Me? Or any moderator with the ability to delete posts or ban a user?

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Well what do ya know! It actually populated my bookmark list with a handful of websites I visited yesterday??? I'm not using the Google toolbar or anything, so I assume it is client-side and if I went to a different computer, they wouldn't be there?

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I'm pretty well acquainted with most of Google's offerings, but unfortunately I don't think they do. Google Buzz is the only thing that comes to mind, but it's not really a bookmarking service.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Are you using an ad blocker? (such as the Chrome ad blocker??)

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Does StumbleUpon send a lot of traffic nowadays?

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Thank you for the heads up.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Site seems to be running smoothly on this end.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

As far as I know, whenever you create a username you can access your profile at facebook.com/username. This doesn't work for groups or fan pages though. Just member profiles.

What about eCommerce? eCommerce just means that you sell a product over the Internet (i.e. web-based retail business). Do you want to know specifically about setting up shopping carts or launching your own eCommerce business?

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Joseph: HUH???? I have no clue what you just said.

Do just what qlipboard said. Get links from a lot of various mid-level trafficked websites within your niche. I say mid-level because you don't want only pages that all have PR0 and no traffic themselves, but you also want to keep it affordable without paying $5,000 a link to be on the homepage of cnn.com

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Create a Facebook group and post to it ... everything you think that your website visitors would want to see. Post behind-the-scenes information about how you run your website. Photos. Videos. Engage with your audience!! Ask for website feedback and suggestions.

Heavily promote your Facebook group on your website as a place to engage with your website visitors. Check out the Facebook widgets (snippets of HTML code you can embed within your website to promote your Facebook page) similar to the way we do on the DaniWeb homepage.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Umm ... Can't you already do this exact thing from weather.com?

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Seems to work for me?? Are you sure??

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Google's algorithm is based on the concept that when other sites link to your webpage, that particular page probably has some good content and has something good to say since all these other sites think it's important enough to link to. Therefore, getting backlinks (links to your site) is very important in increasing your ranking in the search engine. Google pagerank is at the core of Google's algorithm: It is a numerical representation of not just how many links you have originating, and from how many different domains, but the quality of the links as well. Not all links are created equal: A link on the homepage of Microsoft.com is worth more than a link on your family's photo album on the web.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Backlinks are what get's you onto the first page of Google.

Yes, this is a known bug. Unfortunately, Apple has decided to make the conscious decision of not following the CSS standard on their mobile web browsers and handling fixed positioning differently than EVERY single other web browser in the world, including Safari for the desktop and every other mobile web browser in existance.

Web development activist groups have petitioned Apple to change this multiple times, and they have refused to even though they can give no good reason why Safari for iOS should be different.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

HUH?? I have no clue what you are talking about.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

men in black --> will smith

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Good, unique content, updated fresh, that other people are naturally going to want to link to.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Eek, I'm sorry that happened to you. I'm going to repeat what the above posters asked, which is whether or not you recently made any changes AT ALL? Even things you would not have associated with your rankings. A dramatic website makeover? Changes to the homepage? Dramatic change to page content? Any new or different SEO or marketing efforts? Can you pinpoint the change having occurred at the same time as ANYTHING that you recently did?

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I put ZERO weight into the page rank number that Google's toolbar spits out at you. It's entirely inaccurate. However, as SEOs we still care about google's internal pagerank algorithm. However, we have no clue where we actually rank in it ;)

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I put no weight in hwo many backlinks Google tells me that I have. It fluctuates all the time and at one point we went from 8 million down to 1 million, and yet our traffic from Google significantly increased.

