Team Colleages are personal friends of mine who helped with getting the site off the ground back in the day, founding members, and ex-moderators. The one thing true of all team colleagues is that while none are active staff members, they were all instrumental in volunteering a significant amount of …

XML sitemaps are for Googlebots and crawlers. You can link to your sitemap from within your robots.txt file and Googlebot will find it automatically. They'll also give you information about indexing status of all of the links in Google Webmaster Tools. You can also have an HTML sitemap for your …

We actually use Google search results because we found they are better than when we were using our own in house engine. You should be getting results similar to if you did a regular google search and added `site:www.daniweb.com` to the search term.

With social media being all the craze, and the growing popularity of Facebook groups and such, are forums dying? If so, what exactly is replacing them? Can social networking sites truly replace forums, and where is a happy medium?

Been moving into the new office and the snowstorms keep putting a damper on things. I've finally got my SVN server set up again in our new office so I can start coding once again. Was there anything anyone wanted me to look at over the past few days?

Is this a serverside slowness or a javascript slowness everyone is experiencing? Serverside = Page takes forever to contact the server and receive a response from the server Javascript = Page half-loads and then the browser stalls before downloading the rest

Received a phone call at like 4 am from the hosting company saying the load balancer was down. Meanwhile, they are supposed to manage the load balancer?! I called James and went back to sleep.

I have never heard of IP canonicalization. I'm not sure what that is. URL canonicals is when multiple URLs on your website all display the same or very similar content. Typically this happens with dynamic sites. You don't want to bog down or confuse the Google index by having multiple …

It's okay to hide content due to user interactivity reasons (such as hiding a navigation menu by default that only switches to show when a user hovers their mouse somewhere, for example). But it's a big no-no to use cloaking techniques, which means showing end users something different than you're …

Both of these issues are related to posts that happened within minutes of each other. There was probably some type of server glitch that stopped the scripts from executing midway through. We'll be switching off of Apache onto Nginx soon, which I hope is going to improve the situation.

The articles you're referring to have no related articles. The web interface fakes it and shows featured articles in the same forum. I'll make the API fake it too.
