Erika...Those Kingston modules are not included in the ones suggested at Kingston.

In order to run you RAM in dual channel the modules have to have the exact same specs.

The RAM that you bought is what Kingston calls "value" RAM which doesn't have the best reputation for dependability. As with most everything else you get what you pay for.

No information = no help.

dcc 88 Posting Virtuoso

You really don't need the wrist strap, just touch the metal of the case before you handle anything with ICs, and you definitely don't need to do this afterwards.

I could get a picture of the PSU that showed the four pin connector, but if it is in the mesh with the twenty pin bundle you can carefully slit the mesh and separate the four pin connector from it and then zip tie the bundle. Or... you could just use one of the molex connectors as the motherboard gives you the option of either the square four pin connector or the straight moles four pin connector.

If you have an RCA audio output, not a speaker output, you should be able to plug that into you receiver. The output could also be the 1/8" stereo plug in which case you will need to purchase an adapter that will convert this to a RCA connector.

The signal of the audio output is unamplified, this is the signal that you want your receiver to see. A speaker output is amplified and you do not want to plug this into your receiver as it could damage it.

The output of the audio card could be stereo, 2.1, 5.1, or 7.1 depending on the card.

What is the model of your computer?

dcc 88 Posting Virtuoso

In terms of construction, a bank of RAM is any number of chips put side-by-side to build a 64 bit wide array of memory. The most popular widths of memory chips are 8 bits and 16 bits.
That means you could construct an array with four or eight chips.

Modules with less chips and the same amount of RAM generally are faster modules and will overclock better.

dcc 88 Posting Virtuoso

It doesn't look like they're identical as there are differences of the chips.

Would you please list the make and model of the different modules?

dcc 88 Posting Virtuoso

Try wiping the hdd with WipeDrive and reinstall the OS.

dcc 88 Posting Virtuoso

First thing to try is to disable the automatic restart, when the computer is booting hit F8, when the menu comes up look for that option.

There is a possibility that this is maleware, do you have Adaware on this computer?

dcc 88 Posting Virtuoso

Used to be here, but it's actually more expensive now. Silly, because diesel is cheaper to manufacture and diesel cars get [typically] extremely good mileage.

Supply and demand.

dcc 88 Posting Virtuoso

What motherboard and what PSU are you using?

dcc 88 Posting Virtuoso

RueB, I get the feeling that you I are not talking about the same thing. What I'm referring to is the problem that occurs when you introduce a hdd to a different motherboard chip set. This usually will at best cause stability problems in the OS, it can also corrupt the OS to the point that it will need to be reinstalled.

I live in a rural area off I-80 about 3,000" elevation in the Ca. foothills, our gas prices are always about ten to fifteen cents more because we are the last gas station for many miles heading into the Sierras and the only small town for many more miles. Today the two more expensive stations are charging $3.45 and $3.57, one of the attendants has gotten into the spirit of the deal and holds a balck mask against his face when he takes payment for gas.

California has always been more expensive than most other states with excuses of having to change from the winter to summer "formula" or vise versa. Or they will blame is on the fact that at these crucial times there is a repair that just happened to be scheduled at that time reducing production and inflating the price of gas. The fat cats are consistently reporting record quarterly earnings and not cutting us any slack. The price of a barrel of crude oil is cheaper than it was a year ago at this time yet we are experiencing record gas prices?!? Getta rope:@

dcc 88 Posting Virtuoso

It will depend on the manufacturer, some can be, some will require a floppy.

dcc 88 Posting Virtuoso

And then again it can all be explained by incompatible RAM which is basically what is going on here, there may be other issues but until he takes care of the first aspect no one is going to know for sure.

dcc 88 Posting Virtuoso

Hard Drives don't normally need the same chip set on the Motherboard for it to work. Normally, to my knowledge, it just needs to be the right connector.

It isn't the hdd that has the problem seeing the different chip set, it is the operating system.

