there is a pretty good post about it over on lifehacker (come back when you have finished there though).

they will probably work. Just make sure you get the right architecture (x64=64bit, x86=32bit).

We are of course presuming a driver issue, rather than a settings issue, here.

hotmatrixx 21 Posting Whiz

If the laptop was only for vista then why did 7 install then? dimsums the hardware ID - can you clarify? I looked up the BroadCom site and it describes a list list of drivers for their Ethernet NIC. Is this what you are talking about?

Thanks

to get the Hardware ID's, (Win7)
start menu

type in
Device Manager [enter]

go to network adapters, find your offending one,
rightclick - properties
Details (across the top)
pulldown menu to "Hardware Ids"

you will see:
PCI\VEN_XXXX&DEV_XXXX

the ven_xxxx is the vendor ID
the dev-xxxx is the device ID, you need both.

go to here

http://www.pcidatabase.com/index.php

and do some poking around in their search engines. It will tell you who actually made the thing. Then you can search from that information for the drivers.

All else fails, Post the
PCI\VEN_XXXX&DEV_XXXX

here and I will see if I can find them for you.

No worries. It is easy to do, kind -of.

the usual method is to remove all power to the computer, pull it apart and find a little battery - like one in the back of a watch. pull it out for ten minutes, reassemble, and the CMOS password is wiped.

Depending on the laptop, there may be a jumper switch you can cross under some panel somewhere under the laptop. you cross it, reboot, and it resets the BIOS.

Although some do say that Dell has made these features obsolete.
I did see this though:

Undocumented BIOS feature of Dell Latitude D600

If you are only looking for the BIOS feature: Alt+E, Alt+F will reset your BIOS of your Dell Latitude D600 laptop to factory settings. It might work for other types as well. There you have it. No need to read on, unless you want to know how inefficient Dell works.

There is nothing to indicate when these were pressed - whether during boot, or at the password screen, or whether a reboot ras required after, no more information that what I have given you here.

come back and let me know how you get on!

Windows 7 and I noticed that it is not the optimal speed hard drive, I think is the problem of SATA configured as RAID in BIOS and then the windows must be installed but pin sata driver put on master or slave as required. The fact is that I did not manage too many still seek a solution ..

Hey, I see you are new here.
Have a look at the date that the OP (Original Poster) had his problem. You can do this by looking at the info in the sidebar of the first post.

This thread is 5 years old. The guy either fixed his problem and never told us so, or he just gave up.

Besides, I am sorry to say that your translation into english makes almost no sense at all.

hopefully I think I can even translate it for you (in case someone else finds this thead while looking for help):

I noticed that Windows 7 reported that the Drive was not running at it's optimal speed.
i think the problem is that Sata must be configured as RAID in the BIOS and then have Windows installed. The Jumper pins on the SATA drive must also be set correctly.

I did not know this, but figured it out, and I hope it helps someone else.

I hope that I got that right. If not - oh well, I tried.

I don't suppose you have got another mouse? It sounds almost like a hardware issue to me.

hotmatrixx 21 Posting Whiz

I think your new computer is an HP/Compaq LAPTOP. Right?

If so, the problem is that you have to press the "Fn" key at the bottom left of your LAPTOP keyboard.
HP has some stupid setting so that pressing F5 actually "opens your default browser", and the other Fkeys do things like volume and screen brightness.

See the picture below, in the attachments.

You can disable this setting, Hewlett Packard actually has a link on their website, HERE That shows you how to do it.

I am reprinting it on this forum, in full, in case the link gets broken:

On most HP and Compaq notebook PCs, it is necessary to press and hold the function key (fn) while pressing one of the f1 through f12 keys to activate the default functions; such as, increasing or decreasing the brightness of the display, the sound volume, sleep, keyboard lock, etc. On the HP Envy notebooks and other notebooks with advanced BIOS options, the function keys can be configured so that it is not necessary to press and hold the fn key.

1 - Function Keys f1 through f12
2 - Configurable Function key fn

Disable fn in the BIOS
To disable, or enable, the function key (fn) in the BIOS, do the following steps.

  1. Press the power button to turn on the computer.
  2. Press the f10 key to open the BIOS setup window.
  3. Use the right-arrow or left-arrow keys to navigate …

DO NOT DO THIS!!!

It may further destroy any data - or at least, it may end up getting "lost". Explaining why is beyond the scope of this thread at the moment.

RULE 1:
STOP USING THE HDD:
everytime you use it, every single seek/access/read/write activity may be taking you further and further away from recovoering your data. DO NOTHING TO TRY AND 'REPAIR' IT! you may end up destroying the very things you are trying to save.

RULE 2:
Use another Harddrive/Computer:
plug your HDD into a computer so that you are not running the Operating System From that drive.

RULE 3:
Install Recovery Software to another HDD:
Why? see Rule 1 above.

RULE 4:
Save your results to a different drive:
Once you have got your results from your Recovery Software, save the results to another HDD
See Rule 1

NOTE: For simplicity, I am presuming the OP was the only owner of the computer. I am presuming that everything that I am writing below applies to the OP. If the OP "got this PC off someone else" then the blame lies with wherever the PC came from.

Either you have run a program to subvert the licencing, and then tried to enter a licence afterwards,
OR
The DVD of Win7/Vista that you used to install it with is not genuine, and whoever built that DVD it tried to "pre crack" windows.

I am guessing that you did an "upgrade" from Vista to Windows 7. I say this because the problem above would not have been fixed in an upgrade, only a new installation.

You may be able to fix this by re-initialising Windows Activation Technologies. I suggest that you re-run whatever tool that you used, and hope that it has an "uninstall the crack" option. If it does, then uninstall it, reboot, and try again with a GENUINE KEY that you actually own.
If it has an uninstall option, but says it is not installed, then install the crack, then uninstall the crack. This should hopefully undo any damage you may have done.

The best way to fix this would be to Re-install Win7 from sratch (fresh install), use a GENUINE DVD that you …

can you tell me the path that you took to get to your downloads? did you navigate from my computer -c:\-users... etc or did you use the start menu\username\sownloads, or do you have a shortcut to it somewhere, etc?

WARNING!!!

if you try this:
Do a FULL System Restore Backup Point RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!

there is a zip file below.

now. I want you to look for this file:

C:\Windows\system32\taskbarcpl.dll

does it exist?
if it doesn't, then that is your answer. It is included in the zip file I will attach in a minute. you may need to drop into safe mode (there are 10 million tutorials on how to do that, google is your friend, please) and then add this file to your C:\Windows\system32\ folder.

next to it are the reg keys that I found that seem relevant. They are all imported into one .reg file that you click on to import.

import that at your own risk.
It should reset the taskbar pin-to settings to default, try as a last resort, I guess.
will only work in safemode.

there is an image below that shows you the details of my copy of that .dll file:

right click on the file in YOUR C:\Windows\system32 and see if it matches (the dates will be different)

the filesize of mine is:
(win7 home prem x32)
228 KB (233,472 bytes)

if yours is different, there may be a problem. try copying mine over yours (in safe mode)

that is all I can think of at the moment.

please post back with your results!

how can i do sistem restore when i recover my computer,i use the windows...just the problem is that i can open some programs from the computer..

I am guessing that you mean that you can't get to system restore?

you can:

reboot the computer.
press F8 repeatedly until you get to a "safemode" window.
ask it to start in safe mode.
try and do some of those normal things (there won't be any internet, safemode disables the internet)come back and post whether it works or not.

when it disappears, does it produce an error message saying that it is closing? what is that message?

hotmatrixx 21 Posting Whiz

Heh. All of these suggestions.

