dont use VC++ Express. By default it can only make .NET apps, not proper win32 apps. To make "classic" c++ apps you need to install and configure it to use somethig called the platform SDK which is a pain in the ass

Use dev c++ instead.

maybe it takes ages searching for USB devices. My dell took around 10 seconds looking for bootable USB keys which annoyed me so i turned it off in the BIOS. Maybe you have a similar issue?

jbennet 1,618 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

yeah its a good idea to update your firmware. word if warning though, treat it like your BIOS in your pc and dont update it unless you actually require any new features or fixes as a bad flash can break a device

when you get to the textbased part that requires you to hit enter (should usually say something like boot: ) change it to read this:

boot: knoppix lang = us keyboard=us, xkeyboard=us

knoppix also isnt a particuarly good distibution to begin linux with by the way. You may want to take a look at ubunntu instead as it is much easier and runs off the cd like knoppix, although it has an icon that allows you to install if you want.

fries = the sort you get in mcdonalds

chips = thicker than fries , usually acompanied with battered fish or sausage

chip shop = where you get fish and chips (there very common, nearly every high street has one)

pizza is pretty common but less common that chips or chinese/indian takeway

go to where it says:

Ubuntu 6.10, the Newest Ubuntu Release

and choose a country and website nearest to you so that you get a fast speed

you will then begin downloading the .iso file, you burn this to a blank cd using something like DeepBurner (free version)

Easiest to install linux distros are SuSE, Fedora and Ubuntu.

If you have less than 512 ram Ubuntu is th best choice also it hasa a livecd mode where you can try it out without installing. Ive never used its partitioner tho so i cant comment on it.

SuSE is best if you want sonething that is easyt o use

Fedora is kinda inbetween

This year was a bit different due to circumstances; my girl's brother just came back from Army Airborne training for holiday leave and will be shipping out to Iraq soon for ground duty in Baghdad. Her family was very somber. It was nice to be with her family and be included, though. I suppose that is what it is about.

a family member of mine has recently returned from basra with the air force i know your position

you had to voluenterer (therefore it wasnt really voluntary at all) but if they ran out of food you got a slice of bread and butter (upside was that you got seconds if there was too much) - this doesnt happpen nowadays i dont think as my mum works in a school and there they count the number of pupils eating school lunches and do not issue seconds

if its an onboard card (on the motherboard as a chip as opposed to being slot-in) then you disable it in the BIOS settings (hit f1 or del or whatever it tells you when you are booting up)

i believe its the fact that one can be more attacthed to devoting themselves to thier PC than thier partner - after all, pcs dont nag or complain or want you to buy expensive things (well, actually they do...)

jbennet 1,618 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

yes, all macs here in the uk (even the mini) - you get about 4 times less hardware for the same price

for the cost of a mini i could get a dell with a core 2 duo, 2gb ram and 19" TFT, and vista!

generally cards are easy

GROUND YOURSELF TO PREVENT STATIC FIRST

open case (MAKE SURE IS UNPLUGGED)

There should be slots on the motherboard where cards go. PCI slots are white (usually)

Remove the apparopriate silver blanking plate on the back of the pc with a screwdriver

slot in the card and screw in

reassemble pc

reboot

install driver software

10 mins maximin. easy as pie

i like the new partitioner

Oh yeah, in case anyone is wondering why VirtualPC sound doesnt work in vista its because vista got rid of all ISA support and VirtualPC emulates an ISA soundblaster card. Also of note is the fact virtualPC will not boot the vista image itself
