I agree with most of their suggestions. Try and reconfigure the e-mail settings. I suggest creating a new mail profile and then do the changes there and then just migrate the e-mails after it works on the new profile

I don't really believe there is a "Best" AV program out there. It's all about who updates their virus definitions most often. I personally use Microsoft Security Essentials because it's free and have had no problems using it for over a year now. I used to have Norton, but found it absurd having to pay for it when there are free ones in the internet.

I'm assuming you're referring to the default font settings. You can try these steps. I don't use WLM myself but this should be worth the try.

  1. Select Tools | Options...
  2. You might need to press the "alt" key for the menu bar to show up.
  3. Go to the Compose tab.
  4. Under Compose Font, click the Font Settings... button next to Mail:.
  5. Choose the desired font and color.
  6. Click OK and try to restart WLM to see if it changed the default font settings.

I'm personally not familiar with Power Director or DVDFab but there are tons of software on the internet (most are free) that you can use to rip audio off movies. I believe this is how mp3's started anyway.

One reason why a lot of XP users are reluctant to upgrade is because it took a while before they released a new version (Vista) and on 2 years after that they released Windows 7. A lot of people got used to having WinXP on their computers. It's basically the long time-gap between XP and Vista which made people very comfortable with WinXP. Right now, I work with Windows Tech Support and one of the reasons why people don't want to upgrade is the price. $200+ is simply too steep for an operating system that really doesn't offer much in terms of what people needs. Programmers and hardcore computer users would probably switch in a heartbeat but casual users doesn't really need Windows 7 (yet). What Win7 offers users that they want to upgrade from WinXP is basically the XP Mode which is free and downloadable from the website. This lets you use WinXP in parallel with Win7 just in case there are no more drivers available for your hardware or software incompatibilities arises.

When do you get the error? is it right on Start up or when you launch an application? If it shows up after an app is launched, what application was it?

looking up the file it seems like it's part of the SQLite Database Library from sqlite.org.

oalee 53 cyberkill(ed) Team Colleague

I feel so stupid browsing the site. Everything feels so alien.. LOL

oalee 53 cyberkill(ed) Team Colleague

As experience has taught me, error 0x80070570 is usually caused by bad ISO's downloaded or bad burns to DVD's. If the DVD was just a burned copy, try burning it again using the slowest possible speed as this usually avoids errors during the process.

You can actually use a Windows computer for ICS as long as you're not running a Windows 7 Starter version.

Instructions are for Windows Vista but shouldn't be much different for Windows 7. Instructions are from http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Using-ICS-Internet-Connection-Sharing

Enabling ICS

To enable ICS, on your host computer:

Open Network Connections by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Network and Internet, clicking Network and Sharing Center, and then clicking Manage network connections.

Right-click the connection that you want to share, and then click Properties. Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Click the Sharing tab, and then select the Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet connection check box.
Note
Note

The Sharing tab will not be available if you have only one network connection.

If desired, you can also select the Allow other network users to control or disable the shared Internet connection check box.

Optionally, to allow other network users to use services running on your network, click Settings and select the services you want to allow.

When you enable ICS, your local area network (LAN) connection gets a new static IP address and configuration, so you'll need to reestablish any TCP/IP connections between your host computer and the other network computers.

To test your network and Internet connection, see if you can share files between computers and make sure each computer can reach a …

Internet has already ruined my life. I have stopped doing my regular exercise, haven't played ball in ages and i spend most of my day in front of a computer (at work and at home). I'm not sure though if it is because I can't play which is why i spend it in front o the computer or I spend too much time with the computer that I don't have time to play anymore. Nonetheless, the internet has both ruined and improved my life. :)

The problem you gave us is pretty broad, you'll need to give more details about it.

1. Does the monitor power on? (Amber colored light on it even before you turn the computer on)
2. Do you hear any beeps?
3. Specs of your computer? (like what Rik asked, is the graphics card built-in on-board or is it a separate card? (AGP/PCI-E)

First thing I check in cases like these are the plugs/cords and reseating the video card and RAM's.

I have a little shiny pointy needle though.. :P

Are you a shep oalee? Each web brosers have their own advantages

I agree with browsers having their own pros and cons, but honestly I don't see any major advantage of one over the other. It's really more of a personal preference on which one you're comfortable using.

Tell us what is the speed i have never had an 8 GB ram, i only use a 4 GB. Is it dammn fast if yes i maybe considering to upgrade my laptop

Right now I have 6G on my laptop, it's been working nicely so far. Games sometimes screw it up, GPU overheats and shuts down so I try to avoid games on this machine.

Do you think that ALIENS will destroy earth before the sun explodes?

I'd prefer them coming first before the sun explodes. At least we get to kick alien butts when they come.

Isn't Donating an act of morality, rather then to gain privliges, it's not really donating at all if your getting something in return is it? It's more like buying something.

So it's like $4.50 Australian dollars?

Actually, it is an act of morality. But of course, DW would want to give back something in return to those people that shells out their hard earned cash to help keep this site up and running. Area 51 is just one of the priveleges that they are given. Access to it is not for sale but rather it's the least thing that DW can give back to the financially helping members.

I guess everyone have, at one time, seen a UFO. As the name suggests, it's anything that flies that you can't identify. It could be a piece of plastic bag flying that you didn't recognize or just a play flying by.

oalee 53 cyberkill(ed) Team Colleague

I'm not really sure why you would want to disable it but nonetheless you can do it by following the steps below:

1. Run "services.msc" or in Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services
2. Look for Windows Eventlog
3. Right-click and Select Properties
4. Under the drop-down "Startup type" select "Disabled"

It should stop logging right after you restart your computer.

oalee 53 cyberkill(ed) Team Colleague

One suggestion I have is to reset it to the default settings. You can find this under Tools>Internet Options>Advanced TAB>Reset Button. See attached jpeg file.

Sorry for reviving a zombie thread.. 22 days is not that bad though, i've seen worse.. LOL

I should be able to do the cpu as well (but depends in wattage and ram, etc). I was also wondering if anyone has heard of upgrading the graphics and not replaceing it. But by taking another chip, desoldering, reballing, and then soldering it onto the laptop.

I honestly am not aware of any methods to do this. A word to the wise though, I wouldn't void the laptop's warranty by cracking it open and making modifications just yet. I'd probably do this on an older laptop but not on a new box.

oalee 53 cyberkill(ed) Team Colleague

I'm inclined to agree with your tech support that it could be a virus. What I would suggest is for you to call Microsoft PC Safety Tech Support. I believe they provide free support for Microsoft Windows users. They will assist you in looking for and removing viruses/malwares on your computer. when you get to the customer service rep just tell them you're calling in because you suspect that your computer is virus infected, they should transfer you directly to PC Safety.

oalee 53 cyberkill(ed) Team Colleague

One main reason for this to happen is when your laptop overheats. It seems to still be running but is actually in the process of hibernating. When you turn the computer back on, do you get a notification that it was because of overheating? I have a similar experience on my laptop and is usually because of overheating. check the vents of they are clear of dust and dirt.
