Usually folk talk about the PDF viewer if you are on a web page. But for WFE the steps at https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/not-default-pdf-owner-windows10.html work for me and on Windows 10 Home and Pro continue to work today.

The opinion on tags has three or many more takes. For as users can follow a tag and see new content with said tag. What stops you from doing this. Be specific. If you need to have it done for you, consider Upwork, etc.

The UI for the last project was three push buttons and a pair of 7 segment LEDs. Why? Cost. It's a box that lives out of sight except when the technician works on the system. It's a horrible UI and you find yourself consulting the manual on use and constantly looking up the codes shown on the 7 segment LEDs. Product cost was the overriding criteria in that design to the point where the 4th button would have made it much better but then cost cutting is the game on something that has some million plus units being made that will never be seen by the public.

Any project is still an overreach IMO.

As to the end users in those systems, it's an automatic door so the user interface is usually a big push button or none at all for the video camera based system. You walk up to the door and it opens. Closes when there appears to be no one in the door area or nearby.

To pull this off, you never do something oddball. Put what you need in the code, submit it to the source management system you use (you didn't tell) and if you don't want it in the final build, use the usual VS debug build for your needs and then for production, your ifdef omits this code.

Regarding number of clicks. Since I can't see your code I can't see why you wrote about that. Here, once we are in the handler, what we do with the following clicks is up to our code. Also, you didn't specify what should happen in this click handler on subsequent clicks.
