OK, I am home and I am testing - creating an environment. I use COMCAST and have a LinkSys router. I live in the East coast of USA.

OK, the HOST is a Windows XP running a VMWare version 1.0.1. I created a VM called VM-W2k3ent it's a windows 2003 Enterprise Server. The network is bridged.

I also have a vm XP Pro on the same HOST that is also bridged. The server is an AD DC the domain i created is VM-Field.com

The Windows 2003 Server I created a shared folder on it.
Well to make the long story short. From the Host computer I can ping the VM vm-w2k3ent and I can also get to the shared folder.

However any other computer at my house, can't even ping the ip address of the computer name vm-w2k3ent

Why is that. I believe i have done this before - and I was able to...

I believe that the bridged network vm machine should act and behave just like any other pc at my house which i should be able to ping correct?!

i ensured that the windows firewall was off, and keyed in the dns suffix name etc... i have even edited the dns to be the ip address of the vm machine to no avail.

Hmm... Do i have to change VM machine's network to NAT?

Okay so i'm going through this CBT nugget and i'm now on redirusr command - I am able to do it but it doesn't seem to go to a OU within an OU.

OK here's the scenerio - there is a BB 8800 wireless handheld EDGE ATT / Cingular is the carrier - the SIM is inserted but it keeps saying please insert SIM. I've rebooted 100x.

I read somewhere on the Internet that someone put someone else's sim and saw it, and put the original sim back and saw it!

So i tried to do the same only thing is that my BB is a 8700 .. not sure if that makes a difference. So the 8800 still reads please insert SIM,

and now mine also reads Please insert SIM. Did i just inflict irrecoverable damage to both BB's?

Can an Adobe PDF file *any version* be set up so that when you email it to someone they can't print to it?

I am trying to help my director and he can print any file but this one particular file he can't print - I'm wondering if Adobe has a feature where you can take away the print option from File>PRINT the print is grayed out.

When I key in by IP address same thing. When I try to remote to other computer *workstation XP* it's fine.

The one I am getting an error on is a Windows 2000 Server. Other computers in the same network and subnet etc.. are able to connect except for of course the computer I'm talking about and my own. This is a small non-profit Orginization - and there are only about 300 computers and this is really wierd.

If it's working like that then all the way to the right must be "cable select".

I'm a little confused here, are you talking about one system or all of their systems (you used both tenses)? If it's just one system convince them to let you install SP3 on that one. It's not at all uncommon to wait for service packs, if you're not experiencing issues with your system and there isn't a new feature you need there's no point to rush on a service pack installation. I usually wait 2-6 months to install a new service packs on existing systems.

As for the safeboot option, you should never have to set this manually since selecting options from the F8 Menu will do the same thing on a case by case basis.

OK here's my scenario - I just recenlty started worknig for a company - and they have Dell 260 Towers with 2 HD's in it. The OS is XP Pro - SP2 *this company doesn't believe in SP3*??? WTF right?

Anyway. Everytime I go to start>Run>msconfig and choose the Boot.ini tab and choose SAFE boot - the computer totally hangs and never makes it out of the POST and never boots up all the way??

I also notice that both HD have the same jumper settings all the way to the RIGHT of course if I'm holding it down upside down it's all the way to the left ..i'm holding it in a way that the writiing WD200 Western Digital is facing up.

So how should the jumpers be set on the HD and how should the boot.ini read?

What are the consequences of multiple XP pc's in a network that have the same SID but different computer name. I just started a job where the Help Desk bring the same ghost down on multiple pc's without doing Sysprep.

I have a Seagate 100mb external HD that connects via USB. For some reason it has a folder called Found.000 I can't delete it. When i try it reads:

Cannoit remove folder ...The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.

I can rename it though?! And I have I renamed it to DELETEME.

Ok, here's the scenario, someone is using Windows XP with the latest patches. it's an IBM t41. User logs on to an Active Directory Domain. the user accounts are Local (not roaming).

The issue is one day the user logs on and he get the following error:

Ok actually i forgot which window came up first , i think it maybe the other way around.

But in any event the symptoms are when he finally logs in his script still works and he can still get to his U: drive an other network drives. However his desktop is empty and My Documents folder is empty.

