This is now something we might see if some site is not maintained. You contact the web master and ask them to fix it.

The second reason could be trying to use a very old version of Firefox on say Windows XP. You left out what Firefox version so do try it on a current smartphone and PC that is up to date.

If this is your first foray into data recovery, it's best to send it to data recovery shops.

Any do-it-yourself or recovery apps are never a sure thing. You can try RECUVA but sometimes folk balk that it doesn't FIX the drive. No data recovery app should write to said drive. It should only recover or copy files out. Writing to a damaged drive is too dangerous.
If you feel RECUVA wasn't good enough feel free to Google "Recuva Alternatives." For me if Recuva doesn't do the job, the drive is sent to a recovery house.

Think of the unicycle, one wheel, hard to avoid a crash. Bicycle is much better and the tricycle almost everyone can ride without trouble. The same for storage drives. Google 321 BACKUP and yup, 3 copies or you may not have your data for long. A single copy is prone to loss. Even a second drive with the copies would have saved you.

Not all can do this.
Google this: "How to check a website if it can act as HTTP proxy server or not?"
Read this: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/httpd/ProxyAbuse which covers that server and how it is configured.

Time to retire VB6. Move to something current. Just 2 days ago I nabbed two copies of Visual Studio Pro for 50USD each. Why 2? Office needed more licenses.

VB6 does have limited resources so you will run out on heavy operations.
Read https://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?902295-how-create-DIB-s too.

Read https://stackoverflow.com/questions/742671/tools-to-identify-memory-hogs-in-vb6-applications about tools to use for find memory hogs and a nice function to see if your app is releasing resources correctly.

"There is the thing, our company is an electronic components distributor, and we don't produce components."

The more we looked into the failures, the more we found that the supply chain was at fault. We don't accept that the distributor bore no fault. After documenting the issues as best we could, all this was turned over to our legal department and suits filed. Suppliers and manufacturers eventually paid the damages.

While I see the discussion at https://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?902072-how-use-CreateThread()-with-parameters appears to have solved this I will share an old workaround I used decades ago.

It was decades ago and the API was limited so I put the parameters into a file that the new thread would read and act on. It worked and as such never had to solve this on, at the time Windows 3.1. Sometime in early 2000 another OS and limitation so I did that again. Better to meet delivery dates than fret about a bodge.

If you research this, there have been zero such upgrades reported. Example: https://www.daniweb.com/hardware-and-software/hardware/threads/360437/intel-core-2-quad-on-acer-extensa-4630z

About all you can do is be sure the HDD has been replaced with SSD and if you can do it free or cheap, max out the RAM. This Core2 CPU is woefully out of date for most of users today.
My advice is to leave it be and save the money for a new laptop. This one is so old I expect it to fail unexpectedly without notice.

As to the files, we only lose what we don't backup. Our Kindles get their files from the Amazon cloud so when we reset, we don't lose any files because they are on the Amazon cloud.

  1. Fix your ReviewMyLink site. Firefox balked and said: "Your connection is not private
Attackers might be trying to steal your information from www.reviewmylink.com (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards).

    NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID"

  2. Add your other website to your DANIWEB tagline.

  3. "Users:1,382" is quite low. I went to that site and see no reason to return. I do however look at imgur.com daily. You need to add a survey or hold a focus group about that site. I decline to offer more about that site.

While I've used ImageMagick over a decade ago, I didn't use it from PHP.
So I suggest you work this with a MVE (minimal viable example.)

That is, start with working code and change ONE LINE. No more.
Then share that line and the new line so I can see if I can find Waldo.

Nod to https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/office/vba/language/reference/user-interface-help/variant-data-type
Why use Variant here?
Seems Integer would work but since you might exceed 32768 go with long integers.

PS. Added with edit. Be sure all the constants and variables in your math are long as well. 256 isn't long.

What is "focs"?
A long time ago I worked with a company that did such work. They never used simulation software but had a small railcar that was towed at the back of the train which had the sensor gear. They would ride in the caboose and used Windows PCs with at the time high end gear of dual CPUs and custom software for collection and later analysis.

I don't recall them recording acceleration of the train. This was all about measuring the track health.

