Alice is the TTF A.I. bot. She's an artificial intelligence forum member who is rather dumb. She has been disabled for the time being.

And, why thank you Dan :P

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

haha
OK I see what you mean
Even though I like her!!

Sorry Alice ... looks like you're not allowed to post in the Random Announcement board anymore!

Coffee House only!!

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I just added a link to "Print Topic" when viewing a thread ... it displays a graphic-less version for easy printing :D

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

btw ... did anyone realize that the index page has a random computer quote towards the bottom?

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

btw peeps ....

Any opinions on the new TechTalk Forums logo up top?

Dan doesn't like the font ... I'm searching for a better one but I'm bad at that and so this one is staying for the time being at least ...

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I pulled an all-nighter adding lotsa new features to the forums. (OK, so I just couldn't sleep b/c of really bad headaches, but ... well ... at least I got something accomplished).

There's a new logo up top.
There's Alice, an AI bot who loves to chat in the Coffee House forum.
There's a new JavaScript based chat room, which Alice is always in.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

oooooooooh Grimm's Fairy Tales! Those used to be on Nick Jr. when Nick Jr. first debuted on Nickelodeon !! hehe I used to watch those nonstop when I was lil - I think I saw all of them 10X

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Don't yell at me .... but ...
I lost those files AGAIN .... those 10 episodes (of that show where people's facial expressions wouldn't change for like 10 minutes despite overly exaggerated soap opera style plots) you kept sending me like 5000000 times)

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Hey... I was just doing some browsing and I found this site:

http://www.iwantitcheap.com/

Is this an example of Amazon web services??

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

btw Dan ...

how did that jsp/oracle project for Dr Doboli turn out?

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I hear ya ... I just thought it was a neat feature how you can create your own customized bookmark list. Especially the way it's so easy to look at the list of links posted by ppl, and then just click next to them, and there they are added to your own list!!

Just trying to convince ppl to test it out ... :P

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Boo hoo I don't think anyone wants to use my new links section!

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Yes, it's true that anything listed in the run key in the registry loads upon startup. However, I'm not sure if things listed in other parts of the registry can load as well ...

You've checked the Start Up tag in the start menu as well I take it?

Windows XP supports multiple users. Do you have administrator privileges?? You can tell by going to "User Accounts" in the Control Panel.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

If a program adds stuff to the registry, this could be the problem. The registry might be set to automatically load certain files that you want to delete. That is why they are in use by the system as processes, etc.

(Windows XP uses NT system processes while Windows 98 doesn't - this might be a reason why it used to work and now it doesn't with this operating system.)

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Just about every single program nowadays that comes with an installer puts itself in Add/Remove programs. Which program is this, by the way? You just tried deleting it by removing the folder from Windows Explorer?

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

You uninstalled via the Add/Remove Programs dialog box, right?

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I have to admit, it seems like a cool idea. Especially to just do some quick stuff in Linux without even touching your hard drive.

But I can't see it being practical. Actually ... I'm a lil confused. It's a bootable cd? So *does* it touch your hard drive? I can't see running an operating system entirely off a CD.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

:-P yeahyeahyeah :P

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Hi blackcloud. Thank you for taking the time to respond. I'm doing fine now! (it was over ten months ago!) I ended up with concussions and contusions and a bunch of burns from the airbag going off, had to see a neurologist a few times, and was out of school for awhile. But i recovered 100% within a few months and I'm doing perfectly fine now :)

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Haha - ok enuf of that ... finally all better and just in time for another site makeover. I just can't seem to come up with a style I'm happy with.

That last 3d grey/black one was very nice ... but a bit too flashy and cluttered for my taste.

What do y'all think?

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Don't you mean Alice? :?:

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Hey there!! Yes feeling a LOT LOT LOT better. The only bad thing is I'm on pain medicine now which puts me to sleep ... which gets quite interesting during classes.

But other than that the only complaints I have are all the work that has piled up that's due at the end of this weekend!!

Thanks for asking :P

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Hey there! Thanx for all the well wishes. Yeah, I'm slowly getting better. (Why is it a rule that you always get worse before you get better?) Right now I'm just ultra sore from head to toe.

Once again, thanks all!! Talk to uz all real soon!! :P

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I was trying to test out a new Guest Admin mod I installed. Basically if a guest user just types a message, there's nothing you can do about it. But if they type a message AND anything (e.g. "blah") as a username, you can associate that username they typed in with a valid member. Ok Ok enough ranting. YES! That post was THAT IMPORTANT!!

