Well crucial is actually scanning your system, while the Pc World people are total morons, no offense to any here, but the ones i know of don't know what CPU stands for! Also the PC world guy may have meant 1Gb per slot, not overall.
If it could be a virus/spyware try AVG's versions of these, they really are very good, found lots that norton doesn't pick up!

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

well for graphics, more onboard RAM the better, performance may go to the 7950 seeing as it is overclocked, but you will get a lower life expectancy out of it. They really are quite similar. Go for the one that has DirectX 10 compatibility, seeing as all games/software will need it sooner or later, if they both come with DirectX 10 compatible, then go for the 8600, because it will last longer!

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

They are all good options, but the 7950GT isn't DirectX 10 compatible according to the sites i've looked at. The more V-RAM they have, the better graphics you can experience.
It is really up to you, in someones opinion one may be better than the other, but in the end ask people with these cards to see how they like/dislike them. I have an ATI Radeon X1600XT, so i am slightly bias towards ATI because i know and trust the company. It really is down to you!

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

If you are running a lot of programs, or a couple of heavy RAM draining softwares, such as games with a music player, you will need at least 1Gb of RAM in total so 512Mb per slot.
Check on Cruical technologies site if you are thinking of upgrading your RAM.
Crucial techs computer dignostic tool can be found here: http://crucial.com/systemscanner/loader.aspx?Agree=Yes
Simply click on the download box, then double click the icon that you have downloaded, and the program will check your system and display what your system currently has, and can cope with if you choose to upgrade. You must be online to carry out this check.

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

How much RAM do you have?
As fren said, you may have a faulty stick, or you may not have enough.

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

Well what are you looking for out of the two?
are you looking for cost or gaming experience?
Are you looking to stick with DiectX 9 or move up to version 10 with the new card?
Also have you considered ATI gfx cards, there is a lot of choice out there.
The 7950GT is the lower cost, yet if you get the Overclocked version you get 512Mb of VRAM on the gfx card compared to only 256Mb on the 8600GTS. But if you are wanting the DirectX 10 experience it would be best to get a good card now such as the 8600GTS, or even if you feel like shelling out for something else that has up to 768Mb then you will always have a brilliant gfx card, but because vista is very new the cost of these cards is extremly high, so wait for a while and watch the prices fall a bit if you want to go for a high end card.
Otherwise, go for the 7950GT for the cost option, and the 8600GTS for DirectX 10.

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

right, how much RAM does your computer have?

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

no , chedder all the way :p

Have you ever been surfing (on water not on the internet :P )?

Sulley's Boo commented: yummy! me agrees ^,^ +3

Straight talking person.

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

Follow this -> Start -> run -> msconfig (press enter) -> untick any programs which don't relate to windows or have C://windows/... as there location, definatly will increase start up speed, may speed up general surfing.

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

Well ATi offer this: http://shop.ati.com/product.asp?sku=2797004&section_id=8#MyGearSection

Nvidia offer this: http://www.nvidia.com/object/graphics_cards_buy_now.html
click onto any of the 'buy now' buttons to view what is available.

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

Well if they want to kill inocent people because 'god' or whoever is their 'spiritual leader' that's their decision. But if they were true followers of their religion would people not stop murdering, and killing, and declaring wars, and general stupid behaviour. If the so called 'followers' actually were active religious followers, we wouldn't have the trouble we have now.

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

lol , i find AVG a nice little side program working away silently, unlike norton which acts like a sponge on my RAM!

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

According to my dad, who uses lotus notes atm, he would rather have outlook anyday of the week!
He thinks lotus notes is a useless waste of space, i do as well when i used it on his comp recently, so fiddly compared to the easyness of Outlook.
Go for outlook everytime!

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

What you could try, is to download the free version of AVG anti-virus, run their scan to see if you get anything, if AVG won't find it not much else will!
You can find it here:
http://free.grisoft.com
Download the free version, install it and run their system scan.
Otherwise you could try reinstalling norton and seing if the popup continues.

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

Your motherboard producer obviously didn't care to help you out there!
Good luck with your new gfx card!
Post any future problems, and we will hope to sort them out!

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

Has anyone actually bothered to read my post, it's like i am being ignored here!
Post #1262 if anyone actually cares....

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

Well my 'faith' i use the term extremly loosly, is that physics will one day prove religion to be created by man for man. Just because someone had a faith and wanted to broadcast it among his fellow men, so that ehy would all be in on this whole ever growing sect by the name of christianity, i mean just look at the conquests, Christians killing others, now i don't see that printed in the bible, do you?

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

Not always the case, mine is a black slot and has PCI Express x16 printed alongside it.
So seeing as yours only says PCI Express, i don't think it is x16 speed.
Check with a computer expert shop and they will advise you further.

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

Just from historical records, we can't prove the existence of a god, because he is only mentioned in the bible, but of course there were civilisations before the bible was made, so thereforth is 'god' a scarab beetle?

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

Can we agree to disagree.
You can't prove that a God exists.
We can't prove the beginning of the universe.

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

Run an anti-virus / anti-spyware scan to de-clutter your computer of any nasties.
Run a disc defragmentation to slightly speed up your computer, this will take between 4 -> 8 hours to complete and don't run any other programs while it is working.
Also install the latest drivers for the Graphics card, if you have one.
Also what Audio/Media player do you use?
If it isn't Windows Media Player 11 or iTunes/Quick Time player, then i would consider getting WMP 11.
Also, how much RAM do you have?
This can be found by:
Control Panel -> System -> and it is shown on the bottom left of the smaller window.

