There IS NO modem icon in the device manager. [/I]

did you check for icon in start/settings/control panel not device manager !

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

spot on the mode button pushes in :D ty...the only think now i done it too quick and went into the menu and ive now set it on chinese :o but i play around with it and hoefully get it back to english...ty for all your help :D

OK .I think there almost must be a number on it somewhere that will indicate what kind it is and maybe find a maunal or some other info in a google search !

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

i did notice one thing, next to the battery indicator there is like a dotted arrow and above it, it says pro :?: never seen it on the display before

look for a mode button, push it to see if you can get rid of the pro .mine actually doesent have a random button but a mode button and a big P darkens when i push the mode button ,P is for random order on mine .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

you dont say what kind of mp3 player it is, not that it would help .but you never know .
My suggestion would be to make sure the random play button ,if it has one [mine does ]isn't stuck in !

I've ordered & downloaded GRC's Spinrite, but so far have had no success making a bootable CD (I'd welcome instruction on that, but I'm waiting for a response from GRC tech support).
Anyone else have any thoughts on something I can try?
TIA,
Mark

Hi ,I use spinrite ,have been using it for about 7 yrs now .,I think I used Nero burning roms option to make a bootable cd ,and copied and burned spinrite.exe to it .
Also if you bios doesn't see the hard drive ,Spinrites not going to detect it either .

caperjack 875 I hate 20 Questions Team Colleague

try this download the system tool to show whats in you computer
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/everest.html
Install and run the program ,on the left side see motherboard in this section click on chipset ,scrool down and in chipset manufacturer there should be a web address for driver download follow it to the sound driver .maybe !!

. I have an older computer which has a partioned drive. I'm out of space on the c: drive where windows is located and can't upgrade the security patches.
Thanks for the help.

I would suggest going to control panel and uninstall some added programs that you don't use often !
then do you updates ,then you could reinstall the program if you want ,only do it differently this time and change the default install path [usually c:\program files ]so as to install the program on the other partition .you will have to make the path change for each install ,change it to what ever your other drive letter is like ,D:\programs , or what ever the drive letter to the other partition is . it will create the Programs folder and intall the programs into it ,

Hi. I was on my laptop and I have had Trend Micro's program about a month now. Everything has been fine. I never took the Norton Anti off though. So all the sudden Trend Micro is popping up alerts like mad that a virus called JAVA OPENSTR.A is appearing in a bunch of files under C:\Windows\TEMP. Now Norton is doing the same but listing the virus Trojan.ByteVerify in that same folder. I ran Trend Micro to see if it could pick up the source. Picked up nothing. So I went to Norton's site and it said run Norton in safe mode. I did that and nothing was picked up. I ran Spybot it picked up Viewpoint and fixed it. Still didn't help. Now I had seen some previous posts where the virus was atleast picked up in a virus scan. I don't know if JAVA OPENSTR.A and Trojan.ByteVerify are one in the same or what. I just finished Trojan Hunter which found nothing as well. I'm going to try running Ad-Aware. What else can I do? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you.

When I changed to Roadrunner I started getting a popup every time I went to a different page using Explorer.

Of course, Roadrunner claims that I got some spyware or something but I have a network with three computers and they all started having this problem at the same time, so their explanation is a smokescreen!

I suppose I need a popup blocker of some kind but in today's environment, I'm afraid of any kind of download like this. Can someone recommend a reputable popup blocker (I use norton's corporate edition anti-virus). It's really a big pain to have to close a popup every time I go to a new screen and/or have all those open windows when I get finished with a search...

Thanks in advance,

I would recommend the goggle toolbar for a pop up stopper, safe free program .

When i print pages from the internet and etc. it always cuts half the page off, how do i resolve this issue?

The newest versions of Internet Explorer (5.0 and up) and Netscape (6.0 and up) will fit a printed image to the size of the page, but older browsers will allow images to be cropped to fit page width (532 pixels in A4 letter size).

Check out these sites .

Simple: don't use IE. Like most other Microsoft technologies, it is willfully non-standards-compliant, badly-broken software that introduces endless opportunities for crackers to take over your computer. Once you get used to Firefox/Netscape 7.2, you'll never return to MSIE/Outlook Express unless your employer forces you to do so as a condition for keeping your job.

In fact, the same could be said of Windows itself. There just seems to be no computer that has sufficient power to run XP. Sure, it's blazing fast right out of the box before you actually install any software on it and start using it. But that's only because it is neglecting to do the background housekeeping that a real OS does to, for examples, keep the virtual memory system optimized for any given processing load and keep the hard drive defragmented. And let's not even talk about the hideous registry bloat you get after just six months of real-world use. So after paying out several hundred dollars for this convicted monopoly's OS, you have to shell out another couple hundred for all sorts of extra software to band-aid over all your computer's security holes and to force it to do all the self-maintenance that it would be doing in any case if it were a good OS.

My advice: try Linux. Don't be afraid. It won't bite. In fact, it won't even suck (like Windows). The major distros have become as easy or easier to install than Windows, and are better looking and more fun …

I changed windows explorer not to have the arrow at the bottom and have to scroll down long ago. Now I want to do the same thing to Internet Explorer. I have lost how I went about getting windows explorer to do that and the reason for this question. How do I get Internet Explorer to put the windows side by side when I click on Favorites and not have to use the arrow at the bottom of the favorites to scroll down. This just takes a lot of time but if the favorites came up side by side that would be great. Thanks for any help on this.

Ron Spruell

Hi ,I don't know how to do what you want to do ,but I think that side by side is a function avaiable in older versions of IE ,like 5.0 and 5.5 ,not an option in 6.0,I actually am glad because I had so many favorites that it useto go right off the screen to the right .

SO- I'm going to look for a more detailed explanation of the HKEY thing... I still don't understand what I should be looking for, or exactly what I'm doing with that.

Whynot just switch to Mozilla Firefox browser and us IE for windows updates .