Definitely use Google Webmaster Tools, and evaluate the information it gives you about your linking structure, but do not put it high on a pedestal. At the end of the day, all that matters is how much traffic you are getting.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Thank you for posting this clarification.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Yes, using the .htaccess would do a redirect 301. This will inform Google and the rest of the search engines to only index the real location and not the subdomain one.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

The reason I asked about the traffic is because the number of links Google reports for me always fluctuates significantly and at one point decreased from somewhere around 12 million down to 1 million. But our traffic from Google has always steadily increased.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

An .htaccess file should fix the problem, if they will let you upload it. If not, see if they will do it for you since it does hurt the search results.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Ah yes, I forgot there even was a Yahoo webmaster central place.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

We've had the photos posted for awhile now, but the videos of the June DaniWeb event have finished being edited and are now posted on YouTube:

I just tweeted "Stabbing at Comic-Con resulted from atendees fighting over the better seat to see Seth Rogen" ... It is sad and pathetic that I had to tweet that.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

You're above par.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

In theory, good idea. In practice ... perhaps there is a reason there exists so much doubt about how large communities can work together to produce great development projects. haha. It seems like getting so many people on the same page and working together on a project in their spare time like this would be doable but be an organizing nightmare and be VERY time consuming. Still, I am wondering if there is any interest among the community? ...

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Also ... If 1&1 permanently keeps a copy of your site at that subdomain, you may want to consider adding an .htaccess file to do a Permanent Redirect if their site is accessed from anything except www.domain.com

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

It's possible that 1&1 uses a subdomain on the initial-website.co.uk domain for all new sites that haven't yet propagated over to their own domains. If it is not a brand new site (with a very recently registered domain name) then I would contact 1&1.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

You don't have to pay to get into Yahoo. Yahoo will typically send you less traffic than Google because the Yahoo search engine receives less traffic than Google, so there are fewer people to send. However, if you're not receiving a single visitor, then you may be blacklisted or just don't have what the Yahoo algorithm is looking for in terms of unique content, backlinks, etc.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

If they're in the Sitemap.xml file and they were previously in Google's index, then that means that google definitely knows they exist. Google's algorithm has made the decision, for one reason or another, that they aren't important enough to send traffic to.

Perhaps they need more freshly updated content. Or perhaps they need more links to those pages specifically from other sites.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

There is a link at the bottom saying Threads I've Started.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I assume you mean bing and not ping. If only one page is indexed, it is because the search engine dosen't think your site is worthy enough of having more than that indexed. Increase your number of backlinks (have other sites on the web link to you) and provide useful, fresh, interesting content daily.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

We get no traffic from Yahoo! either. I think it's because Yahoo! themselves get virtually no traffic. ;)

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I'm not sure what you're talking about? You want to publish articles and promote them??

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

FeedBurner provides all of the extra statistics and also gives you the option to use AdSense for Feeds to make money through your RSS feeds. Unless they are well syndicated, it probably won't be a whole lot of revenue. But it's an option.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Are you noticing a significant decrease in traffic as well?

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I don't know what neobux is. However, there are a lot of free script resources on the web. Try a google search or a repository such as HotScripts.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

By default we don't save a copy of messages in sent items because then the message is in our database twice (once in someone's inbox and a second time in someone else's outbox), and we try to conserve as many resources as possible.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

FaceBook called me yesterday to solicit their PPC services. They said they start at around $0.45 a click and go to about $1 or $2 a click. Starting at 45 cents is WAY too high for me, especially when Google has a one penny a click minimum! :)

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

You can sort listings by thread start time instead of last post time.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Unfortunately I do all of my AdWords campaign edits on the website. How flexible is Google's downloadable campaign management tool?

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Google AdWords tends to do well with ad campaigns that need to back out into a performance-based metric (leads, purchases, etc). There is also always the social media angle (Twitter, YouTube channel, etc)

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

You shouldn't have to manually submit your site to search engines anymore. You just need other sites to link to you and they will find you. And if no other sites link to you, then even if you do submit your site manually, you won't rank for anything, since link building plays such a big role in the search algorithms.

I have no clue what Weebly is, sorry??

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Meta tags are being more and more heavily used for social media purposes. For example, Facebook takes what is in the meta description tag when someone shares a link on FB.

Search engines, especially Google, really give you the best return when you write for humans and not for them.
