As to the last question in last reply. Yes, some companies try that but with employment rates in the last few percent they don't try it as often.

Companies that expect interns to be fully fledged experts and ready to go to work are to be treated as you see fit.

From the dictionary: Intern: "a student or trainee who works, sometimes without pay, at a trade or occupation in order to gain work experience."

That does not mean you show up without any skills but with the basics and if you are missing something, the job provides a mentor or a class on that area. If the company calls it an internship and then demands you be a full stack developer, run.

As to an article, here's a Reddit. https://www.reddit.com/r/learnprogramming/comments/ag606e/i_went_from_learner_to_fullstack_developer_within/ worth reading. Close to self promotion but I don't expect an intern to be ready for the job. Intern? Yes.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator
  1. Internships. My view is this is "not a job." Do you need me to detail how internships used to be and how many companies are ripping off interns?
  2. Clustering. I supplied a current new article on the phenomenon. I noticed this a few years back and it's only gotten worse.

What this means is don't let it get you down that you don't get an internship if they are making demands as if you were a full-time normal hire. You are not, you are an intern.

Also, be prepared to move. Don't get stuck where you are.

Let's take a big old swipe or beat up software development while we are here.

Start with https://imgur.com/gallery/z2WkWhb

We have waterfall, Agile, Kanban, Scrum, Lean, and more. All these are in search of The Holy Grail. Not one has failed to deliver a never ending supply of jokes and failed projects. What many forget is it doesn't really matter which method you use, if you don't have a team with the skills you are going to have a bad day.

-> I bet there is a LASiK course on software development out there.

Our LASiK (Lean Agile Scrum is Kanban) course will train you in the latest mashup of the best software development systems known today. Our course directors have a vision. You too can share in this vision. (for only 20,000USD for our 5 weekend boot camp.)

Wait, I thought you asked about internship. If it's a job, then yes they can expect you to have the knowledge. But "internship" means you have the basics but will learn on the job and grow into the work.

Don't get me started about internships that companies use in order to fill the ranks as if it was a slave ship.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

To the topic question: "Yes."

But I went about it another way. I wrote code BEYOND homework and over the years always had demos of my work on hand. I built up a portfolio of my works just like you do for art and film. This has become easier as we now have smart phones so instead of the hard portfolio my phone also has demos of my works.

So two more things.

  1. I'm amazed at many of today's grads or students that dismiss the portfolio concept. Maybe that's a good thing. Leaves more jobs for those that really put in the time and effort.
  2. Tech jobs in the USA are clumping into a few cities. Now you can get all entitled or accept this is what is happening. Some are getting discouraged over that but it is happening. Watch https://www.cbsnews.com/news/90-percent-of-tech-jobs-growth-concentrated-in-just-5-cities-according-to-brookings-institute-report/

You asked 10 questions but I must paint with a broad brush that you may not get your choice of work or have to wait till there are jobs in your area.

Then again, don't look at https://66.media.tumblr.com/9cdb3d6cd00142e8aba715e7d79f03b4/tumblr_p6kh16IoMf1u0glb4o1_1280.jpg

{
    bool something = true;
    do {
       something = stuff(); // stuff() does stuff and returns false when done.
       }
   while ( something );
   return 0;
}

I don't see you ask a question (most use the question mark.) So break down the problem to manageable steps.

As to not exit etc. menus and such that's basic logic. Example.

And real code. Use this at https://www.tutorialspoint.com/compile_cpp_online.php

Example sin() code with results in 0 to about 100 integers.

#include <iostream>

using namespace std;

int main()
{
    cout << "Hello sin()" << endl;
    float angle = 0.0;
    int maxscale = 100;
    for (angle = 0.00; angle < 3.14; angle += 0.01) {
    cout << int(maxscale * sin(angle)) << endl;
}
   return 0;
}

Code output:

Let's get back to basics here. Imagine if the output of sin() is as noted at https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/c-runtime-library/reference/sin-sinf-sinl?view=vs-2019

So the return value of sin(n) is a float from 0.0 to 1.0. If you treat it as an integer then for only one value it might get you a value of 1 but all other values will be zero.

The examples are the link I supplied in this reply work fine. But let's say you need some integer values,

In psuedo-code but again we need floating numbers:

float angle = 0.0;
int maxscale = 100;
for (angle = 0.00; angle < 3.14; angle += 0.01) {
    cout << sin(angle) * maxscale << endl;
}
rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I can't guess which compiler, IDE or such but usually we use a modern one so we know the line that has the error and can examine values.

All that aside, think again what sin() returns. Since you declared all to be integers, maybe you skipped what an integer is?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

What error? Also, I can't guess if there is something about your c++ compiler and conversions between int and floats. So I'll have to leave it here as, you are using ints and the result of sin() is what? (You tell me because I want you to learn this area as it will be something you deal with for a very long time.)