When you right click Start button and explore it's on the c:\documents and settings\temp ...

he can get to his c:\documents and settings\%his name% folder no problem.

Other than of course re-imaging the system, what would be a actual legitmate fix for this, and what may have caused it?

I hope everyone is doing well as they receive this message. If anyone knows some basic html language and can assist, it would be much appreciated. I will take them out to dinner at their choice of restaurant.

Basically there is a file that we house in our company a basic htm file that has menus/links to view Check Images.

I was assigned this responsibility with out proper training and I have no back ground or any knowledge in html. But it's been fairly simple as the previous person was able to just show me how to cut and past certain lines and increment some number so that it will update the web page accordingly with the Month and Date in it's respective year.

However since I have to update the page with a new submenu with 2006 Images link I can't simply because I was never taught and I just don't know how.

I'm sure it's very easy to do with someone who has some knowledge in HTML.

Ok for visual assistance I can provide a snapshot of the site i can email it to whom wants to assist.

Sounds like you have Scroll Lock turned on. Excel is one of the few programs I can think of that has ever made any use of that useless keyboard function. Turn Scroll Lock off, and your arrow key functions should return to normal.

ON Excell I usually click on a Cell and then Shift + Arrow key to select multiple contingous cells. Or when a cell is selected and i click on the arrow key example the right arrow key the cell selection should move to the right selecting the cell on one to the right. but it doesn't it only moves the view to the right.

this happens not only on my Excell application but anyapplication it seems it only moves the view of the application, instead of selection.

how do i revert back to the way i had it.

but soon as he's done.. i take him out for 10 mile run.
and that's just warm up. then alternating sprints and jog 100 yards at a time for 5 miles.

then i make him run up and down the hill which is about 30 degrees incline, and 50 yards distance with a 100 pound heavy bag (the ones boxers use). on his shoulders.

then we go over wrestling moves and live wrestle..

surely if you were to find a means of blocking out certain sites, the disobediancy of the child is still there and will cary it out in other ways other than just surfing porn sites.

be strict and firm and take away the PC from the child. In some cultures beating up the kid would be not only acceptable but very well promoted. unfortunetly here in the U.S. and it's infinite wisdom of child protection and foreign policy (off the subject) it's illegal.

My situation is::

O/S = Windows XP sp 2 on laptop IBM T41 or T23 or T42
Application Lotus Notes version 5
Problem::
When a user has an email opened and he clicks on "Reply with History" the new memo doesn't copy over the 'history' (the body of the email) instead just creates a new memo that is blank, as if he just clicked on Reply.

The only time that it works is when he clicks "Reply with hisotry" on an email that has a file attached to it.

has anyone here seen this type of problem and knows the fix? i have checked google to no avail.
the issue started about a week or so ago...it used to work fine.

I was at my brother's last night and his pc was getting an error message when booting or logging into.

I did not take full note of the error, but it read:
Atlcu32.exe something to the effect of .... %filename%.dll in the C:\windows\system 32 is not valid ...

uhm,.. I'm sorry i don't have much more information as that was late last night and i'm here at work, not by his PC.

I just tried doing a quick search on ATlcu32.exe in Google and i did not find it.

And Oh yeah my brothers pc is a new Gateway with Norton Antivirus installed, however he hasn't updated it or ran it in a while. Also, it was SP1 and windows update wasn't set to automatically run.

Naturally i upudated his NAV and scanned HD in which it found a trojan virus.
I also ran the Windows update till it got the SP2. (there were alot of updates done).

At that point when i went to reboot, the pc continued to get that error msg: and then it just hung. The keyboard wasn't responding not even to CntL /Alt /Delete. I rebooted a few time to no avail

I wanted to boot to safe mode and do further troubleshooting but it got late into the night already.

I helped out a user do a Windows update Sp2 from SP1. which should affect any MS office.

However after doing so she claims that on a local odbc.mdb file local on her my docs folder.. the queries she has saved are gone.

Does anyone here know how to find lost queries or has had any experience
with this type of problem and can suggest something to me.

How do i add a user to a group (not a local group) a directory group in sametime.?

