What information stored in the BIOS is retained after the battery is removed?

the default info ,the info that the bios chip maker put in and the added info from the board maker,if the bios password was added by the end user, it will be gone after the battery was removed for awhile

Hello,

I have a TravelMate 2410, and the power on password got messed up. Someone tried accessing the unit and screwed it up. It boots up fine, but can't pass "go". Figuring if I access CMOS and drain the battery, that would lose the information and I would be OK to power on and reset again. Question is how do I find the CMOS battery in this unit. I figured I should stop prior to taking the unit apart. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Lance,

download manual ans it will show you how to take apart the laptop and remove baterry .

on a clone drive does fixmbr work or would it be rendered useless as it warns????

that warning is standard on any install of windows when attempting a fixmbr

The battery works fine. charges completely.

if it works perfectly this wouldn't happen .

We take out the battery, plug in the power cord to the laptop then the wall. In that order and it starts but if we unplug the cord from the laptop it instantly crashes

do you put the battery back in after plugging it to the wall outlet

Just take a can of air to everything and re-seat all cables/connections?

thats a start ,if you have 2 ram chips ,remove one and try computer ,if problem persist ,remove that one and try the other ,,see what happens .aldo you could download and create a bootable disk of memtest86 and boot computer to the cdrom and run the test ,best left overnight to check ram correctly .
http://www.memtest86.com/
check free download ,and get windows version ,iso for creating boot cd

Can't access folders (D: or DVD) after sleep/hibernate. The error is:
D:\<Folder Name> is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted or unreadable.

All normal after restart.

try logging off and back on , instead of restart ,not a fix but quicker if it works

So far I have no complaints about Win 7 other than I'm having problems getting my wireless adapter to connect to the interweb! It shows my SSID but is limited or unable to connect. Had no problems with it with XP. Any suggestions?

make sure you are using the win7 driver or at best the vista driver for the device ,go to the device manufacturer site and search for best driver

the holes dont line up quite right requiring you to snip some of the mesh off the back for the plug and switch (but they do work fine)

my second drive is a 160 gig ,it was partitioned in 2 equal parts ,i only got the extend option in the first partition after i formatted the 2nd partition,it had available about 40 gigs to extend the first partition but would not do that ,i had to move data and format it first .

With vista and Win7 do actually have to upgrade with the upgrade version unless you use the trick to upgrade the trial (which is frowned upon)

i own 2 vista ultimate upgrade disk ,legit ,bought from the microsoft ,i install both on a new hdd,no previsions OS installed .used the process i described above ! they work fine, one is on my daughters laptop and one on my wifes pc

when we block a website through our browser Tools->Internet
option->privacy->sites than what process happens which prevent the site being not opened next time.

assuming than= then , you type in[or copy paste ] the address of site ,what happens then is when that site tries to open , it will be blocked by IE ,quite simple

My understanding of the "Upgrade" licensing was that one didn't have to actually take the upgrade install option (ie, installing Win7 over the previous Windows installation), but simply that one has a legal key/serial for said Windows installation. It appears that is not the case.
.

you could do a full install with a vista upgrade disk, you simply ran the install and when asked to put in the key you could chose to install with out using the key, and after the install was complete ,you would put the dvd in the drive and it would auto boot an ask if you wanted to upgrade and you say yes and walla! it would run the upgrade !

i think they fixted that with win7 as it never game me the option to install with out the key !

and you can't upgrade from winxp to win7 ,so thats not an option anyway

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

most people will buy an upgrade license .

not if they wanted to do a dual boot with winxp

If you're just curious as to whether it's possible, you've got your answer. However, it's not worth the time or money to do it.

anyone know what the s stands for in pc2-6400s, i have a laptop with 2x1gig marked s ,and i wanted to upgrade so i got the shop to order me a 2gig stick ,but it doesn't have the S , i installed it ,seems to be working ok,but didn't make any difference between the 2gig and running at 3 gig .is the S a important factor ,thinking maybe it just for sodim, the s chip is samsung ,the 2 gig i bought is kingston.will eventually get another kingston to make it an exact match

and yes Bob i did google it 10 different ways , ,one forum poster actually said it was singular and plural !

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

If you have done a full back-up through 7s "Back-up and Restore" under "Maintenance", is that an image of your hard drive and by using the boot disk it will give you access to that image and thereby allow the image to be copied back to the drive to the state it was when the image was taken? Or is it just a backup program like "Shadow copy"?

its usually done by going into the bios/setup, and change in boot order