I finally found the reference that I was looking for regarding the suspension of her drivers license, it seems that her license was suspended after her arrest for DUI and was pulled over three times after that violating her probation.

Hilton will serve her time separated from the general inmate population in a "special needs housing unit" at the Century Regional Detention Center in Lynwood, California, The Associated Press reported. These cells are specifically reserved for high-profile inmates — including celebrities, police officers and prison guards — who might otherwise be targeted by fellow prisoners.

dcc 88 Posting Virtuoso

Right you are. But she was going to get only a 45 day jail term and now even that has been reduced to half citing 'good behaviour' on her part. All this after pictures of her smoking a joint were published!!!!!

Obviously being stoned she was considered so mellow that it has to be termed "good behavior".

dcc 88 Posting Virtuoso

why did she go to jail i never heard anytign on the news maybe cause i live in canada and that stuff doesnt get over here lol.

Paris Hilton was arrested for driving under the influence and as I understand it she was also driving on an expired drivers license.
You can read about it here.

dcc 88 Posting Virtuoso

I'm glad to see that our legal system is unbiased and will treat Paris Hilton just like anyone else, or at least that's what I thought until I heard that they have reduced her jail time by half. I heard that this was based on the over crowding of the jails and her "good behavior". I thought you didn't get rewarded for good behavior unless you were serving a sentence.

Since most of the members that post in this forum are of the younger generation I would to know how to you feel about Paris Hilton as a teen role model?

dcc 88 Posting Virtuoso

You are sure that both motherboards are the same version, exact same chip set?

One other possibility would be that your having a over heating issue. Is the heat sink and fan assembly for the CPU free of dust, are the intake louvers clean? Are all of you fans running properly?

Just curious here, why didn't you just install the second hdd as a slave drive?

dcc 88 Posting Virtuoso

That noise is usually the hdd. Go to the manufacturers site and download their diagnostic tool and run it. Most of these will require you to transfer this download to a floppy to boot from.

dcc 88 Posting Virtuoso

Do both motherboard the same, more specifically do they have the same chipset? If not then you may have a problem as the hdd will already be set to recognize the chipset of the old motherboard and will get confused by seeing the new chipset. This could be fatal to the OS and require reinstalling.

dcc 88 Posting Virtuoso

I have told you that your problem may be that the module that is not supported by Kingston for that motherboard could be your problem. Good luck

Your line of logic took a left turn and has ignored the obvious fact that they are two separate incidents legally. What happens through the courts is considered legal, what you're talking about is a vigilante act.

dcc 88 Posting Virtuoso

Well, that isn't recognized as cruel and unusual punishment because they are given the same punishment as the other criminals (I mean if they're in prison) but the other inmates treat them differently and that isn't considered cruel and unusual punishment by the government.

Convicts on death row are common in the same respect that you have listed, yet the different means of execution have been under fire as being cruel and unusual. The only reason that the situation that I mentioned isn't on the same level is because some bleeding heart just hasn't gotten around to adding to the list yet.

Idealism is great, but it ain't practical.

dcc 88 Posting Virtuoso

You're not going to mess anything up by playing around in the BIOS, you can always reset the CMOS by using its jumper or removing and replacing the CMOS battery. But what does happen is if you have settings like the ones I mentioned they will go back to their default values when you clean the CMOS, you will have to go back and enable these, and a USB mouse and or keyboard could be included in that.

I provided you with two links to RAM that will be compatible with your motherboard, one was for Kingston, and the other was for Crucial. Personally I have a preference for Crucial.

As for whether I think that your module could be what is slowing things down, yes it is possible. If you use the link that I provided for Kingston you will see that it is not on the list of suggested modules which they know will be compatible with your motherboard.

Yes, that was me that mentioned ethanol. If it's not energy efficient then why is it included in the Energy Policy Act of 1992?

The following is an excerpt from this article.

