How have I not seen this until now?? Nice product caperjack, I love the hotswap feature!! Thank you for letting me in on this one!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

You can't reinstall without A disk, but it doesn't have to be YOUR disk, if you have a friend with a windows disk it should work as long as it's the same version (should be the OEM version). Be very careful though, if you're wrong about the version you wont know the key isn't right until you're too late.

If I remember correctly, recent gateway laptops have a restore partition, there's a key combination to hit at start up (you'd have to check out the gateway support site if it doesn't flash on screen when you start-up) that allows you to restore the system to factory defaults.

Oly is right on this one (well, depending on how new it is), simply tap your F8 button when you start your computer, and you will trigger a menu that will allow you to complete certain tasks. Usually you can select the auto fix option, and it should take care of most of the problems by itself (a neat feature for gateway computers--again if new enough), if not, there is a resore option, which will also back up your current files to a partition, but then you will have to manually recover them. Good luck!

>Ohh by the way I'm new so heya
Hi, and welcome.

>Waving your hands shouting "crazy scientists are going to destroy us all" is not quite the same as thoughtful speculation.
Nothing I said about thoughtfulness. And yes, it is all speculation. Like the end is near, or the world is going to end in December 21th 2012.

Aia,

Are you typing with a lisp? *December 21th*

Just pointed that out to lighten up the thread...........lol........But on a serious note Aia, I love your eloquence.

Anyway, it seems that we usually fear the unknown, but overcoming that fear is what brings us to where we are now. Everything is as it should be (on our progression as humans), and I believe that God allows us to know and discover certain things when we are supposed to......so we will see how it goes!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

Holy Crap!! I work on too many computers.....I think........I forgot, when I loaded vista, I also created a partition to make sure I have a back up..anyway, got it up and running, so thanks for the help!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

I am curious to know what this bad boy can do.....but perhaps the results could be disappointing, perhaps not.......I am just in awe of the structure, the power consuption, and what it could lead to...still extremely entertaining to me, and scary all at the same time!!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

do you have the current drivers downloaded for your audio package?? If the software is changing the settings, maybe try updating or redownloading them.......just another idea to try!! Good luck!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

Just a quick attempt....do you have an outside audio control button on you computer?? People sometimes overlook it!!!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

Just curious if anyone else here has been interested in the LHC........pretty crazy stuff if you ask me!! I am just not sure of the stability, or outcome of these tests...... black holes scare me!!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

Hello All.....

It has finally happened......vista will not load, and none of the "quick fixes" will work. Does anyone know of any location I can download a boot program that will work for vista? The only thing that is gonna work is running a fixboot or fixmbr.....but I need a boot disk to do this...unless anyone else has any suggestions.

Just so everyone knows, nothing loads at all......i cannot run in safe mode, safe mode with networking, last known good config, etc, etc.....

I do not want to take the time to have one shipped to me, and could use some immediate suggestions.....TIA!!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

The Dude,

I must give you thumbs up again sir, NICE MATERIAL. I did not care much for the oija board thing however.......to much control to the girls that had the board. It also seemed a little rehearsed to me. I did however like the others!! Post more if you see any worthy!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

have you checked your settings in the game itself? I have found that some games will not automatically adjust to your system settings, and it may be trying to run on higher settings than your system will allow......not sure if this solves your issue, but it might be worth checking out!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

Where are these?

If you go to the Trend Micro website, you can access their free online tool named "house call". It is a good one to run......Norton 360 is a bought software set, and do a search online for a registry cleaner or fixer, and you can choose which one is best for you. Let me know if you have any questions.....Have a great day!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

It said 'your a real pro'...................i grabbed 550ft!

(need i mention after several tries.....)

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

Did it change your desktop telling you to 'click here to remove virus'.....that is the one I battled for a while. I ran norton 360, then trend micro house call to finally be rid of it. But is sounds like the same thing....you might also need to run reg cure, or reg fixer afterward.....good luck!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

I think your first task on thinking about projectors is what you are wanting to spend........ranging from $300 (USD) to $3500, is a large gap.....if you are only watching movies on them, just find one with decent specs to meet your needs.......one that projects 1080I is a good start. You will also need to consider your lighting levels in the area you are going to use the projector in. If you are in high light, you will want a projector that emits lots of lumens....low light you can go with lower projection. Let me know what you needs are, and I will recommend one for you!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

I remember Ghost Busters and Mario Bros. used to be some of my favorites. That brings back some strange and funny memories.....thanks!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

Well that is a new one to me......i laughed so hard it took me five minutes to get through it!! Seriously funny to me, but hey, I have absolutely been through the S.H.I.T. at my job! Kudos ~S.O.S.~ you have made my day! Thanks!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

You might try removing the battery from your MOBO, say at least a few minutes (and of coarse while everything is powered down), and then replace it. Other than that, the only thing I can think of is maybe resetting your power supply (if you have a tiny reset button on it). Other than that, I am not sure, since it is happening with both harddrives now. Let me know what you come up with!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

Have you tried simply mapping the drives to each computer?

