Hi,welcome to DaniWeb, your not alone Hotmail error

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

im trying to format this computer so i tried setting it to boot from the cd rom first and i relized that i dont have that option in the bios. So i tired putting my xp cd in anyway and no luck same thing with the 98 boot disk

Hi ,I think if you computer is that old that it doesn't have the cd boot first option then you won't enjoy winxps' speed anyway ,what OS is on it now ? win98.Any way you can go to www.bootdisk.com and get the winxp boot floppys .and try that ,make sure you computer is set for the floppy disk, first boot

Hi ,Welocme to Daniweb ,sorry for the delay .I don't really have an answer ,as I don't know a lot about laptops ,but am thinking maybe there is something in the Bios to disable it or maybe in Device manager ,if you right ckick on the entry for the pointer is there something there to disable the Accupoint mouse .
I just found this with a google search
quote!
Subject: Drifting Accupoint Mouse
Ever wonder why does the Accupoint Mouse periodically drift? Well here is the answer.
Solution:

Self-Calibration. (Accupoint Mouse) It is normal for the mouse cursor to occasionally drift for 5 to 10 seconds. It will stop on its own when the calibration is complete. The Accupoint periodically performs this function on its own. This is normal. Wait until the movement stops, allow the Accupoint to run it's recalibration process (usually 5 to 10 seconds).

NOTE: Fighting the cursor movement only prolongs the process. Possible Hardware Problem (All Mice): If the mouse cursor drifts persistently for as long as a minute or two, and then resists your efforts to reposition it then you may have a hardware issue requiring service.

Caution: Allowing your finger to rest on the Accupoint button may cause the mouse to begin the recalibration process.

Download 'Hijack This!'. HijackThis
Save it in a convenient permanent folder such as C:\HJT\, double click HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

Or HERE if that link fails to work or you don't have a zip program installed .

Your copy of HijackThis needs to be in a folder of it's own. When HJT fixes anything, it makes backups of the original files in the folder it is in. Since Temporary folders are emptied now and then (the files are DELETED), it would not be a good idea to have your backups there. Those backups would be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

Hi everyone,
i have a motorola surfboard cable modem, and in the device manager i get the message:The device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device (Code 31). I have tried updating to the newest driver, which didn't work, and i also removed it from the list and rebooted, which also didnt work. Everything i have found on code 31 deals with a cd or dvd rom device. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how i could fix this problem. Thanks in advance for the help!!

have you tried unplugging the modem from wall plug for 5 min or so,remove it from device manager and thenplug it back in and trying to load drivers .

Folks,

In browsing for clues to the Generic Host Process for Win32 Services error I get from time to time, I happened across the DaniWeb site and learned that I should send you all a Hijack This log for you to look at. So here it is.

I must say that when this process bows out, I don't seem to notice any loss of function in my computer. Also, a Windows Explorer search for ntspcv.exe, intspvc.exe, and winsvc.exe yields no hits.

Anyway, if you could advise me of a way to get rid of this error message, I'd greatly appreciated it.

Thanks, Lee Hassig

For example: When I go to my school's website and click on the link for Student Records, it's supposed to open the link in a new window.... but it never does.

that could be cause by a popup stopper .if you have one installed or if you are using the winxp sp2 one ,try holding down the CTRL key or maybe the ALT key ,when you click on the link .

Another example: I click on Start > Search.... and nothing comes up.

When I'm in IE and have the problem, the original screen freezes for a short while but then goes back to normal w/o opening the new window. During that time I can switch tasks just fine, but when I click on that original one again, it says it's not responding for nearly a minute before going back to normal.

I've run Norton Virus Scan, as well as all the System Works diagnostics. I've also tried doing System Restore to older dates as well as running a Scan Disk, no problems have been found, and I can't restore to an old dates.

Anyone have any ideas?

I tried that, since I found that in another thread somewhere and here is what happened.....

I click on Start > Run > type in SFC....

A DOS window pops up really quickly and disappears, then I'm brought back to the run box. Is that what is supposed to happen? When can I put in /scannow?

with xp you have to type it all at the same time with a space between sfc and this /scannow

This was a great tip. In previous versions of MS Office, there was a button on the Office Toolbar for Executing the Screensaver, this is not available in the newer version of Office. Do you have any idea of how to setup a shortcut to execute the Chosen Screensaver?

hi ,if you go the c:\windows\system32 folder you will find the windows screensaver files they have the extension .scr ,you can just right click on one and send it to the desktop as a short cut.
or you could right click on the desktop choose new ./shortcut, and put the screensave path in like this one ,C:\WINDOWS\system32\sspipes.scr and save it and that will load that screen saver ,you could then drage it from the desktop to the quick launch tool bar .and exectute the screensaver from there ,

did you just install this modem in the computer or was it allready installed,if you can take it out you can look on the modem for a jumper to set it to com 1 or 2 ,some older modems had this option ,or you maybe to enter the BIOS on bootup and look in ther to set the com port .

The one thing in common is that all three of the cartridges are over 2 years old, the newest was on my shelf for when I needed to replace. I just saw on the web that a lawsuit has been filed against HP for supposedly putting a shutdown date on the chip in all their cartridges to make them stop functioning on that date, empty or not. Could it be that since my cartridges are older that they all have gone off because of this chip?

zeroth

a one year old ink cartridge sitting on a shelf is not brand new! the pink is something i just had with my lexmark ,and a new color cartridge fixed it for me .
also i don't think that the shutdown chip was in you older cartridges .
break down and buy a NEW cartridge ,software is not usually the problem !!

oh yes i have.....and i've installed it manually from there as well.......tryed detecting it - don't appear ect. ect.

sorry I've never had that happen to me so I'm lost as to what to tell you.i cant imagine that all 3 modems are bad .are they win modems by any chance ,i did have problems once trying to install a USRobotic win modem once ,problem was ,when it install first time wrong ,the info was in the registry and it would not reinstall until i edited the registry and removed all reference to winmodem, just a thought .

Ok. Thanks. Is there any thing you can do in the registry to fix this???

not sure a search finds allkinds of way to loggoff ,i like this one ,and it works with no message ,i just created one and clicked it and it logged off no questions asked ,and i was in the middle of converting mp3s' and posting here .had to start all over .
