almostbob brings up a great point on why you should know css. try not to focus on wysiwyg, it tends to go against you on things such as browser compatibility. for example, your site looks perfect on Google Chrome but it looks like a mess on safari and likes defective on explorer.

@almostbob, hmmmm, i seemed to have missed that announcement.

This function takes a string and an output buffer and a desired width. It then copies the string to the buffer, inserting a new line character when a certain line length is reached. If the end of the line is in the middle of a word, it will backtrack along the string until white space is found.

To be a great web designer, you should have a background in web development too. It would be disappointing of someone to refuse a job paying a few thousand dollars for 1 - 2 days of work just because they don't know CSS.

I would say stick to your current job and practice your web design/development skills, try your best to ignore people's "advise" (your colleagues) because they normally try to scare so you don't compete with them (i do that, so i know how it works ;)). Once you are ready to share your practices for income, "ditch" your old job and start doing your web design and development business.

JorgeM brings a good example of how to learn your development. I may add that if you want to create templates, you can try putting photoshop before html/html5... i don't know, maybe that will help you learn a bit better.

Personally, I have not found a problem in either version but I am sure people will be more interested in the update. It lowers the confusion on what to read quite a bit more.

In fact, why don't you just color the text rather than having little icons on the site? wouldn't that be more sufficient? Kind of like on cnn.com, you read an article, it gets faded but if you have not clicked it, it is still a dark color. On this site you can have purple for un-read/updated and grey for read and un-updated. I don't know, it could be a bit more helpful, don't you say?

I recommend you learn both but I advise you to be a guru in java atleast because their are more jobs that require java than python...

I learned 7 programming languages back in my university days and it was a great experience.

Everyone is right about the saying, "Practice makes perfect" but a lot of people don't realize is that you got to have a pretty well developed brain (doing math helps, reading helps, practice your coding and attempting it in different ways help) in order to write good code, as if you are writing an english essay. To me, a good trick is to keep challenging yourself, if you are not challenged, you will not grow...

I personally write code as if i were writing an essay but every once in a while, i need to make references...

@vegaseat, I wish my 2 dogs cost $16,400... In Dana Point (where i live) and Newport Beach (where we are moving next year) or any area of orange county all dogs are expensive, and yet almost everyone has one... Our new puppy is going probably cost double that by the time he 11.... to give you an idea, the new puppy costed about $2200 from the store... not counting anything else...

Sometimes if I can't find any of those tools like compressed air, or if i am just to lazy to search the garage or shed, i would use a sharp point like a tip of a thin mechanical pencil (like a .5) or a needle to remove pieces like crumbs out from the keys.

Try getting a job with a small private company rather than a well known company with a stock and billions in the bank. Big companies, as stultuske has mentioned, can be picky because they can afford it.

Either get a job with a small private company or start your own? Or do both? Maybe in a few years, when you are more experienced and have achieved a lot more, then try getting a job at a company like Amazon or facebook.

But remember, it doesn't hurt to try, does it?
