IMHO, this site seems to get worse everytime I visit. No offence, but when i first came here, the place was quiet, but free of Ads and had a great style. A few months down the line, and the place was flooded with Ads and that kind of stuff making me far less inclined to visit again.
Then, the next time I visit, I find it has been converted to vBulliten? I'm afraid there's no board system I despise more. It's unlikely I'll be visiting very often again.

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

Instead of using a non-root account, like ur supposed to :P

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

Perhaps you need to change your Bios? Try setting all the IDE devices to Auto Detect. But memorise the old settings first ;).

Since I can access FAT32 filesystems from Linux Mandrake, I wondered if the reverse was true. I soon found out that it is (too a limited degree), with some freeware generously provided from http://ext2.yeah.net.

I would not trust any external file system under Windows. Maybe Knoppix would help you there.

Listen, it works fine (on my PC).

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

I wouldnt be writting to a linux partiton from windows, sounds a lil too risky for me.

however i havent used windows in a year sooo..:p

Well, I'm just reading stuff from it.

Since I can access FAT32 filesystems from Linux Mandrake, I wondered if the reverse was true. I soon found out that it is (too a limited degree), with some freeware generously provided from http://ext2.yeah.net. However, you will notice some limitations in writing data and that prevuiously hidden files (prepended with a dot '.') are visible in Windows, cluttering folder view up.

This didn't even require a restart, although Windows warns you that installing the driver might muck everything up (I think it's jealous that it now has to share the hard drive with Linux ;))

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

For only one operating system, WindowsXP Professional on the primary partition of the master hdd, boot.ini should look something like this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

I'm Running Linux Mandrake and Windows XP Pro. The boot loader that comes free with Mandrake looks horrible. Is there anyway to modify the boot.ini file to boot both?

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

Sounds like a cookie problem.

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

oh, how I wish forum members everywhere would at least give city & state locations in their profiles

Or country - we don't all live in America, you know

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

Forget computers, being cool, and people sucking up.

Women will always prefer guys with fast cars.

Who do u think comes up with the engines for fast cars? :P

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

I think he just wants a prompt in the right direction...

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

Just do me a fav and let me know if you see the Administrator Link at the bottom of the page. I've noticed that with certain forum upgrades, regular users can see it for some reason.

Is that before, or after we mess everything up?

:P

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

:D awwww... but still, haha! :P

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

you serious? like ... you had ADMIN PERMISSIONS to edit/delete/moderate posts, etc? Or were you just able to see the Admin Panel link? What if you tried clicking on it? Were you able to do anything?

*looks at cscgal getting worked up* I can't believe you fell for that! :P :D

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

I also noticed that I was an administrator before... perhaps u could fix that for me...

:P

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

All I noticed is that I was logged out (I'm normally automatically logged in), but everything seems to work now. :)

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

Or u can press F8 as Windows is about to start and it'll popup :D

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

I guess I just have to wait until I install something else. Is there anything else I can go about doing?

You could format and start again - works for me :D

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

Yeah! :D

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

Yes, I do have something against PHP. Ask any other ASP.NET programmer, they'll all say the same thing.

One you go to ASP.NET, you'll never go back.

I took a quick look at the language... Ewwwww! Evil Asp.net!

I'm a php person myself! :D Grrr... Get off this php driven site powered by phpBB, the greatest forum system ever! :P And if it isn't the greatest now, take a look at phpBB2.2! :D :P

Where was I? Oh yeah, I hate ASP.Net :P

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

Well, it might not be illegal to link to warez, but it sure isn't professional. Does download.com have a link to a warez website? I don't think so.

Links to warez websites may turn off your viewers, because it questions the legality of the content on your website.

I don't think it is legal to promote illegal activities - and that would probably include a direct link to a warrez site.

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

Advertising - try banner exchange programmes (http://banners.eukhost.com is one I can think of off hand)... Also make sure your members are really into the site, that will get them to tell other people about it, etc...

I've recently noticed that my pagefile.sys thing is at 700+ megabytes and that might be what's slowing down my system, and I just want a little extra diskspace. Is there any SAFE way to change this so it's not so big, maybe making a new file with the same name, then deleting the old one?

I heard it has something to do with freeing memory, but I know nothing about it.

Well, 'Mr Gates'...