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

You may need to fix your master boot record (MBR). if you have an xp install disk, boot with this disk, run the recovery console (or if you hit F10 to run the recovery console you might be able to get there), and do a fixmbr...........if you do not know how to do this, let me know and I will post the detailed process! Good luck to you!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

Did you download service pack 3 for xp? If you did not, try completely uninstalling your flash (via add/remove programs), and then do a reinstall. If you did download the sp3, let me know, and I will try and find out what your issue is. It happened to me on my laptop after I downloaded sp3. Let me know!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

One of the simplest ways is to do a file and system transfer (with the wizard). go to Start>all programs>accessories>system tools>files and settings transfer wizard. You will create a cd, and after you have reinstalled, you will use the cd to complete the transfer. There is a tutorial to help if you need it....good luck!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

That would pretty much sum up the worst day ever........LMAO, Can anyone top that?

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

Perhaps I can help you understand a bit more...

HiJack This is a data log that tech savvy individuals use to diagnose issues with your PC. Spyware and other nasties can be spotted using hijack this, but it is not a 'curing' solution to your issue. Also, posting in the proper thread can get you a ton more results ;) You might try reposting in the 'web browsers' forum. Good luck to you on your issue!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

I luv pokerstars!! It is a great time waster for those insomniatic (if that is even a real word) type of nights! I stick with the play money version though ;)

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

For me it is simple (perhaps simple because I have used the same organizing technique since college.....), I estimate the maximum project time, and then I will add 5% more time to that for incidentals. I then plan on my calendar when I can accomplish said task, and carry out my planned days. If someone contracts me to do a networking job, because of the organization, I can give them exactly when I can do it, and sometimes I can even get to them early...becasue of that 5% cushion! And when you get to a job "early", people like that :)

I hope this helps answer your question, I was not quite sure what you were looking for.

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

Ok, so i finally figured it out. I shut down the main server (vision), which caused Eagle to promote itself. After the promotion took place, I restarted vision, and it ironed out all of the kinks on its own.....not sure why this worked but it did! I am just glad to have had a workable solution!!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

Are you sure you do not have a graphics card?? Perhaps you have an on-board graphics card/chipset.

It also sounds like you need to do some control testing, to try and perhaps pinpoint the problem...Try plugging your computer into a different monitor, or tv (if you have the proper hookups), if it works, then you know it is your monitor. You might also try reseating your cables. Another thing to try is to unplug your computer and monitor, wait five minutes, and plug it back in....Hit us back with how you fair!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

There is (sometimes) a quality difference with brands.....but to see the difference, you have to look at information about the TV's that a normal person would not. Refresh rates, lumens and other such items a regular joe would not look for are some areas to start checking into. I do find that big brand names do not always have the best models, but you have to look at those details.........Some of the top brands I like are, VIZIO, Mitsubishi, and sony. Some brands like emerson, vieta, and westinghouse are brands that i tend to shy from. Good luck, and let me know if I can help! It's always a pleasure chatting with you RAJ!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

You could try some control testing to find out what the problem is. Unplug your hub and try plugging in your flash drives directly. If they save 100% of your data, then the issue is more than likely with the hub.

By the way, what is 20000?

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

Hi Robyncr

If you can get into your microsoft windows recovery console, try running fixboot or fixmbr (MBR Master Boot Record). If you are unaware on how to get to your recovery console, try this

boot from cd with your original xp disk, and press 'r'
when it asks you what windows installation you would like to logon to press '1'

you should see another screen pop-up that looks like you should type something in.....type 'help' if you would like to see all of the commands, after that you can type 'fixboot' or 'fixmbr' it will ask you to verify this process, afterward type 'exit' and it should reboot your system.

Note: this is for if you have already have xp installed and still get the error.....

A missing NTLDR file error is actually quite common, but can caused by several different reasons...this solution is the one I use most of the time, but it could require a different fix....let me know how things go! Cheers!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

Ok, sorry for my confusion.......if you open your case, do you have any id's of any sort inside your case? While you are in there, check to see if you have a graphics card, or onboard graphics card.....also get your MoBo information. If you are able to identify these, you can cross reference for your drivers...

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

. I have the display running from my RAM and do not use a graphics card.QUOTE]

Expain your system a little better. What do you have, what OS are you using, general specs.....after you post this, the DaniWeb community might be able to help you out a bit more....cheers!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

have you tried going to support at the nvidia website? You should be able to download the most current drivers there, but it does look like you could use an upgrade.........