Error Message:
(Registry Recovery) One of the files containing the system's Registry data had to be recovered by use of a log or alternate copy. The recovery was successful.

Action is to just hit ok. as per MS Site. But it keeps coming up when i boot up the machine. Is there a way to do something so that it doesn't keep coming up?

Well I think if its read only you can only read it perhaps I'm wrong though but even if you could copy it you probly wouldn't be able to add a file to it at the same time youd probly just have to save the files to your computer than burn it.

sorry I meant that the source CD is read only a CD-R but I meant add file to it, meaning Add file to the CD that I am creating.

so the CD i want to create is Source CD + *.inf file.

Uhm,.. I have now just rec'd a CD that is a All In ONe CD, that is pretty much able to detect most network Card and then i am able to ghost PC's to a mapped drive. However in particular we Have a Dell 280. And all i want to do is burn/copy this CD and also add some *.inf files for the network card of the 280 using
roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator Home 6.0.0.171.

I am using a laptop with one CD drive. I insert the source CD and copy it and also add the *.inf file to the desired directory of that and attempt to burn it on a blank, CD.

however after disc caching for over an hour Roxio tells me I need 4 CD's?? and the file/image is way over 700MB it's like 2000MB??? the file i added is barely 200KB??

So to make the long story short, how do i copy/burn a bootable CD and at the same time add files to it.

I went to Roxio site and they are asking to call a toll free number and to have a CC ready b/c they will charge 35 bucks?? Nice support eh?!

Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

I did the Roxio Creator Classic, and Select ALL to the D: drive (source) and dragged it over to the bottom pane of the roxio CD applicaiton window. I then drived to the location of the files i need to add and dragged tha as well to the appropriate folder on the bottom pane as well.

I then clikc on burn icon at the bottom left of the Roxio window and it has now brought up anothe window:

Title: Disc Caching
Caching..
D:\...and the directories..\..\
Caching progress...[][][][][][][] ...

but it was caching for i believe over an hour, i clicked cancel and did it again..and I guess it takes this long to cache?

does anyone know if I am doing this right and if it normally takes this long to cache?

WinPE+.ERDC.PQRE.
All in One CD

I am testing it out to ghos some PC's. I am particularly interested in ghosting (backing up) a Dell 280 desktop.

When the PC boots with the bootable cd i choose the XP Super...
and then after loading the shell ("shell" i believe is the correct term excuse me or correct me if it's not). It asks to start the Network configuration. I click 'OK'.

I then get an error message:
[Factory.EXE]
Failed o install the Network Adapter -- check WINBOM.

How do i go forward from this point.

This CD seems to work for alot of other PC's.

well i know that i can create a bootable floppy in XP via right click and format putting a check mark on the create an MS Dos start up disk.

sorry for the late reply. Yeah the PC's we need to ghost (make copy of NOT create Image for) vary. From IBM T23, T30, T41, T42, Dell 280, Dell 270 desktop, Dell Latitude Cpx's and Cpi's, IBM Netvista's.

In any event I will need to actually create a mutli-boot disc or CD that will have the Network Driver's for those PC's so the when I boot from the CD/disc i can ghost the machine. And this disc will be all in one for those such machine(s).

however I am doing this from windows XP, and when i try it it reads

I have bee assigned the project to create a multi boot disc for our pc's at work. We currently use symantec ghost v7.5.

I am a tech that only know's what he is taught. And all i know is we are given a CD that boots up the PC's that has the necessary drivers for the given PC's. I have never had to create a 'MultiBoot' disc to ghost PC's.

However I just wanted to know, exactly.. what defines a 'MultiBoot' disc?

And also, if anyone can give some recomendation as to what other software that i could try that maybe better.

We here at work normally have a difficulty time ghosting PC's that use Xircomm Network PCMCIA cards. Any suggestions on that would be great also.

When i open an Excel file it opens up Excel but not the actuall file that I double clicked. I would then have to click on File>open and drive to the file i want open.

I have uninstalled and re-installed office, Uninstalled my Antivirus. set the security level low in Macros, made sure the *.xls is pointing to MS Excel Worksheet.

I have downloaded Office UPDATE (office2003-kb834691)

I am currently downloading/installing Service Pack 2.