What is EPAct? The Energy Policy Act (EPAct) was passed in 1992 to accelerate the use of alternative fuels in the transportation sector. The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) primary goals are to decrease the nation's dependence on foreign oil and increase energy security through the use of domestically produced alternative fuels. DOE's mission is to replace 10% of petroleum based motor fuels by the year 2000, and 30% by 2010.

You will notice that there is no reference to the fuels being efficient.

dcc 88 Posting Virtuoso

Yes, what you say is logical but I think there are still a few problems with it. For one, when someone murders someone else they usually don't plan on getting caught (obviously not all murdurers are caught). I don't think there are many people that actually ask themself, "Is killing him/her/them worth life imprisonment" and then continue to commit the act expecting to be convicted. To me it isn't a good deterrent. I don't think people will kill any less. Numbers might change a little but who says, "the only thing I'll get is life imprisonment, that isn't too bad." Nobody wants that. But then again I can't speak the minds of everybody because I don't know how everybody thinks, but I don't think that's a good deterrent. I hate child molestors just as much as you and anybody else but again, we don't know how people think so who knows if someone truly does regret what they did and is willing to face the punishment? He would be just as unaccepted by you, me, and just about everyone else, but at least to himself he realizes he was wrong and regrets ever doing it and wishes he could take it back. The already cruel and unusual punishment you proposed would then be even worse.

These people never think that they are going to get caught, and unfortunately there are a lot of murders that don't get solved. As forensic science and investigative techniques improve more cases will result in …

I can't wait to get bush out of office. I would be money that the main reason gas prices haven't gone down or we haven't found other fuel sources is because he has his hands in the oil stocks.

Then again, i could just be being ignorant.

Bush and his cronies certainly are not environmentally conscious and have done a pretty good job of playing ostrich in those regards, but this problem was there well before they got into office.

Alternative materials for crude oil have been around since WWII, the Germans developed a synthetic oil due to the shortage that was hindering them.

One of the best alternatives that I can see is the use of the hydrogen fuel cell. They are developing techniques to produce hydrogen without using fossil fuels, once they can do this we will have a real winner.

here is what i've got:
KVR667D2N5/1G
i did'nt get the part about the intel site, what do you want me to do?
i did defrag, and i have in one drive 66% free and in the other 13%.
as for the applications, it's a new OS so i have pretty much nothing.

now a really strange thing happens
my USB mouse is not recognized, but has the red light on...
i tried other USB devices and i'm affraid they're gone!

could this be connected?

About Intel, I was just explaining that I had tried to download the user's manual for your motherboard but had run out of patience with their site, it's very frustrating. What I was suggesting was to check in you copy of the user's manual to see what is has for instruction for installing only on RAM module.

As for the mouse, if it is a USB type you may need to enable it in the BIOS. If this reset and you need to do this again change the CMOS battery.

The RAM that you listed is not one of the modules listed as being compatible with your board. Do you have another module that you can try?

dcc 88 Posting Virtuoso

Electrostatic discharge is one of the easiest way to kill an IC, it is not in the module, it is in you, but it is also one of the easiest to prevent. The cord from your PSU that plugs into the wall receptacle is grounded, and in turn so is the case that it is installed in. Just leave the PSU AC cord plugged in and you will have a ready made ground. Just make sure that you touch the metal of the case to discharge yourself before you handle the motherboard or any of the components on it. If your PSU has an on/off switch do turn it off as a precaution.

One of the issues that was eluded to was regarding needing to reinstall the OS. When you take a hdd that has been used with one motherboard and install it in another with a different one, more specifically a different chip set, the OS will try to recognize the new chip set and this is usually fatal in the long run.

If you are going to reuse the same CPU in this new motherboard you will need to clean off the old layer of thermal compound and reapply new compound. You will find it easier to install the CPU and RAM before you install the motherboard in the case. If you place the motherboard on a piece of thick card board this will protect it when you press on it to install the components.

