I disconnected the hard drive . the dvd drive .the power, reseated the memory ,reset cmos and nothing changes. When i press f2 it goes into the set up but the key board responds to nothing else not even F8 or F12
not sure, i have had computer that had problem with keyboard, try booting with out he keyboard and mouse installed
Nope, the address book is empty.
i no longer have outlook 2003 installed , but a googlr search found this info ,what i was talking about a few post back.
In Outlook you can shut the "suggestions" function off at Tools>Options>E-Mail Options>Advanced E-Mail Options. Deselect "Suggest names while completing To,Cc and Bcc fields". To have Outlook autofill, type in the fewest needed characters, hit your space key and then hit enter.
I prefer to just click the "To" button in Outlook when composing a new message, select the name and click OK instead.
yeah he gave me a key with it,but theres no sound and i need graphic driver 2 so i can play football manager 09 .i know it raedon but cant remember what series.

Due to bad sectors or many other problems i have lost my important data
free and basic file recovery tools are not going to be of much help with recovering files from bad /damaged sectors.!!just my opinion
.i have tried almost very thing
realy we need more info that that ,whats the point in us telling you somethiong to try and you comping back and saying , no tried that !
did you try removing the ram and reinstalling them someties a move can loosing them .is it a laptop ,im not up on all the names of dell computer to know what one is pc and what one is laptop
Right,
Got my new PC last week, and yesterday i got my copy of WindowsXP 64-bit Edition Upgrade (the trial one). I currently have WinXP Professional.
what trial one!
the winxp 64 still needs to axcess you harddrive to install ,thats why it needs the sata drivers .it dosn't know yet that a copy of xp excist on the hdd!
hi, I assume you can edit a registry entry somewhere not sure where ,but you can easily disable the option in tools/options on outlook toolbar
Call MS and explain to them the issue. Your hard drive died, you had to replace it and reinstall XP and now your key for that machine comes up not valid for activation. As long as you have all info from the sticker in case they ask, MS will most likely give you another key. I've done it a few times a couple years ago, same situation. They gave me a new key over the phone, no-charge.
Be calm, polite and act dumb.Hope this helps
Don
not the same thing, this poster cant even get winxp to install because he's using a dell disk on a ibm machine ,and the dell disk will not accept his key to continue with the install .
Dell disks are like that !
is it possible to hook up my pc to my laptop and be able to run my pc from it? ie, be able to see my pc desktop from the laptop and run programs from it.
the answer to that is, no.
I think there is some internal problem of printer and for that you have to checked it by the technician of printer or you have to change it with new one.
welcome to daniweb, you poster to a thread that is almost 5 yrs old .please check the date before posting ,,lots of new posters looking for your help, if you want to help others ,good luck
The tools drop down box got jammed there for a few minutes!
.
hi,sounds like you have other problems ,not sure what as you say you ran virus scan ,download ATF cleaner from Atribune and clean all to get rid of temp file s-it,just google atf cleaner ,
also check computer for dust inside ,and clean with compressed air or vacum, clean paint brush ,3 of the things i use!
Wish I lived in Canada!
But you can see the dilemma - that 100 Euro could go off a new machine, rather than going down the tube if the old one costs too much to fix and the 100 Euro has to be forfeited.
yeah ,but like bob says in above post ,you could hook it to a friends or neighbors monitor and see if it still has video.
and not all shops here are as cheap as the one i mentions ,a lot of them over charge !
Many thanks.
Yeah, it is very costly.
Toshiba said it could cost between 150 and 300 Euro.
They would take the initial service charge off that, but it would still be very expensive.
I could get a newer machine with higher specs for around 399 now, but I really like the current machine and have used it day in and day out for nearly 4 years.
Wish I could get it fixed at a reasonable price.
That might be possible if it is just the cable.
But I have to commit the 100 Euro just to find out.
And if I decide not to proceed because of the cost then the 100 Euro is gone.
yeah lot of money for sure ,i live in canada ,and fix computer in my spare time .reload window and much more for about 35$ cdn
,and local shop near me,where i help out , would take your laptop and try hooking it to a pc monitor and if it worked tell you that you needed a new lcd ,[they are not into fixing laptop hardware ,except ram and hdd]if you were a regular customer of theirs they would not charge you for the diagnostic ,or maybe charge you 10 or 20 dollars
this will not fix the not closing when you clickon hte x ,but it will /should close the box.
open firefox and go to tools /option and on the main scree check off close the box .see attachment
start hitting f8 as soon as you turn on the computer, you may be missing it when you wait
What??? you dont make any sense.
i have been reading post all day ,that make little or no sense to me just mumbo jumbo!,must be a new thing .lol
Thanks caperjack.
It does look like it is cable or backlight according to most people.
Any repair shop I have tried wants 100 Euro - non refundable - just to look at it, here in Dublin.
It might be too costly to repair.
I don't own a monitor.
yeah it is a costly repair ,and new/used lcd can cost 150.00 us or more on e-bay and even more if you buy it from the maker of the laptop.
wouldn't touch that attachment with a ten foot pole .

I have dos based instant artist and want to install it on win xp but it dosen't install. Is there any solution to this problem?
talkright_pk
hi, try compatibility, its found by right clicking on the exe of the dos program ,so you would need to be in the directory of the dos program ,like if it on a floppy then open the floppy in mycomputer ,and right click on the exe ,go to the compatibility and chose dos from the dropdown
repair network connection, can be found by right clicking on the network icon down by the clock ,chose repair ,if thats not there ,then in network connections ,in control panel ,and right click on the icon for the conection ,chose repair
no power, purchase new power chord, but still no lights.
Hi, not a lot of info , what lead you to a bad power cord ,maybe a bad power jack, thats where the cord plugs in, did you try booting without the battery in .
This is a first post, and I hope that it is in the right place.
My Toshiba XP Laptop no longer lights up.
Info is there and is working, but almost impossible to see.
Got it working a few times by quickly opening and shutting the lid, but no longer works.
Anyone know what the problem is or what it should cost.
I am in Dublin.
Thanks.
sounds like the lcd monitor is gone ,or back lite if it has one ,reall you need to take or send it for repair ,hard to tell from here what it really is ,have you tried hooking it to a PC monitor
BIOS battery died had to re install windows xp home.
all you had to do was install new battery and set bios defaults and fix the time /date ! never heard of having to reinstall windows for that reason.
cmedia sound drivers if you know correct model #
http://www.cmedia.com.tw/drivers.html
Perhaps you could try a linux live CD.
- Let us know how it goes.
yup, i suggested that to so many posters ,but most never try it ,and it could save days of trying to fix a windows hardware problem that is actuall a software problem ,i even have a link in my signature for one .go for it, you will be susprised when it works !or doesn't work ,at least then you know you have a HardWare issue
instead of update try a download then install .

hi, i think a really good recovery program is needed for recovering data in corrupt sectors/clusters, spinrite recovers the data and marks sectors so no data will be wrtten to them ,it depending on hdd size it can take days to run it fully ,it boots to the cd [worth it cost ] ,so windows isn't running .http://www.grc.com/spinrite.htm
Touché,
yes but morning here...
it's morning here now .lol, 7am right now

Hi,this inf omight help
Using the HDD Recovery System
Your Advent computer uses the latest recovery system that doesn't require any CDs or DVDs to restore your PC to it's original factory condition.
* There are two ways to start the recovery -
o Restart your computer. Then Press F10 repeatedly until the message "Starting System Recovery" is displayed.
o In Windows by clicking: Start / All Programs / System Recovery / System Recovery.
* The recovery will load and display a box with one option:
o Non-destructive recovery: this option will restore Windows, supplied applications, and drivers. This option will not destroy your documents or programs. These will be backed up along with the registry. These are restored at the end of the recovery process.
To access the recovery options below that erase all data from the computer, click the Advanced button.
o System Recovery - No format: this will reinstall Windows, supplied applications and drivers. It will move your files to a folder called "My old disk structure". Any applications (except those supplied) will need to be reinstalled.
o System Recovery - Quick format: this option will erase your hard drive including your personal files. Windows, supplied applications and drivers will be reinstalled.
* Select the Non-destructive recovery option and press Next.
* You will be informed about System Restore in Windows, click Yes.
* The recovery will begin. Once this is complete click Restart.

i say both of you stat putt ,and stop fighting ,and just giving good answers .

thanks for the reply;
i did the chkdsk /r
and did it say if it found and fixed any errors
and rebooted in safe mode but i'm back to the same blue screen..
and did you try to boot to regular mode .
what should i do now?..
thanks
it could be a bad hardrive ,if its a desktop computer try opening the case and unplugging cable to hdd and cdrom and then plugging them back in , remove tower fro wall plug first
Machine built brand new 10/23/09. Never had another OS. AVG antivirus found nothing.
new build doesent mean a thing ,the new parts could be a frew yrs old tech wise ,local shop here still sell old ram and harddrive and motherboard to people not in the know ,even still selling, avg video cards to people like me!lol
. i assume you tried to run it with some of the ram out ,like if it has 2x2 gig ,remove one and try it ! if no difference try it with the other one
Thanks, Caperjack.....problem solved!
your welcome
XP mode (Virtualisation) on windows 7, you need to download the files for this ,also a tool to see if it will work on your win7
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx
will not work on mine ,only a p4 cpu
i would go the "R" route but would type chkdsk /r, not fixboot, space between k and /
Thanks. I'm not an expert with computers, so how do I reinstall .NET framework?
