Probably you can as long as you buy a Notebook card, but you should ask before buying, there should be an empty slot, no?

some laptops may have this option ,but not the one this poster has , they would need to replace the motherboard, and that will not even be an option because Dell doesn't offer a board with the nvida chip-set ,just ATI for this model laptop

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

just found similar ? asked on the Dell forum ,and the answer is as i suspected .sorry .
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3519/t/19370918.aspx

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

hi,laptop video chips are in usually not replaceable [not easily anyway ]especially from one brand to another, ati to nvida.they are factory soldered to the motherboard .i read about some laptops that have a chip that plugs; in so they are changeable.this is usually when it a laptop built specifically for gaming
having said that you would really need to check it out with Dell

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

I finally had to reinstall windows.

good that you got it working ,i have a question though ,did you ever get to run the"chkdsk /r" , i suggested first

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

This thread does not talk about vista, by including vista in your post you are hijacking the thread. It is only about winxp and win7, no vista!!

me thinks your being a little picky .lol

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

hi,i haven't done this myself but yes it is possible, the ssd has same connection type as a sada2,i think its suggested that you install the ssd ,then install the OS of choice, then install the sataII 1.5.

i think the biggest problem might be in how you accidentally installed the second winxp .did you accidentally create second partition for the second xp ,if not the linux will wipe bot winxp installs from the drive if you try to install it

For me computing is divided into three, Administration, Gaming, Other things. If you are for Administration you go with Linux ( which i know is not part of this thread ), if you are for Gaming you go with Win XP ( it will leave the much needed resources for your games ), then if you are for the other things, you go with Win 7.

sounds' about right ,i guess that why i use/enjoy win7

I have a 3 yr old Compaq laptop ,Im on my computer for hours at a time ,I have win7 ultimate duel booting 32 bit and 64 bit just to try out the 6 bit ,[ it runs slower actually ] ,i have virtual pc running winxp mode [rarely use it though ] and I use Firefox and IE9 as my browsers ,i;am always installing programs/drivers /manuals and such from the net on it all the time ,just to look at to try and help people on this forum and other forums having problems with said programs .Cant remember the last time i had windows tell me it performed a "illegal action and need to close ", bsod whats that ,I think a lot of the problems people have with computer is cause from where they surf and where they download music and movies from people say Vista it no good ,never used it myself but
My wife uses Windows Vista ,2 yrs and now same install, she once left it run for 6 weeks steady downloading[80 gig file ] a TV show, all the while using the laptop for here daily use,not a hiccup the whole time , and she watches TV on it ,getting hard to find a good site for that now ,last night she got the Vista Security trojan looking for a new tv site ,she used ALT+ctrl+del to stop it ,ccleaner to empty the tempfiles and registry entry's and its gone before it got a …

caperjack is right. . . I am to blame. New posters don't realize the protocol. It is like cutting in line, or interrupting a conversation. Even though the symptoms are similar, the problem may not be the same. A thread should be focused on one posters problem, and carried to its logical conclusion. That way, readers can follow the logic of the troubleshooting process. In this case the original poster seems to be missing in action, and should close the thread, or let us know what the status is... I apologize for not guiding the new poster to start a new thread. . . MY BAD!!

CU in other threads.

don't be too hard on yourself ,we /I do it to ,my post really was made because of the attitude of the person you were helping !keep up the good work

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

in safe mode ,go to mycomputer ,right click on the hard drive icon/go properties/tools/click on to open error check , and check of the 2 boxes, click ok ,it will likely tell you cant check the volume now and to restart computer, it should then check the hard drive . good luck

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Well, if i should post all the informations i already posted for newcomers to the thread it would be awfully long. For the same reason we should make a new thread you should read the rest of it to understand my problem.

