I have Windows XP Home and Linux Mandrake 9.1 Dual Booted on one Hard drive. My Windows XP Home partition is NTFS based, but Linux refuses to remember this. When I boot Linux it tells me the partition is the wrong FS type, yet I'm sure it's set to NTFS.

From root I can mount it using (something like):

mount -t NTFS /hda1 /mnt/windows

But that means only my root user can use it, and I don't use root because the KDE GUI looks crappy with it ;). I can't mount using mount /mnt/windows or anything without specifiying NTFS.

Any ideas?

Details of that free repartitioning program I told you about earlier. If the disk contains unpartitioned space, it should allow you to resize the partition without losing data.

Erm, I hasten to point out that the RPC service doesn't appear to be failing here. Otherwise the computer would reboot, not just slow down.

Whatever this process is, it must be doing something big every couple of seconds. Are you networked or anything, perhaps acting as a server for user roaming?

Are you sure you ran the repair utility correctly? When it deletes all the windows system files, copys clean ones back, reboots and sits there for about 45 mins reconfiguring the system?

Otherwise, try pressing F8 just before Windows Boots and choose the safe mode option.

You can change your browser preferences from within the Control Panel under Internet without starting the browser. Try changing your homepage in addition to downloading Ad-aware.

Why does everyone cuss Bill Gates? Sure, Windows has it's problems, and his marketting stragety is very aggressive (illegal in the UK), but he's almost managed to unify the computing world. I had Netscape for a while, but I didn't like it. I ahve Linux installed, and it's great, but it doesn't have the support for my drivers and won't run the programs I need.

You like Mozilla, sure, use it. I like IE because just about everyone is at least familiar with it and I really can't be bothered to tune another browser to my prefs. It works fine and is perfectly stable.

Although I must voice my concerns over Microsoft's internal posting system. I sent them a cheque three weeks ago for a replacement disk. It arrived yesterday. Not everyone has a credit card. :roll:

When typing code, wrap it in [CODE] and [/CODE] tags; and then indent stuff using the [INDENT] and [/INDENT]; for example:

Windows Messenger comes with Windows. You should already have it somewhere in your start menu, but i haven't used '98 in such a long time I don't remember.
