their games and/or have steam accounts that allow them to take the games theit paid for to any PC.

downloading and sharing torrents is completely legal, in fact some companies use it to distribute theit drivers, updates and even software once purchased legally. the only time that the use of torrents is not legal is when distributing software, movies and other content illegally (without license or permission), but that is the case with anything including FTP, direct download, emailing, disk to disk copying and so on.

sorry guys, i have to disagree here...

1) there are far more game titles for PC than i bet all consoles combined.
2) it is quite possible to build or purchase a PC that can handle moderate gaming for relatively cheap, plus it can be used for plenty more than just gaming (watch movies, email, web, docs, pics, posting on daniweb, and on and on and on).
3) that said, i have an xbox as well and if you were going to go with a console i'd recommend that over the wii or PS3 but although i'll admit i use my xbox for a quick fix when i have an itch to game, the best games i play and the most time spent gaming for me has always been on a PC and still is.
4) i view a console as a good ad-on to a PC driven ecosystem at home. i have a PC that i use for gaming but also as a DVR, using media center to record shows, pull-in internet TV, manage all my pics and songs and movies... i use my xbox (more often then gaming) as a "media center extender" to allow me access to all this content in the room that i dont have my PC in (my bedroom).

btw, PCSAWICK829, nice recommendation. CCleaner is great to use and i recommend it on most PCs running Windows, though it's not really a reg cleaner

open the rig back up...

1) remove and then re-seat each memory stick.

2) be sure the CPU fan/heatsink are properly installed and there is a good seal there. If not, re-apply thermal paste and re-install the CPU fan.

3) remove and then re-seat the video card and any other expansion cards you may have.

4) start in safe mode and remove any applications from startup. also go into the /software/microsoft/windows/current version/run areas in the registry and remove any entires that do not need to start with windows.

5) try and reboot now.

6) be sure to update your drivers, especially chipset and video card.

you are right but in order for the technology to take leaps there has to be some adoption and use. they need to both learn from real use and profit from the tech in order to improve it and make it more efficient.

when activation doesn't work automatically (need internet access) you have to get an activation code from microsoft by telephone. your best (only) option now is to call them, this should take about 2-5 minutes and you're all set.

I was wondering about the new Intel parallel studio, can anyone share their personal experience with it? Likes, dislikes, cool projects, etc? Our own Jeff Cogswell reviewed it here, but i want to here from a few others...
