I had this problem with many computers and the only solutions is to do recovery from the windows cd or re install the windows from different windows xp copy.
Thanks
maybe so ,but i to have had bsod's on many computers [depends on the bsod error message ]and fixed it with a chkdsk /p/f ,except ones that were caused by bad ram , don't know how you can say what you are saying when the poster hasn't even posted his bsod error info ,it could be bad ram
Hello,
. I have performed a chkdsk .
did you do a chkdsk /p/f , or just chkdsk
erunt is for backing up registry ,so you should use it first then the other one
hi a search of daniweb for you problem yields this ,have a read maybe one has your solution .good luck
http://www.daniweb.com/search/search.php?q=Changing+security+settings+for+folders
spy-bot and avg are good but not the best anymore . try this one really good program http://www.superantispyware.com/?rid=3404
I had the infamous BSoD. It said something like "critical system error" or something along those lines.
buy new ram ,or something along those lines
boot to recovery counsel and run "chkdsk /p/f" with out the "or something along those lines
remove any new hardware added recently ,or something along those lines .
my point is there are many causes of the bsod ,and the correct error info is needed to help you correctly
Im not trying to make it a gamer computer at all, i dont even play games, or have any. Im just trying to get the right normal colors. Like i said before, the most i do is photoshop, and use it for internet etc....no games. So i think ill buy a cheap low profile card that should do it. Like $50 max.
sorry ,confused you with another poster trying to make a gamer ,sorry ,yeah go for a low profile one it will works wonder for photo shop
i think they are confuse and referring to you comment about hooking it to you laptop. .
you didn't answer any of my questions in my last post ,i could advise you more if you did .you could try right clicking on you desktop go to properties /advances /settings ,and change the screen resolution to a higher setting ,then go t oadvanced /monitor and change the refresh rate [higher] make sure hide modes this monitor can't display is check off
Oh ok im sorry. I tried doing the resolution and refresh rate but it doesnt fix it. Im sorry i didnt see your question, its a slim desktop. It can stand up or sit on its side with a monitor on top of it or whatever. Its the smallest of its kind (GX270) slim desktop. But its not the new one 2008 or even 2007. Its older. I dont even know if they have new optiplex.
Thanks,
that's what i thought .The slim will take a low profile video card ,then metal bracket on the card that holds it into the case is shorter that the regular ones,in my opinion you are wasting money trying to making a gaming machine out this computer ,you'll put in a card then have problems with not enough power ,and you will not be able to buy a bigger power supply for this case ,the computer is made for office use or a Bank teller to use, not a gaming machine …
ive known about google ever since it came out, and yes i did search for it on google. nothing that fits my needs
sorry to hear that ,I guess they don't make one that does what you want it to do ,
Aww... he's given up on us. That cuts deep... really hurts.
Sorry we're useless some of the time, Bob
ah!he'll be alright ,as long as he doesn't go that other 180 and be fully twisted .lol
He he he!! Good one caperjack. You will be surprised in how many computer owners think the computer is actually the monitor, and the tower is just something to start it with.
I fix computers at home and many people call me and say ,
Listen if I drop of my hard drive will you clean it out for me !They are referring to there tower.
if you re-read my post...i said my computer doesnt support 2.1 channel speaker set...thats NOT stereo...its 2 satellite speakers with 1 bass speaker...thats 3 speakers, NOT 2...its a 2.1 channel speakers system, NOT a 2 channel stereo speaker system...
and yes, my computer does support stereo...it only supports stereo speakers, quadraphonic speakers, 5.1 surround sound speakers, and 7.1 home theater system...no 2.1 system...thus, my computer reads left speakers as left, and the bass box speaker as the right, and the actually right speaker doesnt work at all...
maybe something wrong with the right speaker ,it should work just plugging it in ,always did for me ,i just have 2 speaker system now 1
"Twisted" Have you been talking to my friends? LOL
What is the name of the new thread you started in Tips and Tweaks?
I am going to mark this thread as solved but I still have no idea how or why I am am having all this trouble with only Daniweb. I am not going to get a sensible solution from any one here but at least it was interesting to read your replies.
Things' laughable not to do with you Computer
yeah,it would have been twisted if he had used the #360.lol
What are the keystrokes while booting to restore XP to factory settings?
Thank you!
need more info ,as different manufactures use different keys .or do you mean just booting to the winxp cd and formatting and reinstalling winxp or do you mean using a restore partition on the harddrive of your computer
some more info on what computer you own, like make and model .
unplug and plug it into another one of your usb posts
"But i want it to work with my desktop you know." You can use the big monitor at home by disabling the onboard graphics device. If you want to go on the road, re inable.
Im not sure what you mean? how do i disable graphics ?? and if i do will that bring colors to normal?
i think they are confuse and referring to you comment about hooking it to you laptop. .
you didn't answer any of my questions in my last post ,i could advise you more if you did .
you could try right clicking on you desktop go to properties /advances /settings ,and change the screen resolution to a higher setting ,then go t oadvanced /monitor and change the refresh rate [higher] make sure hide modes this monitor can't display is check off
yes, i did plug it into the green one...but my system only supports stereo, quad speakers, 5.1 and 7.1 channel...no 2.1 option to select...so im guessing its not even going to work...so i returned it to the store while i could...thanks for answering though...
don't be silly all computer support 2 speaker sets , go to start /control panel /sound and audio devices ,speaker settings /advance and and chose desktop stereo speakers .
s?
Im sorry if im rambling too much but i really need help cause i just bought this lcd monitor brand new and really want it to work correctly.
Thanks alot. Waiting for your help. Much appreciated.
