OK,it could be either hardware or software .start with this ,open the case and remove all addin cards like modem and sound ,ect ect ,unplug the cdrom ,and floppy ,try to turn it on see what happens.?? if nothing ,then take out the video card ,reboot does it sound like it booted up!!.
does the old computer you took the modem out of have a pci video card ,if so try it in the other computer .and a cdrrom you could try
if none of this help ,put everything back in !
lets try ram,does the computer have 2 ram chips, if yes take one out and try to boot up ,if no difference put it back and take out the other cjip .
Let me know what happens .
also if your old computer has a hard drive try it ,disconect the hardrive and put the old one in !

I know not everyone likes noton ,there once was a time i use others ,but It got to were Iliked noton the best, so i use it ,usually the first program loaded after a fesh windows install.
I didn't load the works! just the virus protection ,it now has a trojan and work blocking feature ,why it even blocked my P2P ,until i configred it to allow it .

The welded in one ,lol, is considered onboard ,you will need motherboard chipset drivers to make it work ,if it functions ,now the sound blaster one will work better so you need to disable the unboard one ,this is done either by a jumper on the board or in the BIOS ,if we knew what motherboard was in th ecomputer we might be able to help you .so to find out the motherboard you can open the case and look for a name and number on the board !

Please delete your temporary files by deleting all files and folders that are in those folders (do not delete the temp folder itself) like for example

Im no expert ,but if i had what you have i would use the 20 for windows ,the 120 as slave for storage ,and with 1gig of ram i would disable swap file and use the memory for it ,it would make the swap faster .

If you mean the 'Ctrl-Alt-Del logon', go to Control Panel, User Accounts, and under Pick a Task, select 'Change the way users log on and off'.
Uncheck Use Welcome Screen, this will also trash Fast User Switching.

Nlited installation of XP, removed IEcore amoung other things, user accounts is the only thing that won't work (since it depends on IEcore), so im just trying to find a workaround.

Ya i am just in there and have registered at their forum as well. I don't think that Netscape is that outdated, i have heard lots of people complaining it to be "slow" and whatever, well none of that here.... compared with IE, my Netscape is a well-greased lightning bolt, and i never ran into any problem with sites not willing to open or Java crashing or whatever. I am using the current version since half a year or so, and never cought a trojan, virus etc... never been hijacked (yes, i DO visit web sites known for doing that) and therefor, i wish to keep Newtscape at least untill i really tested Firefox.

Hence, as long as i didn't find a way to have them both on my PC, Firefox will be left out.........

I have had all 3 on at one time and don't see why you are having aproblem installing firefox.The more popular firefox becomes the more proplems it will have just like IE! Sometime in the near future someone is going to make a big money offer and it will be SOLD :)just like netscape was !

Please do this.
Download 'Hijack This!'. HijackThis
Save it in a convenient permanent folder such as C:\HJT\, double click HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

Your copy of HijackThis needs to be in a folder of it's own. When HJT fixes anything, it makes backups of the original files in the folder it is in. Since Temporary folders are emptied now and then (the files are DELETED), it would not be a good idea to have your backups there. Those backups would be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

1. Please go to you're 'My Documents' folder, right-click and select 'New > Folder' then name the folder 'HJT'.

2. Copy and paste HijackThis.exe to the new folder.

3. Close ALL windows except HJT

4. SCAN with HJT

5. POST the new log in this thread using 'Add Reply'

The above means you are using msconfig selective startup ,,you should set it to normal startup so that all devices show up in the hijack log .You can use hijack to stop the programs instead

Nero is great for backing up Data or music ,and program .exes' that you downloaded and saved to HD ,not programs allready install on the computer !!

no install the sp2 first .it is the updates !!then go to win updates and get any really new ones .

Do a ALT+CTRL+DEL ,and check processes and see if any are using up all you CPU ,system idel process will show high # if nothing else is using up all the cpu

well that depends on what video card you are using ,it has drivers for most of the older PCI cards ,
Easy way is to shut down computer and unplug it and open the case and remove the video card and get the name and model # or a # off the chipset ,usually on the largest chip on the card .
,and post back here with the info or search the net for the best drivers with the #s'.

stick #1 in the drive and try to install ,one way to find out .
