Why can't you use Windows Media Player? I always use it to rip and burn audio CDs.
Join in on the Cannot login to Hotmail thread. Seems like many people are having this issue. We haven't found a fix yet, but we're looking.
Congrats! Now you can gloat to all your friends that you have Network Admin skills :).
One thing that you might try is installing SP2 before you install any drivers. I reinstalled a machine last night, and the wireless NIC refused to work unless I removed the driver and reinstalled it after installing SP2. So, for the safest install procedure, download the SP2 installer, get the installer on some type of media that you can load on the machine after the fresh install (burned CD/DVD, flash drive, etc); do a fresh install of XP, install the SP2 update next; install the motherboard, video, audio, network, etc drivers; and proceed from there. It's often the case that a machine will have driver conflicts after the update, but there seem to be fewer if you add the drivers after the SP2 update.
If you install XP to machines frequently, keep the SP2 installer handy. Doing so will save you much grief in the future.
After looking at the Logitech site and their support area and seeing that there wasn't any helpful information for this situation, I would suggest contacting Logitech support directly and getting suggestions from them.
I might be missing something, but the log looks fine to me. Can you describe in better detail what you mean by acting suspicious?
What's interesting is that it seems like many people are having the same issue at nearly the same time. There aren't really any good answers out there on what to try, so I sent a formal help request into Passport technical support. Hopefully I'll get more than just a stock response that doesen't give any real help. I'll update the thread with whatever I find or receive from the powers that be.
Try running this command in the console:
mat_dxlevel 90
See if that changes the DirectX mode.
You can also add
-dxlevel 90
to the startup command in your shortcut to force it to load in 9.0 mode.
Try right-clicking the device in the Device Manager and selecting Install Driver. Let Windows try to find the driver on its own.
Uninstall all of Office, reboot, and try to see if one of these three possible solutions that I found work for you:
Is the Format class file in the same directory as the file you are not able to compile?
If it is not, are you importing the package?
Is your print() method in the Format package static?
You say that you can make the call "successfully" in another part of the project. Please elaborate on what you mean by "successfully". Do you mean that you can compile one class in the project which uses that code but no other classes? Or do you mean that the IDE doesn't indicate that there are any issues?
You really must give more information if we are to help you. Provide the basic structure of your Format class (including its package declaration and the print method definition), provide a more detailed view of the class that you are trying to compile (what it imports and where in the class you are trying to call the Format method), and provide details about the class that successfully compiles (assuming that there is one).
And please... Put all your code inside CODE tags.
Please let me know if this solution fixes your problem.
Please join this thread that is discussing the same issue. Please search for possible answers before starting a new thread. The thread I linked to was the most current thread at the time of your posting.
Try referring to the suggestions in this thread. If you are able to fix the problem with the suggestions, great. If not, let me know and we can go from there.
I just realized that the update is for a different system, so that fix wouldn't work for you.
Do you have a Windows XP install CD? If you do, start up the Recovery Console and execute the following command:
chkdsk /r
This will do a thorough scan of your drive, correcting any problems along the way. After you have finished doing that, restart your machine and see if it loads properly.
If you don't have access to a Windows setup disk, use the instructions on this page to optain Windows boot disks. One of the options as you work with these disks is to load the Recovery Console. After you load the console, use the instructions above to run the disk scan.
It might help if you actually post the log :).
One thing I didn't mention is that the specific user also has to be on that machine. The folders that you cannot access cannot be shared across a network (without going through additional steps that can be hard to troubleshoot if they don't work). Your best best is to copy the files from the area that you can't access to a place that you can access. For example, it would probably be a good idea to make a folder just off of the C: called "Shared Files" (C:\Shared Files). After you create that folder, copy all the files that you have problems accessing into that folder and try accessing them again.
If I'm still missing the issue, please elaborate further about what your specific issue is. It would greatly help me diagnose the issue if you can tell me the specific folder and file that you are unable to access along with the specific error that you receive.
P.S. You're welcome. My parents are moving across the country in a couple of weeks, so I need to bone up on my tech support skills since usually I just go over to their place when they need help :).
phpBB is an open-source forum package that is very good. It's also free. I recommend that you go to that site and follow the instructions on setting up a forum.
Some files can only be accessed by a specific user (files on the desktop, My Documents, etc). You said that you tried copying the files that you wanted to access to folders that you could, but that didn't work, were you unable to see the files or did you receive an error when you tried to access them?
Were you able to get any files transferred over?
Which files do not show up (please be specific about their location in the directories)?
This BIOS update fixes the boot problems (commonly seen as the system hanging at Loading PBR Descriptor) when some USB devices are connected to the computer.

What do you mean by unable to access? Were you unable to access the files from the other computer? If so, did you get an error? Please be specific about what problem you had.
Try running "sfc /scannow" from the Run dialog. This will ensure that your protected Windows files are as they should be. See if that makes any difference.
You may access your mail through Outlook, but Outlook isn't your mail server. Check your connections, you should see settings for a POP3 server. If you're connecting to your mail server using POP3, it is easy to configure many different web-based programs to check your mail as well. If you are wanting to be able to access everything from your Outlook (contacts, sent mail, etc) from the web, then you have your solution backwards. If you want everything to be available on the web, you should use a web service as your main mail client. In either setup, it would be best to configure Outlook to leave the mail on your mail server so that you can access all your received mail from either Outlook or a web client.
From your description, it seems that setting up Windows File Sharing will be the "easiest" method to transfer the files. I put easiest in quotes because it can offer problems at times. This guide offers a step-by-step way off sharing a folder. I'd recommend setting up a shared folder on your old computer using the guide (don't set up the Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) since this will make it hard for you other computer to see the shared folder) and copying all the files you want to copy over into the shared folder. Once you have this set up, you will be able to access the shared files from the new computer and copy them over to a folder on the new system.
If you aren't able to set up the shared folder on the old computer, try setting up an empty shared folder on the new computer (make sure that you check "Allow network users to change my files"). If you set up the shared folder in this way, you will end up navigating to the shared folder from the old computer and copying the files directly to it.
If you are able to get a shared folder set up, update the thread, and I'll guide you through finding the shared folder from the other system.
If you aren't able to get a shared folder set up, we'll have to look at other alternatives.
Sorry... I have another question for you.
What version of Windows is on each machine?
If you have a DSL setup like me, you have a modem that you connect to the phone line. You then have a CAT5 cable (line that has jacks that look like big phone plugs) that connects the modem to a router. The router connects to your computers either with more CAT5 cable or wirelessly.
If this sounds like your setup (or even if it is different but each machine can connect to the internet at the same time), then your computers should be able to see eachother on the network.
Please confirm whether or not my description of your setup was accurate. If it wasn't accurate, please elaborate upon how your computers are connected to the internet.
One final piece of information that I would like to know is how much information are you wanting to transfer over. Are you wanting to transfer a bunch of images and documents? Are you wanting to transfer all your programs? Do you want to transfer everything? Can you give me an estimate on the total size of the files that you want to transfer?
Answering the following questions will help me give advice that is tailored to your setup:
Do you use a dialup connection or a broadband connection (DSL, cable, etc) to access the internet?
Do your computers connect to a router, hub, switch, or other networking device?
Do you have a Yahoo!, GMail, or other email account that has at least 1GB of storage space?
If you need any clarification on what I mean by any of the terms I used, feel free to ask.
Since I don't buy drives by other manufacturers, I can't comment on the features that they offer.
If you really wanted to add speakers that have boom, learn a bit about electronics. Find out the output voltage and amperage on the speaker header and attach a relay switch to the header so that it triggers a device that can give you more bang during your post. The speaker header simply isn't enough to power the type of speakers that you're talking about.
The problem is that most old DOS programs, your version of Turbo C++ included, constantly poll for keypresses. Since the DOS environment is being emulated, this means that the program is maxing out the emulation process's processor usage. If you check your process list in the Task Manager as this is happening, you will most likely see NTVDM.exe taking up most of the processor since this is the emulation process.
The fix for this problem is to upgrade to Turbo C++ 5.5 or higher. Another way to fix this is to switch to a different IDE/compiler. Is there a specific reason why you need to use this version?
Sorry that you had to pay Microsoft for an answer. It sucks that so much of the operation of Windows is so hidden away that it takes hours of research or a paid support call to do something that is listed as one of its built-in features.
Would you mind posting the steps they had you do so others with similar problems won't have to pay Microsoft for the answer as well?
Recursion is strange in that it's a simple concept but can be incredibly complex and hard to understand. I wasn't really understanding your approach to the problem, so I worked out my own form of a solution.
class genPerms
{
public static void main(String[] args)
{
int num = 3;
if(args.length > 0)
{
num = Integer.parseInt(args[0]);
}
showPermutations(num);
}
public static void showPermutations(int number)
{
showPermutations(number, 1, 1);
}
public static void showPermutations(int number, int start, int current)
{
if(current <= number)
{
String output = "";
for(int x = start; x <= current; x++)
{
if(output.length() > 0) output += " ";
output += x;
}
System.out.println(output);
showPermutations(number, start, current + 1);
}
else if(start <= number)
{
showPermutations(number, start + 1, start + 1);
}
else
{
System.out.println("Empty Set");
}
}
}
I'll continue to look at your code and see if I can find the logic errors. Hopefully, if you study what I did, you can understand the problem a bit better.