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

Makes me smile :) :)

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

But there can't be a 'real' Christian, that's like asking for someone that is perfect, no one is perfect, like there are no 'real' Christians, because each country has a slightly different way that they do things. Therefore there would be a true, proper, real Christian which each country would have to diplomatically argue over, to who was this 'real' Christian.

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

Well going back to a points system, do like football/soccer does in where you have 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw, 0 for a loss.

@ Nichito
Well we could but down all of our Yahoo (if we use their chess service) names on a big list so that we know who is who, put it as a new thread in the coffee house.

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

Well, it all depends on your mind, if you believe in a being capable of creating the earth in 6 days (resting on the 7th remember :P), being able to create mass swarms of locusts, giving people the power to part water, etc. That's your opinion. And you are entitled to it. But trying to convert others, or like that bizarre American family which protest at soldiers funerals because they think what the American soldiers are doing is satanic, is a step to far. But at least there are very few of them....

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

Well if it was PCI-E x16 it would have the x 16 written there, so best bet is that you only have standard PCI express.
It really is a case of try it and see! If you can go into your local tech store, or if you are going to buy this in a shop, you could bring your computer with you and ask them to try it in your machine, just to make sure it works. I'm sure they will be happy to help you.

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

A new guy, lets see what they can come up with, we wait in wonder...

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

have you tried this:
Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Hardware Tab (Pick the one that relates to audio, I use Realtek so that's what mine says).
Click on properties for the one you selected, click onto the Drivers tab, and choose 'update driver' , then follow the on-screen instructions.

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

Can we just get back to the fact that in most cases religion doesn't help you. Praying to something that we don't even know exists is rather pointless in my opinion, that time could be much better spent.

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

Well the easiest way that i know of, is to look at your motherboard next to the slot in question.
To the side in small black writing it should say if it is PCI Express x16 or not.

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

Do you connect your microphone through the pink jack or is it a USB Mic?

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

Ruddy hell, that looks great, what else is in there besides a church?

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

Well i am not of the opinion that churches sap cash from the visitors grasps with the collection tray (If that exists still) , but you can see why people believe that churches are rich because they have all the nice stained glass windows, gold items and the such, but if people donate it is up to them, and if they don't well that's their thoughts.

Also people pray in their own way, they don't necessarily want to be with a load of other people, because they may not be social with them. So what. If a place builds a church, so what where the money comes from, it came from somewhere, but who really cares. Apart form the government, but that's a different argument for a different day.

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

You could try vista if you wanted a fairly cheapish way of fixing it, i believe it can support the amount of RAM that you are wanting to use.

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

Has he had a virus/Spyware infection recently?
If so that may be causing his problems, tell him to run a scan using whatever anti-virus software he has.

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

Sorry i can't spell :P
My bad on that part

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

You need to be the system administrator to be able to change those settings.
The path i get to the Automatic Updates is:
Start -> Control Panel -> Security Centre -> Automatic updates -> then pick your option. I am the system administrator so i can see all of the options.

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

Well if the universe is 45 odd billion years old, that means that the 'creators' time scale means that one of their years means 6.43 billion of ours. If even the 'creator' is a living thing....

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

no, pier pressure is pressure from your friends (also referred to as piers in England) and pressure is forcing them to do it, like smoking or believing in something.

edit: go back a page hollystyles :P

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

How do you know?
This is the most talked about topic, can we prove evolution? Maybe. Can we prove the existence of an almighty being that created the earth in 7 days? mmm tricky that one.

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

Are you sure that it is the correct type of RAM?
Also check to see that they are properly seated into the ports, also check that the contacts are not smudged, use a pencil eraser to whip off any muck which may hinder the contacts.

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

Exactly lasher, you choose what you believe in and what you do, of course there always is pier pressure...

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

Nope :P
They aren't at all!
Which is good! Also just for interest, i am using Norton 2006 updated to 2007 internet security.

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

How much space are you using on it at the moment? Out of how much?
Also try a disk cleanup -> Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Cleanup.
May help clog out your PC.

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

Well i am still going to stick with Norton, even though it has been a right little bugger of a program recently, and i also run AVG Anti-Virus as well as AVG Anti-Spyware, which i find to be a great little program, no fuss compared to the delight of Norton. In case Norton misses it, AVG is there to back it up. :P
Thanks for all suggestions.

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

normally most computers have a sticker stuck on the front of your tower (or horizontal one) that has everything that your computer has in it, such as the amount of RAM (e.g. 512Mb) CPU clock speed (e.g. 3.2GHz) and so on.
If you open up the control panel (Start button -> Settings -> Control Panel)
Then put it into classic view (If you already have it in classic view ignore this bit) by clicking on the blue words to the left 'Switch to Classic View'.
Now look for the icon that has 'System' written under it (computer with a tick in the monitor) double click that.
Now it should come up with the main 'System Properties' tab. On this menu it has all of the information about your computer.
Copy down all the information underneath the text of:
"Manufactured and Supported by:"
Then jot down everything written there
It should be like this in presentation: (parts in brackets tell you what each bit is)
eMachines (Computer Manufacturer)
8240 (Make)
Intel R (CPU chip type)
Pentium R 4CPU 3.20GHz (Type of CPU and clock speed)
3.20GHz , 2.00GB of RAM (Clock speed and amount of RAM)

Hope this helps.

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

Well you could do like the World Cup does it, in where you have a mini league of 5 people playing each other once, then top 2 proceed into what we had this time around with final 16 -> quarter final -> Semi Final -> 3rd place -> Final

Serunson 413 Posting Maven

Well a BSOD points to either graphics card or RAM. What is your graphics card? And how much RAM do you have?