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Not really. You declared integers. So for all cases in the loop, the result looks to be zero. May have to think about how to scale that up.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Since you didn't have a sine function, why would you expect a sine wave?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

That would be in psuedo code about 2 lines of code.

for (float x = 0.00; x < 1.00; x += 0.01) {
    cout << sin(x) << endl;
}

Adjust 1.00 and step value as required.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I'll take this is a task and not homework. So my research would be as follows.

  1. https://www.google.com/search?q=write+ppm+file+c%2B%2B
  2. From 1, I see a favorite site ROSETTACODE. That's https://rosettacode.org/wiki/Bitmap/Write_a_PPM_file
  3. I might skip a direct write to PPM and consider scripting my data to GNUPLOT which would open the door to a lot more options.

Again, I take this is not homework so we can use other solutions and code from the web.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Not enough detail. However I've seen malware do that. The PC was hacked, not the web site.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Did you replace said HDD? Sometimes we find oddly failing drives and the owner didn't replace them.

Also, be sure to look at the S.M.A.R.T. values. If you find 01 and 07 out in the thousands (raw value) then the drive has issues. This is well discussed so I see little need to duplicate priors. If you see this, you replace the drive.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I don't see how you can avoid any possibility of trouble. You could reveal more or decide not to write Jeffrey Epstein didn't kill himself or "Free Hong Kong." Now that I've written this you can too?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

The best reason to pick up the gauntlet is you need some app. That said I've turned to Python for many reasons now.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Time to share what error you saw and what line number since VB's IDE and runtime tells that.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Preachers, teachers, and more are welcome here.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Let's cover a few items.

  1. Passwords. If you store passwords in the old bad way of plain text then you deserve the grief and trouble. This area is well discussed and there is no longer any excuse to leak passwords.
  2. URLs. Since you don't control what's on other sites and this may vary by country you are not liable UNLESS you are a site about illegal activities which is on its own a quagmire since what is legal here may be illegal in another country.
  3. If you live in fear over all this, why would you create such a site?
rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

AFAIK, not something Edge does. Another reason I don't use Edge.
https://www.tenforums.com/general-support/85925-local-files-ms-edge.html notes we can open a file from WFE (Windows File Explorer.)
I've also dragged and dropped a file onto Edge and that worked.

Part II. Here's the usual low profile GTX 1050 Ti 4GB card for such.

https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-Geforce-Profile-Graphic-GV-N105TOC-4GL/dp/B06WWLWWJM

There's a reason I didn't find an ATI/AMD card in this class and it has to do with AMD's UEFI requirement. This also means we can't entertain the new Nvidia 16xx models.

MeBryan commented: Thank you very much +0
rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

You didn't reveal what this graphics card is for or what monitor it would be driving.

However I will share my power consumption tests on an old HP dv9000t with the Core2Quad CPU and what it peaked out at with a few cards.
I had tests with the GT 240, 1050 Ti and a 1060.

Numbers are over at https://www.cnet.com/forums/discussions/im-upgrading-some-old-iron-what-would-you-like/

  1. GT 240 was Max: 1.32A or 160W max during tests.
    Idle: .69A or 83W.
  2. The SSD helped too and was Max: 1.15A or 140W max during tests.
    Idle: .58A or 70W.
  3. 1050 Ti was Max: 1.43A or 173W max during tests.
    Idle: .58A or 70W.
  4. GTX 1060 6GB came in at Max:2.07A or 250W max during tests.
    Idle: .60A or 72.6W

All the models noted an 85 plus PSU at 240 Watts so at 85% efficiency your PC's limit would be the GTX 1050 Ti 4GB in some low profile model.
Many will pull back to the 1030 but that would not be suitable for say someone that is trying to game as 1080p 60Hz today.

I rarely use the term Nazi but the US is heading toward such a system with secret courts, secret evidence and hidden detention camps. While we can find such information on the web today, the next two searches will inflame some. Mostly those that tend to support such systems. Sadly less so to those that find such systems abhorrent.

Here I go tossing a gas can into the fire:
https://www.google.com/search?q=nazi+hidden+courts+and+detainment
https://www.google.com/search?q=US+hidden+courts+and+detainment

I once had a nice article to link to about how the Nazi's started with such actions in secret then moved to doing them in public and how the public accepted them as they became the norm.

First, you would be writing the script and code. Some folk land on programming forums and want to have the code written for them. If you are putting up a job then you need to put the job up on the freelance coding boards.

With that out of the way if I was to automate interacting with a web site I'd start wtih this search:
