I think macgurl70 has great suggestions, but I am wondering if W1ND0W5 was trying to say that his sister b/f has an airport extreme time capsule combination device. If that is the case it sounds like a set up problem. So W1ND0W5 how is the hard drive for capsule connected?

Doing some at some snooping of how others are using your computer?
There is a log and it is rather easy to find. If you go to applications->utilities->console. Once there you can see a log list on the left side and then under log files there should be system.log
once you found that you need to look for the transfer time. I will warn it does not keep a log for eternity. I find the easiest way of looking for the event your looking for is do a search for "/Volume". Every time that comes up should be an event with the description of "getting new uuid:"
now you have a time an external drive was plugged in. Next, get rid of the search criteria and go to that time to see the logs after it. Then in the system log any events after that that are labeled "Exited: Terminated" in the log will mark a transfer of a file. I dont how, if you can, to pull the name of the file

I am sorry for the slowness of my replies. I only have one computer and each time I read a post it takes me several hours to preform the Scan. I did not post GMER log one because it was blank. and dds.src is marked as AutoCad file on my system and will only open the text to be edited which is all giberish.
As for GMER I re-downloaded it and ran it again. Again the log one was blank and log two came up with this

I am not so sure that my OS is the problem here. I was able to run plenty of heavy CPU programs(Autodesk 3dsMax, Inventor, AutoCad) with Vista at the begging and then still I am able to do that but with less multitasking and a longer start up time. I am only a intermediate experience computer user, but I know enough to know that svchost.exe(DcomLaunch)should not spend 5 minutes averaging using 30 percent of my 4 2.40 Ghz processor cores

So I have Vista Ultimate running on my HP Pavilion Notebook which I know has multiple problems on it.
I have run Microsoft® Windows® Malicious Software Removal Tool and ATF Cleaner, and then a GMER scan and a Hijack This.
I am trying to better understand what you look for in virus log, so if you find anything I would appreciate if you would point out what you see in the log.
Thank you so much for any help you can provide

Hi there! I excitedly got a refurbished Linksys WRT54GS2 V1 router. I am fairly well experienced in software and got a little over confident with my router, and now have some how turned it into a pricy paper weight. I followed an internet guide to put VxWorksKiller-GS2V1.bin firmware from dd-wrt.com onto the router. The first step worked fine until it came to restarting the router. then it went terrible. The site(dd-wrt.com) for the firmware recommended that it may not restart on its own but once the router had given the installation complete page cycling the power would work fine. I did that and I totally lost the router. the router has a power light and lights up a connection when I plug the ethernet into the computer. However, my computer(running Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit) is not able to pull up the routers ip. I try opening an internet browser and going to 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.0.1 but nothing comes up. The reset button does nothing, and the wireless is totally disabled. Please help me find my router settings!!!!

No need. Mac is nice enough to do defragmenting in the background while you are working. I find it less rewording then watching windows show me how much space is being freed up. For clean up those run on there own as well, if you need something to do it on command, macjanitor will do it. however, your mac will do it on its own at night. If you want something more immediate, firfox and safari have options to clear there caches and cookies

check out opensourcemac.org, it has a whole bunch of great free software including links to where to get gimp and seashore. I personally love seashore.

I think that is a website problem. What I imagine is happening is that the website assumes that you are trying to send something like 010+1 = 11 where the zero out in front is unnecessary

mesamb1 0 Junior Poster

Can you be a little more specific about what you are trying to do?

mesamb1 0 Junior Poster

You should be grateful. you have been spared countless times of having to listen to that sound.

mesamb1 0 Junior Poster

As a general practice, have you cleared your caches and cookies to make sure you dont have something that is keeping you from viewing the video? that may be why it only effects your own blog

I know what the screen means. I do believe that you are right and it is telling you to put double a bateries into your mouse. I have had some similar messages on my iMac. I believe that when the computer is unable to find I mouse it is default set to assume that you are using a bluetooth mouse. However obviously that is not the case.
Why though where you trying to install a dvd from the iBook? it has been a while since I have used my clamshell, but I am pretty sure it had a dvd drive

Try going into system preferances and display, check and see if it is recognizing the projector as a second screen.

mesamb1 0 Junior Poster

I had a powerbook that I loved to death, literally, and eventually some of the keys did start to stick. Check and see if you are not hitting something like enter or backspace and acidently not causing the backslash to stick

mesamb1 0 Junior Poster

control clicks are a good thing to try, but more likely there is an option in the preferance panel of the outlook program to allow you to change that. If not, i would search on your hard drive and see if there is a place where the links are stored and then manually delete them. best of luck!

Hey there, I am running into a problem with a program called system security which is going crazy on a friends Gateway laptop running Vista. I am in college and I am pretty awesome a trouble shooting mac computer problems so I have become, unfortuantly, the go to guy for all of my friends system troubles.
This makes the second time that I have run into problems with system security. I am asked to help because this program starts shooting up security warnings left and right and claims the computer has ten different viruses on it. I am wondering is this a just a bad security program or is this computer really in that dire need of salvation

I am trying to write a simple php program that will up load files smaller then 200000000 bytes to my website, but I keep getting an error when I try to run it
the initial HTML code is:

    <html>
<body>

<form action="upload.php" method="post"
enctype="multipart/form-data">
<label for="file">Filename:</label>
<input type="file" name="file" id="file" />
<br />
<input type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit" />
</form>

</body>
</html>

and then the following is the php code:

<?php
if (($_FILES["file"]["size"] < 200000000))
 {
    if ($FILES["file"]["error"] > 0)
        {
        echo "Return Code: " . $_FILES["file"] ["error"] . "<br />";
        }
    else
        {
        $Size = ($_FILES["files"]["size"]/ 1024);
        if ($Size > 1000)
            {
            $Size= $Size/1000;
            $type = "Mb";
            }
        else
            {
            $type= "Kb";
            }

        echo "Upload: " . $_FILES["file"]["name"] . "<br />";
        echo "Type: " . $_FILES["file"]["type"] . "<br />";
        echo "Size: " . $Size . " " . $type . "<br />";
        echo "Temp file: " . $_FILES["file"]["tmp_name"] . "<br />";
        if (file_exists("stuff/" . $_FILES["file"] ["name"] ))
            {
            echo $_FILES["file"]["name"] . " already exist. ";
            }
        else
            {

            move_uploaded_file($_FILES["file"]["tmp_name"], "upload/" . $_FILES["file"]["name"]);
            echo "Stored in: " . "stuff/" . $_FILES["file"] ["name"];
            }
        }
    }
else
    {
    header("Location: http://www.doled.org/upload/uhuh.html");
    }
?>

which when I run on line gives me the error
"Upload: balloon08.gif

I am new to PHP and I am trying to create an application for a friend with a good sense of humor, the app takes quotes and randimly loads one when the page is loaded. I had no idea how to do it so I took some coading for a blackjack shuffle program and pluged in what i wanted. It worked for a little while and then I tried to add some more quotes and got an error that I cant explain. the code looks like it is right but I keep getting the error:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_VARIABLE in
/home/.aspen/mesamb1/sultanofmirth.com/every/quotes.php on line 142

line 142 is

$face = array_rand($names) ;

I hope some one know what my problem is!
here is all of my program:

<?php

$names["that kneeds to be looked at!"] = "1";
$names["Thanks, Abhit! Support from viewers like you would help create more humor you know"] ="1";

This is trouble some. have you tried to reinstall Mac OS X? am I safe to assume that your hardware is all standared? If you feel comfterable with it, now I am not sure about the new iBooks can do this as easy as the older ones, but take a look inside and make sure non of your hardware is loose.

mesamb1 0 Junior Poster

I think this is the right step for apple. now you can put a mac up against a PC to see the differences and they avoid more problems by publishing a version of it. in responce to goldeagle2005 I can easily see microsoft veleasing a VirtualPC just for that after getting Vista out

mesamb1 0 Junior Poster

Some times the simples sollution is the best. Have you tried restarting the airport? I have an older airport and it looses the printer sometimes and I just have to restart it

mesamb1 0 Junior Poster

i think this is the site bobthecar is talking about http://www.killdisk.com/downloadfree.htm
personally i dont think you need to earse the hard drive.

mesamb1 0 Junior Poster

I would check to see if there are any updates on the scanner's company website. sometimes the software you have can go out of date and needs an update to fix this error

mesamb1 0 Junior Poster

I only hope that was intended for me as well ;)

mesamb1 0 Junior Poster

To make your self a real simple first web site i would recomend playing with microsoft word and then saving what you create as html. later i found it was a good way to learn about html structures by looking at the source of what i created in word

mesamb1 0 Junior Poster

If you want to do the simpler rout you could use the html code [<embed allowScriptAccess="never" allowNetworking="internal" enableJavaScript="false" allowScriptAccess="never" allowNetworking="internal" src="song website link to mp3" autostart="true" loop="false" width=325 height=20>] to play it using a simple player

mesamb1 0 Junior Poster

if it has no instructions and no cd, I would recomend pluging it in and seeing is windows does recognize it as a removoable harddrive and then just load the music to that

mesamb1 0 Junior Poster

I hope this link helps. The intel macs are my favorite and the list of things that they can do is amazing. luckly for you the built in fax modem may do the trick :) I hope you are lucky enough to have one http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303266

all right for starters i have had to date worked closley with five macs and it pretty much is not the end of the world. the official explanation is that your start up disk can not go through the proper sequances to load. or in other turns your computer has lost its self and you need to help it find itself. Now it sounds really dumb i admitt, but i have mac support behind me hear always try something multiple times. If you stick in the panther disk two or three times restarting in between one of the times you do it the problem should ironically fix its self. then the next step if you can get this to happen is to install using the option archive and install this as it should read when you do this keep your hard-drive intact. you do have to reinstall the panther that was the right instinict. now my question for you is do you have a laptop or access to one and a firewire cable? macs have the ingenious idea to allow their whole computers to function as bulky firewire drives and by connecting the two you have a good shot at loading your HD on the other computer as though your HD is the firewire drive and transefer files. and dont discount restarting as a healing remedy!

I am brand new to the world of java and was working on a tutorial from the java website. I was feeling all cool writing my code and getting it and then when i tried to compile a bycycle program i got a error message reading:

so then i went to the Copiler error thingy and got alot og code
