Personally , since LMDE only requires 512 MB of RAM ( 1GB to run comfortably ) as I have read here > http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2809 ,
I would only upgrade the SSD and let it fly. You'll be impressed ! I was and at the time I only had 2GB Ram and a 320 GB HDD and it was fast than .

Well, six years ago my nephew wanted to join the Army . I knew where he would be going if he did.
I suggested that he takes test in from other branches of service as well and he did.
My nephew ended up testing very high in cyber security with the Air Force and is loving it.
He's been to Korea twice, he's spent time on the Horn of Africa and now is in Oklohoma .
He plans on making a career out of the Air Force and is really going up in pay grade.
I was in the Army from 1972 to 1975 and will always look back fondly on that tour but I'm glad my nephew tested out with other branches and ended up where he did.

@ AssertNull , Along the top header on the right side , next to the search bar there is a blue box. Click on it and under Community Center , you will see Area 51

It's not that simple though ,
I commented that I lied my way through the whole process while messing with a Linux distro.
The reason I lied is because I am not a pro and most of the questions didn't pertain to me .
Two of the boxes I simply typed in " HUH " and the drop down options don't have a retired crane operator answer to check off.
I'm simply a noob that enjoys these forums and really do learn a lot.
Is there no room for a noob like me ?

As far as I know , you can only have one internet connection open at a time.

I see this happen to folks that use some registry cleaners .
These cleaners destroy restore points and other things.
Sorry you have no back up , I hope in the future you will .
I'm thinking now you should contact the maker of the computer to see if you can purchase the restore media.

Well, we don't have voodoo or anything to tell us what make or model of this laptop ( I'm assuming some Windows OS) so you leave us to guess .
I would ask if you have tried plugging your laptop into an external monitor to see if anything displays.
On another note I might see if some Linux distro displays on the laptop monitor.

I'm guessing you did not revert back to Windows 7 but you did a clean install , correct ?
If that's true , you'll have to set Outlook back up again .
If you reverted back to Windows 7 than it may be in a windows.old file ?

This is a prime example of why we back up everything we can't afford to lose.
I learned that from a friend

Thought I'd give it a go and let you hear from a noob about the speed of Chrome with this forum .
It's blazing fast here . Much faster here than on other forums / sites I go to actually .
Chrome Version 51.0.2704.106 m
Home built Win 10 desktop .

Are you saying that you have 2 computers ?
One connected to wifi that can connect to the internet and one connected via ethernet cable that won't connect ?
If so , have you tried a different ethernet cable.

Your'e shy on details so I can only guess whats going on .

Well, I cleared my history on FF and than went to log in here @ DANIWEB and couldn't but was asked if I wanted to try another way and logged into Dazah with my Gmail account and here I am .

Hope this helps

The 2 HDD's with Win 7 and 10 on them wouldn't happen to be OEM operating systems from another computer would they ?
Your'e not giving us a chance to help you by not telling us anything about this computer .

Itsdigger 18 Light Poster

Noob luck ?
I had no problems with anything ,
I clicked on the DANIWEB bookmark and logged in automatically as usual

Have you read what Kapersky suggests here >

In one sentence you say
"you can run the Hiren's Boot CD with no problem and it doesn't lose signal or shuts down" ,

In another you say

" Same happened when I try to boot from a USB device or DVD, so I can't format it, but I had the possibility to use other HDD with a clean install of Windows 10, same happens unfortunately."

Since you can boot the Hiren's Boot CD with no problem I have to wonder why you can't boot the Windows DVD unless the Windows DVD isn't bootable.
I would try a different Linux distro to prove a point .

deceptikon is correct that the offer disappears in a month but, I removed the windows.old files manually to regain around 30 GB on my HDD.

I guess this noob was wrong. I do remember doing that on vlc now. It sounded distorted though while cranked up.
That's how I ended up with a nice little HiFiMan amplifier.

Itsdigger 18 Light Poster

No ,
The computer or whatever device you're using only puts out as much volume as it has.
You would need some type of amplifier

Itsdigger 18 Light Poster

Ahhh ! This makes much more sense to me now that I know you have Broadband and the laptop tells you there's a problem with the Network Adapter .
Well... Bob will get ya up and running . He's a Pro

Itsdigger 18 Light Poster

Did you cycle the modem ?
1) turn off the laptop
2) unplug the modem from power source
3) wait 60 seconds
4) plug modem back in
5) wait for the modem to fully boot
6) restart the laptop
This updates the modem...

Itsdigger 18 Light Poster

Can you do a System Restore to a point before the problem started ?

Itsdigger 18 Light Poster

I have never heard of booting XP without a boot disc but I know folks have made a bootable usb flash drive and just leave it in the usb port .
I can't imagine why someone would still want to use XP as it's no longer supported and hard to find drivers .
It's wide open to trojans and viruses.
Personally I would keep running a linux of your choice. Maybe put it on a flash drive and save the HDD for storage .

Itsdigger 18 Light Poster

This sounds weird to me for some reason.
The only time this happened to me is when I changed motherboards and had an OEM OS . If the OS is OEM , it becomes dead as it's embedded into the MB.
I've changed GPU's , Ram and HDD's without this happening.
The other times I've seen this occur is if the OS is some hack or torrent.

Itsdigger 18 Light Poster

I'm thinking you need to have full Administrator rights to do this. Are you the Administrator ?

Itsdigger 18 Light Poster

Well, I'm still a noob but I don't think even the most experienced among us would be able to help you with this issue as you have'nt given any info on the computer, operating system, or the applications you are referring to.

I can say that if the computer has a slow HDD , apps will be slow to open and you may consider installing a new fast SSD as they are so inexpensive now.

Itsdigger 18 Light Poster

Did you get Windows 10 through Windows Update ?
If so, Windows creates a windows.old file that has the old OS plus the files that allows you to roll back to the previous OS.
If you don't intend to roll back, you can run "Disk Cleanup" and remove these files , I regained over 15 GB by doing this.

Itsdigger 18 Light Poster

Since Kali is based on Debian Wheezy , you can get anything for Kali from the Debian repository.
I'd suggest you get a fair size flashdrive ( I have a 16 GB) and install Debian on it and set up Persistence and not on your HDD just in case Debian doesn't live up to your expectations.

Itsdigger 18 Light Poster

That's not quite right for the Generic Reset.
Shut the laptop down
unplug the brick from laptop and everything connected to USB
remove the battery
press and hold the power button down for 60 seconds
reolace battery and power supply
start the laptop and see how it goes...
