Re: Another reason why virus writers write for Windows, is they aren't open source, and in the hacker community, they can tell others that they did this on a non-open source operating system. ALso, since Linux is open source, the holes are patched within a few hours - days.
Re: If you have a secure erasing application you can get rid of the whole text file. I hope this helps, and tell me if it does.
Re: I do use Opera and Firefox mostly. However, right now I'm using IE7 because I just installed XP and haven't had enough time to finish installing all of my software.
Re: I agree with everybody else about the overheating. When I got my laptop (I got it used from a friend), I had popped out the keyboard and removed many of the components and cleaned it out. Has been working fine since.

I got an Emachine Emonster600 computer from my cousin, because he's trying to get rid of some of his old computers. Well, I got it working originally, except for the fact that when I gave it power (in this case, just plugging the computer into the wall), it would start …

I have a Lite-On XJ-HD166S (that came with a Dell Dimension 4700 in Dec 04) and it no longer works. I replaced the old one with a new liteon (i've had good luck with liteon drives), and gave it back to my family member. Now, I want to resurrect the …
Re: Jbnnnet, have you tried to make the outgoing port be 80 (which is always unblocked, because it's the port normal web traffic is moved on) and the outgoing be something like 27960 (which is used for quake 3, be creative, because that may not work) for outgoing?

I have a compaq Armada 4131T laptop from 1996 or 1997 (I got it from my uncle for free, so I'm not complaining), and it doesn't have an usb ports or network ports. I'm pretty sure it's only compatible with the 16bit PCMCIA cards (PC Cards i think) not the …

As a followup to the post of "How much I should charge?", I need a place or hopefully multiple places to post my ad for computer services I'm doing this summer. So, I'm basically doing upgrades, repairs, and complete system builds. I'm just wondering where i should post the ad. …

I'm thinking of doing computer repairs / building over the summer for some extra cashola. How much more money should I charge, above the cost of components?
I am looking to setup a domain controller, a security system (with website filtering, I would prefer if it let me unblock certain websites, and let me use a username and password to login, and bypass all filtering), and a webserver / ftp. Preferably this will all be done on …

Unless you absolutly need Windows Vista, I would personally recommand avoiding it for the time being. It's incompatible with a lot of hardware, and also it's just not necessary if you are currently running Windows XP or Windows 2000. What are your thoughts on this subject matter?
Re: In my experience it should be on the primary drive / partition, but I like to use my 400 SATA for storage and my 200GB IDE for data, so I am dual booting LInux and Windows on the same drive (well actually, tri booting, since I wanted to test some …
My current favorite is Novell and Cisco. Novell for software and Cisco for hardware. Even, though I haven't experienced any Cisco products, I really like what I hear, in magazines such as eWeek. Cheers, DarrGlud "I hope Staples sells that 200gb 20$ drive in a SATA model"

I am currently running Ubuntu 6.10 (I hope that's the right number for Edgy Eft), and I had installed a Radeon x1650xt lately, and I am wondering if they're any drivers written for this operating system, and this video card. If so, how would I go about installing them, seeing …
Re: Another common question. You will need to find a 3rd party boot loader, and setup arguments to get both drives to be able to be booted from. Although, i think you can do this with Windows built-in boot loader, I would Google Windows 98 and XP dual booting.
I am currently on my main box (Windows 2000) and I have XP in my house, but unfortunatly it's crap, so I returned to Windows 2000. But, I have noticed most apps that MS is giving out for free doesn't support Win2000. Do you think they should provide a version …
