click 'organize' and then 'folder and search options'
from this new window click the 'view' tab, scroll down
and uncheck 'use sharing wizard'
and then try all you have tried before...

try subnet 255.255.255.0, then use a web browser and put your gateway(router) in the address line(to access router settings)and if your router has a reset button, try it.(perhaps someone hacked your router)

sounds like some of the automatic startup services have been changed to manual startup type, you can change them back using services.msc from run line or admin CMD

besides, you don't have to erase the hard drive if all you are trying to do is clean it. just kidding i know what you mean. you can erase a hard drive with just about any type of OS install disc. just delete the partitions using the partitions manager then exit without installing. Linux Ubuntu is probably your best bet if you can't find a Microsoft disc.

probably because windows7 and linux don't play well together. try using Disk Cleanup

there is a few possiblities, perhaps it could have something to do with the homegroup. or the sharing wizard. or the router settings. or the pc's firewalls...the error says 'problem with network name' try checking the network sharing center settings on the PC's

then,(as said before) you will need a repair or install disc. repair discs are sold online for $10.

@ laila: i didn't mean to sound mad, but i get frustrated because i've seen this before(and never the owner's fault, really)...
in the future, you should create a standard user account for people who can use your computer, and keep the administrator user password to yourself.

the drawback to this is standard users cannot install stuff and they will eventually ask for your password...

I don't know that you should need to open any ports.
Is there a reason you aren't using private IP addresses in the LAN?
