i tried typing "Tasklist /SVC" on the dos prompt
like
c:\Documents and Settings\Owner>Tasklist /Svc

and it says

'tasklist' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

am i entering it wrong or something :/ ?

go to start/all programs /accessories /and command prompt.
Just type in .... Tasklist /svc ,note there is a space between tasklist and the / slash

Ok, my goal now is to get this to work on my current level of W98, or to find a cheap Win98SE update.

I saw in another forum that may be able to use a WinXP driver to get around this problem, but need more understanding. Does anyone see this as a good solution?

Thx.

Bob

The first computer I had 98se on was a p166 32 megs of ram use it for about 4 yrs.
I wouldn't put xp on it if i were you .
As for upgrading to 98SE all you need is a 98SE disk and from the boot disk run setup making sure to install it in the c:\windows folder,so that it over writes the win98 ,[not the c:\windows000 folder that it might choose] and install it over the 98 version .I have done this on numerisous ocations with 95 and 98 .

runtime errors are caused by a bug in the software program you are using at the time of the errror.
So it could be a bug in you install of IE or a program that the certain sites /pages are using for one reason or another ,like Java or maybe a sound player .!!
What is the full error message it's telling you ,or does it just say you have a runtime error .
Maybe post a link here to one of the sites in question .

Smart ,You got to be Stupid to even start learning how to read a hijacklog.!LOL
Most of it is memory and searching ,and a few program to help reconize the baddies .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Sorry I can't help you untill you stop running hijackthis from the zip ,you need to unzip hijack this to it own folder on the harddrive ,because it creates backups to use in the event i make a mistake ,and believe me Im capiable of doing that .
.............................................
Important: Create a folder on the C: drive called HJT.
You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT.
Unzip HijackThis into this folder. When you run HijackThis from this folder and have it "Fixed checked" it will create a backup file of modifications to use if restore is necessary.

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Are you sure you ran ad-aware and spybot .!!!!
So much in you log .i really don't have time to rechearch it all sorry ,but please do the followinf fixex for now and i'll try and find time tomorrow to search on the rest .
................................................

You are still running hijackthis from a temp folder .

unzip hijackthis to a folder of its own like c:\HJT\hijackthis.exe
........................................
Have Hijack This fix the following by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and selecting fix checked. Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing.

NOTE: Please copy and paste this post into notepad and save to you desktop. or print a copy of these instructions because you will be working with all windows closed except HijackThis.

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

Well it seems you jst have to go looking for it with you Security set really low and you will find ,cant find anyone who knows a sit with the bad EXE on it .
one thing you could do it this if you have CWShredder on you computer ,or get it here , http://www3.ns.sympatico.ca/c.bennett03/CWShredder.exe
put it on you hardrive .then copy a shourtcut to your desktop .right click on the shortcut and choose properties and in the target add this with a space after the .exe /debug.
Close it and then click on the shourt cut and you will get a tool to search for cws sites ,and also a list of bad sites where you could get the infections .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

thanks il try it. IM pretty sure its not spyware though. Its a dll error. OH and that second one you said, the CW shredder link doesnt work.

I will fix the link thanks ,It may not be spyware ,but you hijack log indicates you have lots of spyware and trojan infected file !good luck