Btw, did ya notice who's a global mod once again? wink wink

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I'm still having a problem with guest administration. In order for me to change that post from "guest" to "inscissor" I had to manually edit the MySQL database. (ugh what a pain)

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Hey hey peeps! Thanx for the quick recovery wishes. I still have a bad headache but it's beginning to feel a bit better. I'm just all around sore right now. While I'm stuck at home recovering I found the time to redo TechTalk! Other than that, I've been pretty busy with skewl ..........

It's going to be a looong year !

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

TechTalkGal here (yes, the forum admin) ... as if the lil text to the left saying "Admin" under my name didn't give it away. As for where I've been, friggin' busy with school!

I show up though, honest I do ... yes, yes ... *I keep telling myself that*

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Sorry bout that .... there was a period at the end of the URL  See what happens when ya let the forum parse and auto-link for ya?

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I was just looking over some of the sample questions for the Dreamweaver certification from http://www.macromedia.com/support/training/certified_professional_program/dw_dev_questions.pdf It looks rather dumb.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I know I very rarely post in the programming section (and thank you Dan for continuously reminding me of that). But I do have a question for once.

Dan, you explained how one uses ODBC to connect to an Access database, and how to do it directly. Now my question ... What's the advantage of using ODBC?? Is it more powerful etc etc etc ?? Is it a Microsoft-only thingie?

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Are you talking about Windows Me and XP's system restore feature (which by default uses about 10% per drive as "back-up"?)

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

weird ... I've never heard of anything like that before. A piece of hardware which overclocks a processor?

Actually ... I'm almost positive it's CMOS Setup

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I guess the site was down or something, b/c it's working for me now too. Unfortunately, the site doesn't help me at all :( It just seems to show how to use an old version of Fetch - and I still can't find any .. for it :/ weird; thanx anyways! :)

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I can't access the link. I'm getting a 404 error :/

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Well, I've been using fetch for awhile, but I'm having some grievances against it.

First, it's not drag 'n' drop compatible? Second, how can I go up a directory - I'm looking for an ".." symbol somewhere I can click on, but it seems like it wants me to constantly be using the dropdown menu when browsing. Very obnoxious.

Also, anything that'll support s2s or fxp? Looking for a powerful ftp client and coming up very short.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Well ... I figured out what my problem is !! I tried using Fetch, and it looks as if my campus has firewalled me from OptOnline (boo hoo) - other ftp sites work tho ... so at least I know it's not me that's the problem!!

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

The first thing I tried was using Internet Explorer as an ftp server, and it didn't work at all :( At first it worked ... but then what it started doing was if I were to click on a folder, the folder icon would just disappear and show 0 files as the contents ?! It was getting very weird on me. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. Very quirky (just like IExplore for Win is when using it as an ftp client). Which is why I figured I needed a real ftp client ... and to my amazement they aren't popular for the mac at all ?! I'm thinking about Fetch ... I emailed them and got a free key for student/academic use.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

help much needed ... i just bought myself an iMac for my dorm room and I can't for the life of me find a nice, freeware ftp client for OS X (jaguar)

pleeeez help !!

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I just have to chuckle ;)

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I spent quite awhile browsing the search engine. It seems really cool and I'm actually impressed - however, it doesn't seem very functional or practical.

In any case, the two of them are in the middle of revamping http://www.pcmodkingdom.tk and it's coming along very, very nicely! It's full of pictures, eye candy, and different ways people rigged their pcs to make them truly unique!

I'm getting a page cannot be displayed error :!: :!:

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

link please?

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Personally, I never understood why Outlook always makes the name of the default profile "Default" instead of using the username of the person logged in.

Dani 4,653 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I know I must be appearing mighty scarce from the boards lately. I just want y'all to know I'm really here in spirit (hehe) - I've been working day in, day out on all the back-end stuff non-stop. It's almost done ... just to let ya all know I really do check these boards quite often.

Let me know if there's anything you wish to see, or have changed, etc etc ... I know a lot of you don't like the new frontpage - can ya tell me what you don't like about it?? What would you like to see on it that isn't there now? What makes the board index as a front page better? Let me know so maybe I can come up with a design that's the best of both worlds!