You are not gonna get the eyecandy that a person is after when playing these games with your current card. And, if your card is that old, how old is the rest of your system? Perhaps it is time to dump some money into a new system...good luck to you!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

Which zen is it? There a few models.....but if you can get to the battery, try removing it for about two minutes and then reinstall it. If that does not work, look in your manual for the reset code. I think if you hold the on button while you remove your battery, and then hold the on button while you put the battery back in, that might work.....but it depends on your model. Let me know which one you have, and we will check it out for you!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

Okay, I will give you my thoughts....cuz I am a TV junkie.....but mainly for video games (xbox 360-cpu; okay I love movies as well...lol). Anyway, I have had both...and my thoughts for the winner is absolutely the LCD. I bought a 50" plasma, only to die out within two years of purchase (of coarse a few months after the factory warranty expired :( ). I currently have two LCD widescreen tv's and they work like a charm. I do suggest getting the full 1080 on anything bigger than a 36". If you are going with anything 36 and under, 720 will output quality just fine. And along with your purchase, if you are into movies at all........DO get a blu-ray player.....it will blow your mind how crisp the picture quality is. Good luck in your quest!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

Do a search by serial number. If you look on the bottom panel of your laptop, it should provide a model number or serial number from which you can search (either google it or go to your IBM website and search it). This will help you determine which one you have. Good luck to you!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

Ok, so the issue still plauges me. I have tried some control testing, and here is what I have done. I plugged in a laptop to the same connections that will not connect to eagle, and it will not connect. If I connect it to a line that will connect to eagle, it will still let me. I have looked through event viewer, and have found some issues. It tells me this:

Remove the source domain controllers metadata with ntdsutil.exe

I am not that familiar with this process, but I am quite sure that if it is done incorrectly, I could lose my active directory, or alltogether, my OS. Does anyone here have any additional ideas?? IM DESPERATE FOR HELP

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

Was the phone turned on when it took a bath? If not, there might be some hope, but it also depends on how bad the phone took the splash.........My sister dropped a blackjack2 in the sink with a little water, but it was off. We also let it completely dry. We put the phone in a plastic baggie, then stuck the baggie (while open) in a bowl with an airtight lid. We filled the bowl with rice (to draw the moisure out of the phone) and her phone works fine now. So I think it all depends on how wet the phone got....of course the radiator method probably did not help the phone..Good luck!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

Okay, so I thought the issue was solved but it is not......I have been out of the office for a while, and I am still having the issue. Any help would be great!!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

a few simple things to try.....

check your network card and see if you have a link light......

open command prompt and see if you can ping local machines and outside addresses.....

Also, let us know if you are on a network, or if this is a home pc, or how you are connected.

If you are on a home network, try unplugging your router or modem to refresh settings. Let us know some more details, and we will look into it.

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

Brenbobdog,

There are probably dozens of people here on DaniWeb that would like to help you. Unfortunately, you have not provided nearly enough infomation to get a helpful response....Some of the things you will need to add in your next post is what type of operating system you have, and EXACTLY what the error messages are saying. With this particular information, people will know how to help you diagnose your issue. I hope this helps, and good luck!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

After a little bit of investigation, the user that this was happening to had two active log-ons with laptops, and a desktop pc. For anyone who might run into this issue, I logged the user off of all of the computers, refreshed active directory, and logged the user back in with no trouble.

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

I have been getting the "Windows needs your credentials" balloon in the systray. This is what I have already tried,

Run GPEDIT.MSC. Under computer configuration, expand administrative templates>system>logon. Select the "Always wait for the network at computer startup" value. The default state is "not configured". Set this to "On".

but to no avail. Anyone have any other suggestions?----Windows XPPro

I've had some bad days but I dont think any of my were as bad as some of yours!

Unless, you count when I got hit by a car when I was 5 but I dont remember much about that so I dont think it counts lol

OF COURSE IT COUNTS WHEN YOU WERE HIT BY A CAR!!! How many people can say that they have been hit by a car? That must have been a pretty bad day!

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

On a lighter note, I just noticed that I have 210 posts (will be 211 with this one)!! It is good to know that I am on my way to being a Whiz!! LOL

I was 25 when she died, and I only spent about four years of my life knowing who she was. I also lost my father when I was 10. I only was with him for 2 years before he passed away. It seems as though I have been a stronger person having to go through the situations I did, and I am happy with the results. I am 28 now, and I have children of my own. Growing up the way my life has taken me has helped me make sure that my kids stay well taken care of. They are the greatest joys in my life (6 year old son, 3 year old daughter), and I have to credit my life history which has allowed me the strength and wizdom to be an awesome dad!

So, The Dude, while it is indeed sad to have lost my parent's, please do not be sorry for my losses (trying to say that with utmost respect and sincerity to your kindness). I believe there is a plan for my life, and what happens is absolutely supposed to according to that plan. I love my life, and I love my kids. Again thank you for your kindness! :)

I always wanted to know this;

Where does space end, and if it does not end, where does it go?

To add to my previous post; If space is around "us", what is around space?

I gotta quit thinking about this, I am getting a headache.....

itdupuis 19 Posting Whiz

to add to Oly's post, if you are unable to use another PC for this, take your drives to your local computer store, or something like a Best Buy. As long as the drives not corrupted, they will extract the files for you (A small fee of about $50-$75 USD will apply). So I just wanted to add this idea as an option. Good luck to you!