  1. Line 15 calculates X but I don't see where X is used.
  2. Same for line 16 and Y.
  3. The function or possibly array bDibBGRA is not native to VB6 so I can't tell what you are doing on lines 17 and 23
  4. Why is optimizing needed today? That is this would run in a split second on the usual hardware we have at the office.
  5. You never explained what this code's purpose is so it's a roll of the dice if I could optimize it.
  6. VB6. It's dead. Move on.

So I looked at the Pixabulous Designs site and it seems fine. Also with about 10 other employees what do others at your company use?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

The standard libraries in c and c++ are external and you can't do much without them so the answer must be no.
And that's without getting into we need to either write or use libraries to unpack compressed images. Maybe you could do something with a non-compressed bitmap but I can't guess why a programmer would put such an artificial limitation on their app.

With that out of the way, years ago I used the Image Magick libraries to get what I needed done at the time.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Share an example because nothing at pixabulousdesigns seemed slow. The page loaded in less than half a second here.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Let's say it did loop. Wouldn't I trace said code or use the debugger to see where it's looping?
And at over 300 lines of code, I won't be reading all that. You need to find where it's looping.

These characters are usually in the charset your host provides and one can select other sets.
See https://www.w3schools.com/html/html_charset.asp for example charsets.

To get into this you would reveal the host OS, compiler in use, etc.

While I used another method in my last example, I thought I'd share a method that isn't very challenging for the end user.

The method you are using may block one method but my opinion is it's a waste of effort due to how easy it is to get the images from said page.

Head back to FCM and compile their demo or in software speak, a minimum viable example.

If their demo or minimum viable example fails, file a bug report.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Keep in mind I can't replicate your issue since I have no code or your dev system. All I know is that when this happens to me most of the time it clears up when I do a "make clean" or full recompile.

Also, I would have to guess or Google what FCM is. My tip is when you use an acronym try to expand it at least one time in the conversation. Example: That's TSFM! (Too Spooky For Me.)

Have a fun Halloween as you hunt down this ghost.

Our apps worked with (at the time) almost any SQL server. So we didn't have to license MySQL.

If your application works with many databases, either natively or by using one of the database source independent frameworks, then you can freely distribute the MariaDB server with your application without being affected by the GPL. The reason for this is that MariaDB would only be an optional, independent component in your software distribution and section 2 of the GPL explicitely allows this

cored0mp commented: Thanks! That's genius. +0
rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Can you tell me more about the License concerns? We've never had to pay for decades. I think my first use was around 1998. That's 25 years of free use.

Is MySQL free or cost?
MySQL is free and open-source software under the terms of the GNU General Public License, and is also available under a variety of proprietary licenses.

cored0mp commented: Yes, it sounds like our use cases are different. Since I plan to resell the software, I think that I can get a better licensing deal with Postgres. +0
rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator
  1. GRANT. Yes, you'll be using the GRANT command.
  2. I can't guess your needs here. If your system is web based or app based (C++, etc.) then the GRANT would be per user. If web or server based, then you grant needs change. This isn't a simple yes/no question. That is, the system designer would know what they need. A new system designer will take time to take a few tutorials about this area and think long and hard about security. i.e. don't grant too much power to all possible users.
  3. The old MySQL vs Postgres question seems to be about if your needs are read or write heavy. Or if there's a feature you absolutely need in either system.

As to splitting functions each to a file, never adopted that because I am the author and it was my choice. Now this was all C code, not C++ so with each language we followed the rules that worked for us.

In other words, standards are great since we have so many to choose from. For instance, indentation was one I told them to take a hike on. That rule would change with every manager. It wasn't worth it to change the code base to meet the new standards. If they wanted it changed, we'd ask for additional hours (money) which shut down the request quickly.

@DANI. I kept it simple because without fail clients would have a lot of work to be done and a beer budget. Yes we would feedback about broken UI/UX.

Funny you mentioned wireframes. We stopped using those years ago since you could never implement the wireframe exactly across what is now some thousand different screens. Not to mention if the user doesn't have the browser full screen or the phone is portrait or landscape. We went with simple sketches of the desktop and mobile views and because of budget and time, didn't bother with wireframing.
