Tis the season to be giving and if you have a business, it is very important to spread the love. So would you give your clients an virtual good or gift instead? Would you accept virtual gifts from a vendor?

Now that Bing is in the picture, will advertisers flock to advertise on Bing instead of Yahoo or even Google? Or is it too new to say?

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

Many businesses advertise on social media with the hopes of a higher CTR and sales. I can count in one hand the times I have clicked to a social ad on Facebook. What about you? How more likely are you to click than to a paid search keyword ad on Google?

I just read an article that stated Pepsi will invest on social media instead of advertising during the Super Bowl breaks. http://www.socialmediatoday.com/SMC/159401

Do you think more companies will follow Pepsi's footsteps?

I read a LinkedIn post with the same above title and some say Orkut. I say, Myspace. What do you say?

Whenever I am trying to assess the popularity of a topic, I may go to YouTube or Facebook to see if I find any user generated content on it. So other than using social media for this type of research, how else have you used it for gathering insights?

It now seems that there is a new app or tool on social media that will help resolve everyday's communication and issues. I have seen different communities rising up every day, especially when I read killer startup or silicon alley. So other than us still stuck brushing our teeth, what other activity has social media had no effect?

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

Almost all the businesses I know what to create a Facebook page but I do wonder, what happens next? Does the business actually measure the results of having the Facebook Page, both on Facebook and ROI seen through additional business transactions or sales?
Did the business use a third party app to measure results or was Facebook Insights enough?

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

I totally agree with you Marketing Rob. I have also been at events where everyone there is a social media "guru" or "visionary" and I felt I was the only non-Guru in the room.

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

I just read on a blog that Real CEOs dont send email holiday cards. As a CEO of my own company, I prefer to send gift packages but I do argue with the blogger that emails do take more than 3 seconds to create it.

So what do you think?

With the increase of smart phones, getting a mobile site for a business may be the next smart option. From a social media angle, having a mobile site may be more luring for the tweeters to view it on their smart phone. So when you are creating a mobile site, what other things do you keep in mind to make it more enticable for the Tweeters and FB updates?

I advise you to read through DaniWeb's sections - SEO and SEM and it will give you lots of resources and suggestions on how to market your new site. Good luck and prosper!

Yelp has a good and loyal client base (including yours truly). Google has tapped into this following and from a marketing standpoint, it will be a good segment to unleash pilot ad campaigns and market research. Let see...

I just read this blog and it makes total sense.

I personally prefer to be a social media scientist since I can link success of a social media campaign with real metrics and some type of metrics. What do you think?

Believe it or not, many visitors to YouTube or Myspace are actually tapping those sites to listen music. Yup, rather than going to Pandora or buying the song on iTunes, visitors are using YouTube as a music radio stop. I know I sometimes do it while I know some co-workers who often do this. So what do you think about this? Are you one of them?

Though Social Media is now an integral part of Internet Marketing, it is still emerging and evolving. Thus, some terms and measurement of social media marketing are still ambiguous and not really measurable. So I wonder if readers on this board have read or know of social media standards?

Influence Marketing.

I just read on this post - http://www.socialmediatoday.com/SMC/157376
that said that Social Media Marketing is not really capturing the true meaning and power of user generated content. So what do you think?

I just read this post on Social Media Today and I hope you all enjoy it.

The prediction that made me say, "Umm" was that SEO will fall out of favor. What do you think?

Thanks for sharing the link. For us internet marketers, these steps may seem commonsensical but they are necessary to assure community engagement.

As Im analyzing the performance of paid search on WebTrends, I noticed that all my paid search keywords are indicated as organic since none of them were tagged. So have you encountered this problem and what did you do to solve it? Help!

The issue is that there is already so much surveillance going on - both from the private and public sectors - that the main issue is data integration and dissemination. Look - Google is a main data depot.
To your point - Marketing Rob - if we go back to penmanship - it will hurt lots of people's eyes since I dont think younger generations have good handwriting.

I vote for TweetDeck

Back even a few years ago, people sent christmas cards. Now, including me, I have sent an e-card, happy text, or left a holiday greeting on social media communities. So what do you think? Are you a modern day happy holiday wisher or a traditionalist? Do you think that modern day wishing carries the same value as a christmas card?