For my problem, i installed a wireless card and its working. I'll assume even if my card was working fine (proved by the tests you made me do in the rest of the thread) It's somehow busted, the other computers on my network and wires work fine, i tested them all. If its not busted then i assume its a problem with window 7. Anyway, thanks for all the help you gave me. Life goes on.

well for starters you never should have hijacked this thread ,you are not the original poster ,and techsheave should have told you to start a thread of your own when you first posted ,he/she never should have started helping you in this thread ,it makes it too confusing for all, including you

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

well in the specs for this board
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138078
it uses a lga 775 connection a core 2 duo procressor it can support a 1066 FSB witch my processor is can support my type of ram up to 4 GB it sounds like a perfect fit to me but i'm no expert.

thats the same board you mentioned in your first post ,and i searched it and post a link to it specs ,your cpu is not in the list ,i already posted the link that shows your cpu is not listed .it only goes to e6700 2.66 ghz, not e6750 3.06ghz like yours
check it again here ,

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

this one should work ,gigabyte brand is a good board ,your cpu is listed ,it takes ddr2 ram up to 1066.this from gigabyte site ,now you just need to find one for sale somewhere '
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2693#

one for sale here .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

nope ,in the other thread he said he has ddr2 ram

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

hi ,im no expert ,but my google search shows it does not support you processor.and im not sure that a cpu has a north and south bridge, but i dont think it does ,that on the motherboard and if im correct i think one control the cpu and the other controls the cpu ,to technical for me to remember all i have read over the years .

the board here ,click on cpu support and you will no see yours in the list .
http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/content.php?S_ID=173

here is what i suggest ,go to a local computer retail outlet ,tell them what cpu and ram type you have and see what they have to match it or can get for you to match it, don't buy it but take the info and search online for it

I have sufficient space in Disk D and E. but my Disk space of C drive is getting low, I tried to extend from Disk management ,but could not suceed, can anyone help me with it? I dont wanna reboot it again.

are d and e separate hard drives or just partitions of C:/

are we to assume that by reboot you mean re-install the operating system ,as in computer terms reboot simply means to shut down the computer and reboot it

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Just remember to extend one partition, you have decrease the size of another partition to make space on the hhd. Then disk management will work.

and thats the simplest and easiest way to do it, do it all the time with mine ,and no need for third party tools ,that I'm sure work great too.

I was looking at the too, but the OP said it booted to BIOS.

tape enterprise

no looking to start a fight but ,all they said about the bios was they reset it ,usually means they used the jumpers on the MB,also it been said nothing shows on the screen.

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

wonder if the cpu is even compatible with that board ,not sure if its even in the list supplied by intel
http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d945plrn/sb/CS-026634.htm

also is that 300w psu new or older used one ,does it even have a 4pin p4 plug

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Yea, i just got a pair of tweasers last night and bent everything that looked out of place lol.

so did that make it work again

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

computer doesn't need to boot the ram to show something[boot screen] the monitor.did you make sure to connect the 4 pin power plug in the upper right corner ,if using 2 sticks of rm did you try one at a time

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

don't see it s an issue, its normal .Microsoft is making sure all programs are shutdown running when installing updates,3rd party programs running when installing updates was the cause of a lot of the issues that people were having after installing updated in winxp and vista ,call it a bit of a fix if you will.you could change the way windows updates runs ,just do the updated when you know you have plenty of time to wait for them to be installed
my opinion of you issue. happy computing

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Have you tried going to recent items to see the recent applications you opened?

they likely know what applications they were using ,they would like to be-able to simply click on something and instantly start them all up the way it was when it crashed

Did you mean the hack. The one that you type a lot of commands and letter that one?

this is what i found ,for changing it with out the os dvd .

You need to enter terminal and create a new admin account:

1. Reboot
2. Hold apple key + s key down after you hear the chime. (command + s on newer Macs)
3. When you get text prompt enter in these terminal commands to create a brand new admin account (hitting return after each line):

mount -uw /
rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
shutdown -h now

4. After rebooting you should have a brand new admin account. When you login as the new admin you can simply delete the old one and your good to go again!

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

i will see if i can install it on a cpu that i know isn't good enough

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

perhaps you could borrow one from a friend,or someone else will post an alternative here.