Thanks,
cheaper to go out and buy a new tower to match the monitor, maybe !!
the dell optiplex gx270 came in two case styles the flat desktop and a stand up tower ,what one you got !
low profile meant that the computer is thinner than a normal tower ,like a flat top case or small forum factor box.
the regular video card will fit but you will need a low profile back on so it can fit he back of the computer case .
like this one note the smaller connection bracket .

i have never heard of the term find and replace but i did hear about this great search engine called, http://www.google.ca/search?q=find+and+replace+programs&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a , lots there
Hello,
I have a compaq nx6325 laptop, how can i access the BIOS? i tried f2, f9, f10, f12 but none of them work.
F12 will let me chose if i run from CD or HD.
F10 loads something up (not the BIOS though because i cant partition a hard drive)..
you cant partition a hdd in the bios ,if you are using winxp you need to do it when formatting and installing windows .
or use third party partition software ,google for one
Best one I seen in person as it was happening was this one .
customer had computer in for repair !
Customer in back shop of computer store , Repairman shut down windows and unplugged here tower ,passed her the tower and told it it was all fixed and ready to go!.
She said but what about all my stuff on my desktop ,how do i get it home ,I will have to take your monitor with me.she thought all here stuff was on the monitor !wonder what she thought the tower was for .
This thread was started here some time ago:
The irony is that the OP had to start a thread to ask this question.
lol
some with onboard sound maybe able to fix it by installing proper motherboard chipset drivers ,i had pci sound card install ,2 different one and it still would not work ,but what you suggest may still have worked ,maybe next time for me !
i have yet to see a fix for this ,if you know for sure that you have correct drivers installed and there are no yellow ! in device manager ,then all i can say is what fixed it for me A clean reinstall of winxp
Is this thread now hijacked?
Nah, it belonged to Half twist BoB anyway
I would also like to see the thread about customer responses going somewhere, so caperjack, thats now 2 of us wanting you to start it somewhere. Is this thread now hijacked?
OK istarted it in Tips and Tweaks

We have asked this question to posters here, with BSOD [Daniweb] many times !and have gotten this answer !
Did you Install any new software lately !
Answer !, no nothing yet ,its a clean/fresh install of WinXP!
looking back, yes, that is how it seems. I did mean to reply to that post. but I didn't realise how badly we poached the thread.
CaperJack:
PM me when you start the new thread.
nah ,don't use Pm ,and don't need to start new post ,i like posting unrelated stuff in other peoples post !lol
hi ,do you have it plugged into green plug on sound card ,
sub woofer not shielded, to protect you monitor place it on the floor behind you computer desk maybe ,not sure about health issues ,aren't magnets good for what ails you .
whats that got to do with this thread?
its a computer help story! that what this thread turned into [my fault i think ]
im feeling a little stupid ,just realized you said windows 7 beta ! was thinking IE Beta ,if i wasn't bald i think i was blond
nilite is a piece of cake compared to the things you are doing with grub and 32 bit a nd 64 bit os's on multiple drives, and daemon tools
im limited to what i know ,but how can installing a 64 bit program on a 32 bit os system on a separate hard drive be an Odd problem ,sounds to me more like a problem waiting to happen!
how does that work anyway installing it on a seprate hd,would it not still install stuff in the xp 32bit registry ! and how would it have work had you unplugged the xp drive !! im lost
maybe it something you have checked in your Daniweb control panel /options ,make sure you check of the advertising section on the bottom of the option page
i have both checked off.
Disable Contextual Advertising Disable Graphical Ads
Also windows help and support center says somethind about SCSI. When i did a search on my PC lots of files with that name came up. as well as nero? idk lol
scsi is a type of drive ,like ata and sata, you are not going to see it in a file on the computer ,when you boot the computer you can go to setup/bios usually by hitting the del key of f2 or what ever ,question is do the drives show in the bios . no power to them ,maybe a bad power supply in the computer
VIPRE anti-virus, anti-spyware.
5 start from editor, thats good but 3 1/2 star rating from 41 downloaders ,not good enough for me .
http://www.download.com/Vipre-Antivirus-Antispyware/3000-8022_4-10870576.html
yes i know both of these things. I already looked on ebay and everywhere else I can think of online for just such a computer but to no avail. I posted because i was out of ideas... thanks for the responses though. Anyone have anything new?
could have saved yourself a post had you told us that in the first post.lol
shouldn't be hard to find a broken gateway ,there are lots of them out there
oui, capper. there COULD be more than two pins.
i agree ,but not a hoho lot more
Anyhow it was working fine until I accidentally bumped off the only jumper on the card - and I'm not sure where it was. .
giving it was the only jumper on the board it should not be hard to figure out where it went ,can you take and post a picture of the board .
i know this is an older thread but who know !
system restore may have replaced the filters ,check again and make sure to delete them if present, reboot computer and check drives
try E-bay
to me those numbers mean nothing ,as winxp is being used by more people ,its only % numbers .
last trojan in this house was when my wife was reading recipes on a flower makers website ,using xp, had she been using win98 or 2000 it still would have happened in my opinion
Ah.. I find comfort in that, caper. The world is safe.. some people are not obsessed by computers, to them they are mere tools. Ripper.
true ,most are fine as long as they can get onto Pogo Games or facebook , I once sold a tower [theirs crashed ]to a guy who drove about 100 miles to my place ,so his wife could get on pogo and leave him alone .lol
ok i just did a quick read , don't fully under stand he problem ,in safe mode why not just create a new user ,and use that !or is there more to this problem than my pea brain is absorbing !