Earlier last year, I researched on Web 3.0 and there was a wiki page stating that web 3.0 dealt with the integration of databases/BI/and semantics. But now it seems that web 3.0 may lead to some other form of technology, only time will tell.

There are so many bookmarking sites but you know what? I personally prefer the old fashion way - I just copy and paste it in a draft email on gmail and then if I need it I just go to that site. I have tried the other sites but this method works for me best.

Once upon a time, Myspace was the biggest and fastest growing social media online community and then it got too big for its britches. Where is Tom now? Facebook have learned the lessons from Myspace and has applied it well.

In today's age, monitoring your online reputation is a MUST. Employers and potential dates search online for your information - thus, if you can control some aspect of it- you will know what they will find

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

You know what, after I must have checked out at least 2 dozen social media monitoring tools, Radian6 might be the best thing out there afterall....

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

In todays age, it is important to monitor your reputation. I personally do it be running Google Alerts and searching on my name on google and various search engines. What about you? How do you monitor your online reputation?

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

Yes, there are countless number of social media tools but none were able to give me just the answer to:
1. how many threads on "topic a"
2. how many original posts on topic a?
3. how many responses on topic a?

Perhaps Radian6 can give me these metrics but I used other tools and it did not. It gives me an arbitrary score but it means nothing outside that tool. Does anyone know of any tool that can easily gives these metrics?

From a data perspective, I can just imagine a new dimension of data collected from Google's new offering.

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

There are two sides here:
1. Google is becoming the ultimate datawarehouse of digital behavior
2. People will either fight against Google or just swim with it and accept Google as the big mighty one.

I just read a nifty new project that Google is testing out - Google Goggles - you take a picture and ask Google what it is. I like the semantic aspect of it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6tT3JGV1iY&feature=player_embedded
I can just imagine the wealth of information and how this new tool can be incorporate to sites like this one to ask more technical questions.

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

As we know, Facebook and many other online sites collect our personal and site behavior for behavioral targeting. Think of it as free information exchange. So if Facebook or another online community you belong to allows you to opt out, would you do it?

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

I read on CNN - an article written by Mashable's Peter C - that one of his predictions for 2010 is word cloud becomes more prominent. Though I do see its relevance and standing, I dont see it as often as before on blogs and sites. Perhaps it is being incorporated on a back-end. What do you think? Have you used word cloud on the back end of your online community?

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

Companies value this type of data while the general consumer does not realize that they generate a wealth of actionable data points. I remember years ago I read that Yahoo not only stored your password but they have the right to use your password. It was in a tiny print but it raised my concern radar back then.

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

CNN just released an article written by Pete from Mashable in regards to the future of the web for 2010, similar to the topic of this thread. Basically, he mentions cloud technology and how there will be no more GPS devices.

For those who advertise on Facebook, has it worked for your business or has it helped bring higher sales/conversion?

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

Maybe but Google Wave is with invite only and I sure dont have an invite yet.

I have attended a few social media conferences where the following terms were also used to descrie social media:
influence, engagement, advocacy, sentiment, ROI, transparency, authentic and trust.
So what other words do you use to describe social media?

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

I totally agree. I did that a few years ago - shopping on Black Friday and I truly did not see any savings nor sales. I do actually see it the day before thanksgiving like at Loehmann's this year.

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

Very true just like many folded types of professions.

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

Very good point Marketing Rob.

There is all this fuss about Cyber Monday. The holiday itself was officially coined and in circulation by 2005 after the Retail Society reviewed previous year data. I know I shopped since I found a good deal on overstock but most of the other sites I visited, I did not see much deal. I thought it was only hype. So what do you think? Did you take advantage of these sales?

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

I noticed that my gmail login allows me to use other google appls and search engine but it also records everything. So an idea came to my mind - do you think that Google can easily search a user and generate a list of search terms the user have visited?

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

This is the christmas season and back in the day (even a few years ago), people wrote cards. Now, I dont even pick up a pen anymore. So what do you think? Does sending a "Happy holiday" on your facebook page suffices?

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

Technology have increased the reach of communication for both personal and professional reasons. Though, I would not like a new tool that will alert me of my tweets or facebook updates while at the bathroom.