The solution I came up with allows you to specify a number other than 3 but defaults to 3 if no argument is given. There isn't any error checking on the input, so supplying a non-integer number will crash the program.
I also added spaces between the numbers so that you could specify numbers larger than 9 and read the output easily.
Our suggestions were just to see if you wanted to use that avenue or a different one. If you would like to try the drive swapping idea, we can walk you through the process. I know the terms and names are scary sounding, but they are just words. The actual process is quite simple.
If you don't want to do that, the easiest way to transfer the files is to either burn them onto a CD/DVD or connect both systems to a network and transfer the files over the network. From your original post, these options didn't seem to be available to you. Please correct us if we are wrong.
Ghost, just as Narue said, there isn't a tutorial for this. Creating a full-featured remote access system is a task much larger than could be covered in a tutorial. If you could find a tutorial for each required piece of such a program, you would easily have to combine the information and procedures used in 30+ tutorials.
If creating such a program were simple enough to be tutorialized, companies would have a hard time selling the software for hundreds of dollars.
Try this bit of code:
// Loop until the number becomes 0
while(num1 != 0)
{
// Check for a 2
if((num1 % 10) == 2) count++;
// Chop off the last digit
num1 /= 10;
}
Did he directly copy over everything including the Windows directory? If so, he would have messed up his install. He'll have to do a repair install of the operating system to fix it.
For future reference, his computer most likely didn't load when he added the other drive because he didn't set the master/slave jumper settings on the drives correctly.
The link I was talking about was the link titled Get detailed information about your system at the bottom of my post.
Can you see any markings on the motherboard? Usually you can find some wording about who made the motherboard and what its model number is between the PCI slots (the slots that the long cards plug into).
Considering that it sounds like you can't get the machine to work at all, you should just remove the drive from the old machine, put it in the new machine as a secondary drive, and copy the files over.
zippee, you'll want to learn how to use Regular Expressions in PHP. You can find a good Regular Expression tutorial that includes examples for what you are wanting here.
You can follow the link in my sig to get detailed information about your system. I don't know if it will properly detect what type of network adapter you have, but it very well could.
Is your network adapter wired or wireless?
Is it built into the motherboard or is it a card attached to the motherboard?
Is it possible for you to look inside your system so you can tell who made your card (if it's a card) or motherboard (if it's built-in) and what model number it is?
If your system is made by a company like Dell or Compaq and the network adapter came with the system, who made your computer and what model number is it?
You say that it's freezing for no reason. If it's freezing, there has to be a reason for it.
FFXI doesn't like it when you run background programs since the only reason you would run anything in the background and then run FFXI is because you want to cheat (*rolls eyes*).
The first program I can think of that causes problems is XFire. If you are running that program while running FFXI, that's your problem.
FFXI will also crash if you try to alt-tab out of the program.
Make sure that you terminate all background processes (instant messengers, spyware checkers, browsers, everything ...), then try to run FFXI again. See if this makes any difference.
A quick and dirty way of doing it would be to create a new ArrayList (arrList2), use a loop to read each object in the original ArrayList (arrList1), use the indexOf method to check arrList2 for the presence of the object that you are checking, add the object to arrList2 if the object isn't present in the list, and replace the ArrayList instance in arrList1 with arrList2.
If you've already put together some code, post the code here (put it inside code block so it's readable), and we can help you find your problems.
What process is maxing out the processor (check the processes tab)?
If you kill the process that is taking all the processor (right-click the process and select "End Process"), does your system start up?
Can you start up in Safe Mode?
In mice, dpi (dots per inch) indicates how sensitive the mouse is to movement. The higher the dpi, the higher the sensitivity.
Download it again and save it to its own folder. If it downloads as a zip file, unzip it to the folder.
The following line is still an issue:
O23 - Service: Command Service (cmdService) - Unknown owner - C:\WINNT\ZG9uLm1jZG9uYWxk\command.exe
See if you can find that program and delete it. After deleting it, try to remove that using HijackThis again.
Reboot your computer in Safe Mode, make sure that you have no programs running in the background (including browsers, messengers, etc), run HijackThis from its own folder (if it's in a zip file, extract it to its own folder, like "c:\hijackthis\"), select "Do a system scan only", and put a check mark next to each of the following lines:
