You mean that the computer doesnt start when you push the start button ... and there's nothing to see on the monitor ????

How did you remove java ?? and from where are you installing java again ??

I tried to reboot the computer in safe mode, but the black screen and white loading bar still appears.

There is no loading bar when you boot into safe mode ....

while booting keep tapping F8 and you'll end up with a menu .... select Safe boot from there (or you could even try normal mode too) ... if it doesnt help ... try using last known good configuration from the menu.

I dont suspect a virus here but you should try out the options given in my previous post.

Make sure your screen saver isn't kicking you out of full-screen mode. Also, turning of the Enable full-screen mode switch feature might solve the problem. In Windows Media Player 9 Series or later, do the following:
On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Performance tab.
Click Advanced.
Clear the Enable full-screen mode switch check box.

An average of about 2 hours or so.

Microsoft jvm is not available in xp sp2.

Reinstall java runtime environment..

You can go to www.java.com and download the java runtime environment from there ...

I had the same problem once but it disappeared suddenly as it came .... try turning off your firewall and then try again....

When you sign in to your hotmail account always check "Always ask for my e-mail address and password" ... and always signout before closing the browser.

Does you system logon and then restarts ??? or restarts without logging on .... if latter is the case then try using last known good configuration ....

I dont think there's any problem in using msconfig in windows 2000 ... I've been using it for a long time now and I had no problems whatsoever.

I use Leechget .. its free n effective. Flashget is also known to be a good manager ...

Among the paid ones ... I like Internet download manager and Internet download accelerator.

There is no msconfig in windows 2000 ... but you can download it ... from here :

try running sfc /scannow ... it'll check the integrity of the system files.

I dont think it'll need active directory ... just write gpedit.msc on run command and you'll see the local group policy editor which has all that you need.

Its majorly a windows software problem so I'm moving it in the windows software forum so that you can get a more appropriate advice.

Are you using Adobe Acrobat professional to create the pdf files? which version? Try repairing the program.

Press F8 during boot to boot into safe mode. How many hard drives have you installed in your pc? Are you accessing the c drive in your administrative account? Are there any local computer policies which are restricting the use of c and d drives?

All these can be done in the group policy editor ... you need not smack your head in the windows registry ... just use gpedit.msc and you'll fine all of these.

Are you using any kinda firewalls ?? some firewalls allow stealth mode browsing .. so the websites cant see what version of browser or OS are you running ... check for that.

When you see the welcome screen ... press ctrl alt del two times ... it will switch to classic mode ... write your username and password ... you'll then be able to logon and correct your problems.

Make sure that all the playback controls are unmuted.

Try checking AGC again.

Which icons are you talking about ?? My computer, My documents etc. ?? if your windows is xp .. then just right click desktop ... properties ... desktop ... customize desktop ... and check the icons you want on your desktop.

start a new task named explorer.exe ...

Press ctrl-alt-del --> new task --> write explorer.exe and see if your desktop comes back ...

Just right click on any grey area infront of the menus (help menu being the last) and check address bar .. the address bar will become visible.