Let's try and get back to basics and troubleshoot your issue, shall we:

I understand if the boss wants to "not allow exceptions". That is his prerogative. But with 500 computers, one would expect that he woudld just let the internal IT dept handle it.

so:
please, so that I know, and it may help, WHY won't he allow exceptions?

more importantly:

are all of these inside the same network? what I mean is are they all inside one physical building? or do people remote in from outside the LAN?

what type of firewall is implemented? software based, hardware based, or both?
does each PC run a firewall, or is there one big corporate one that filters all of the traffic?

how long have you used your current Remote software, and what others have you tried?
what is your position /role inside the company? I just have this feeling that you are not part of any IT support team, so I am asking.

What are you using the Remote desktop for?

do users need to be able to interact at the same time, or is this for one admin to make background changes, etc?

that should give me an idea of the next lot of questions that I need to ask you...

hotmatrixx 21 Posting Whiz

I am writing a program that fixes this right now. It is still in late alpha.
I hope you can open a .zip file?

I promise it has no malware, no ads. It is a simple script that runs in the command line. It drops in a temp file and runs completely from there - it only uses NATIVE WINDOWS stuff, and leaves no trace of itself when finished.

If it does not work, [lease let me know and I will upload an earlier, less elegant but more stable version.

please be gentle with me. it is not 100% completed yet, and you are the first person that I have ever shared this with.

you want the option "o". right now, it completes the operation then closes instead of going back to the menu. it is a tiny bug I will fix later, but you can use it right now instead of waiting 6 hours for me to find the problem and uploading another version for you.

please give me feedback!

(yes, I will create a gui for it one day)

hotmatrixx 21 Posting Whiz

OK, that sounds like something has played with the registry for you. I am going to have a play with my computer and I will see if I can replicate the error.

If I can replicate it, I can fix it...

bear with me please, I am listening to you!

hotmatrixx 21 Posting Whiz

please state your version of windows (xp, pro, vista, 7)?

Because it is happening in different browsers, it is not a problem with your browser. it is either

  • a global setting on your computer
  • another piece of software running on it that is blocking it
  • something external, like your Internet Service Provider (ISP-who you buy internet off) has blocked it.
  • if you are inside a network (especially a business one) they may have set up blocking on it. I cannot see why they would have blocked this though, unless they have a Whitelist (only allowed certain sites), but I am guessing that you are at home? This is quite possibly the most incorrect statement I've read in quite some time. Some of the best software I use on a regular basis is freeware.

How does freeware put your computer at risk?? Seriously?
-- Yeah, there is malware and adware involved with some freeware. But, there are a ton of great and clean free programs as well. So, a blanket statement that all are risky does a disservice for those readers of this thread that do not know better :)

I Concur:
and, funnily enough, most software that will cause problems actually "tells you that you need to buy it or your computer is at risk of stopping", then it hijacks your computer until you $$$ at it. This is called adware, or malware, depending on the circumstances and the changes the software can make.

Good ad ware might display an ad asking you to click a link. the ad is usually unobtrusive, and should never reduce the functionality of the computer - if it does, it is malware.

two good exsamples of adware (where ads are displayed to support develpoment) are FreeDownloadManager, FormatFactory. oh, and Lots of 'android' stuff does this too. Most malware advertises itself as antivirus or reg cleaners - and use scare tactics to make you buy. I wouldn't put money into anything that says "pay for this or else..."

most freeware out there is fine. Some of it …

Users are reporting that, following the introduction of the February 12 updates, Vista gets stuck at the finalization of the deployment of the updates displaying the message "Configuring Updates Stage 3 of 3 0% completes" and then entering an infinite reboot loop. And there is absolutely no way out for the end users, because canceling the configuration process of the updates is a move equivalent to losing access to the operating system entirely. This will even happen in Safe Mode.

Microsoft has yet to officially respond to the issue, or to provide a resolve or at least a workaround. However, it does seem at this point that there is an issue with the deployment of the pre-requisite updates necessary for the smooth installation of …