Serunson, sorry to get back to you this late. For a good understanding of the difference in the types of ATX PSUs read this article. From what you having posted I suspect that you don't quite have a real concept of what this is actually about. The voltages of the different rails is part of it, but so are the newer connectors for specialized applications, like the square four pin connector for the CPU, or the six pin connector for the newer graphics cards.

dcc 88 Posting Virtuoso

It would help if you could provide more information, like the make and model of you computer. What fan are you referring to, does it not run?

Have you done any recent house cleaning in the case? I would check to see if you have accumulated dust on the heat sink for the CPU.

Btw, you will get more people reading this if you post your own thread rather than attaching your question to an old thread.

Inconsistent date and time is usually because of the 3V CMOS battery going south.

If you are going to install another operating system you will need to at least reformat the hdd.

dcc 88 Posting Virtuoso

It sounds like a connectivity issue in the power supply, not necessarily the PSU. I don't think it is you cord, but you can eliminate this by shorting the AC plug and using an Ohm meter to read continuity at the other plug. Having the computer shut off after moving it suggests that this is a physical problem, and taking the laptop apart can be bear if you are not familiar with it. Unfortunately in order to effectively trouble shoot the power supply you will need to get to different points of reference to see where it is breaking down.

Can you demonstrate any repeatability by moving it and having it shut off?

Whether you bought gas yesterday or will by it tomorrow will not make a bit of difference to the oil companies. It all evens out in the end as profits go. Making this demonstration in the attempt to make that oil industry aware of how fed up we are with their prices is like pouring water on a ducks back. As mentioned before in this thread there are things that we can and should be doing in the form of alternative means of transportation. There is nothing that we as consumers are going to be willing to do that would have an immediate effect on the oil industry. The current trend in automobile fashions are those huge gas guzzling 4w4 SUVs that the average suburbanite needs to drive on well maintained roads for about a fifteen to twenty minute drive to the mall. We all realize that we have a problem that isn't going to get better, but we have another case of NIMBY, no one wants to be the first on the band wagon.

Apparently the crucifictions was not much of a deterrent because people still, after 2,000 years, commit the same crimes. And even today people still commit the same crimes over-and-over knowing full well what the penalty is. As much as I'd like to agree with Dcc's punishment, that would make us not any better then the sex offender. Preventing cruel and inhuman punishment is not meant for the criminal but to prevent society from degrading to lawlessness. We as society need to respect each other instead of treating everyone like a bunch of thugs. The movie Escape From New York comes to mind.

You need to remember that the crucifixions were popular because of their public display, and don't forget the games at the colosseum...the public looked forward to them.

Making and enforcing stiffer sentences is not going to reduce anyone to the level of the criminal breaking these laws. I certainly don't believe that respecting these criminals has been effective either. We have underage teens killing people to gain their gang status knowing that they most likely won't be prosecuted as an adult, these kids don't respect life. The closest that the majority of the public comes to being violated by a crime is watching the evening news, I guarantee that if more people had personal experiences with these violent crimes the general pacifist attitude of the public would change. I would also like to remind you that what you are comparing life to is a movie based on …

You hit the nail in the head. Over here, (USA) every thing has to be
so politically correct, that we are handicapping ourselves to the point
of paralisis.

This is a very difficult issue because we can not be absolutely sure we are right every time we convict and sentence a person to death. Until this issue is resolved there are going to be people who will want the death sentence suspended or abolished. I have to admit that I see the practical aspect of this, but do believe that we need to have some means of imposing some form of deterrence. Unfortunately the same laws that we have passed to protect us also protect the convicts.

Personally I would like to see sentences that would make others think twice about trying it. For example...take a child molester, there should be a sentence where this person is taken out into the desert where a six by six foot cabin has been built. The prisoner will have his pecker nailed to the floor and a knife left within the prisoner's reach, the cabin will then be set on fire leaving the prisoner to make a choice. Would this be cruel and unusual punishment? You bet! Would it deter the next person thinking about committing the same crime, if the person had a healthy mental state yes...and that's where the problems begin. Most of the heinous crimes are committed by people that we recognize as having mental disorders. Cho …