(Windows XP Solution - May not be exact)

  • Right Click On My Computer and click Properties. Click on the Advanced tab, and click on the top settings button, under the performance frame. Click on the Advanced tab of the dialogue that pops up. Click on Change. Click on the Custom Radio button and set the minimum and maximum figures of one and a half times your physical memory capacity (eg: 64MB Ram: 64MB + Half of 64MB = 64 + (64 / 2) = 64 + 32 = 96. You can of course adjust these figures but thats the default. Next time you start Windows, the paging file will be limited to that amount.[/list:u]

I love using X-Chat with MS's Veranda font, its orgasmic.

:| Sounds like u need to get out more ;) :P

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

And Embarrasement...

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

IS this for real? Where is it? :P

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

You must give content type see the example below:

mail($to, $object, $message, "From: $from\nReply-To: $from\nContent-Type: text/html;);
8)

Isn't there a " between the

text/html;

and the

);

?

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

Solved it. Didn't know about the id property.

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

I have a marquee which will slow down on mouseover.

<marquee behavior="scroll" scrollAmount="6" onMouseOver="this.scrollAmount=1" onMouseOut="this.scrollAmount=6" onMouseDown="this.scrollAmount=0" onMouseUp="this.scrollAmount=1"> Some links and other stuff here... </marquee>

However, it is annoying, becuase I don't want the marquee to slow down unless the user moves over a link. Does anyone know how I can refer to the marquee's properties from inside the tags?

EG: Using the 'onMouseOver="this.scrollAmount=1"', only with something like 'onMouseOver="thatmarquee.scrollAmount=1"' inside the <A HREF> tags?

The Dude commented: I like your little code thing,it slows down wheni hover over it,pretty kewl! +9
Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

Simple. Create the executable, and run the VB Package and Deployment wizard. Then run the creaed file on the person's PC and it will install your executable and all files required by it.

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

yeah, the web-dev. language. i think i phrased the question in the wrong way.

"The" web-dev language? IF anyone had asked what that was I would have said HTML... of course there are many other web-dev languages, including JavaScript, php, asp, VB Script...

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

I use windows because it is reliable, adaptive, and works, at least for me.

If your version doesn't it's probably Windows is misconfigured or low system specs.

Satalite signals are beamed over a narrow area on Earth. They are not transmitted 360 degrees - you couldn't use a dish to transmit them then, adn it would be thhousands of times more expensive.

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

Seti scans the skies for leaked radio waves, like the TV Signals we are transmitting now. the bad news is, we are getting more and more efficent and less and less information is leaving our Solar System. Your mobile telphone call is sent via high-frequency radiowaves (on the verge of Microwave radiation) which is absorbed by interceding matter much faster than low frequency radio waves. Cable TV signals don't even get into the air, and Satalite Signals are of course beamed towards Earth from Space, not the otherway round.
So if we are getting more efficent at preventing leaked radio waves, why shouldn't another civillisation? There is pratically no chance we would they would be in between the first phases of radio transmission and the first phases of preventing leakage... unless, of course, they are looking for us.

I prefer to use my CPU to help find a cure for cancer.

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

And they ignore any abuse!

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

Don't want it too full though... Maybe a random selection of them could be displayed on the main page?

Can i create my own InstallShield installs then?

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

Is it possible to create a .msi installation package using the deployment wizard in VB 6.0 Learning Ediiton? Also, can I change that horrible installtion screen to the more modern "Office 2000/XP Installation"? Or do I need to buy some horribly expensive add-on?

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

I know what you mean. I get that at my fora.

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

Cool. *Runs away adn hides under bed before CSCGal can get angry* ;)

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

Yeah, looks much more... "fitting" ;).

Hmmm... what happened to the emotiocn thingy where you can just click the one you want? Or is it a trap to get newbies?

Errr... *struggling*
The
"Goto page 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 Next", the "You're browsing the Geek's Lounge forum" and the "Users browsing this forum: Roberdin" is a little big?

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

Well, you haven't signed me up to any spam lists (so far)... so you're on my favourites list.

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

Well if you were to ask me... I suppose the menu bar at the top is a little big compared to the site. Maybe if you tone that down a little it will encourge those on 800x600 resolutions.
A Main board index? It is a little difficult to navigate the news page for forums.
Hmmm... More themes? Can be downlaoded from phpbb.com. Although they can be diffcult to manage when implementing modifications to the code (speaking from expierence here).

Roberdin 9 Supreme Evil Overlord Team Colleague

To all those who have posted and made TTF what it is, thank you! You guys are all definitely appreciated!

*Takes a bow, catches roses thrown at him from the audience*
