in stead of using the netzero icon ,try setting internet explorer to auto dial when you click on it !
open IE,go to tools/internet options/connections ,and check off always dial my default connection . close IE then open it again .
If you already have it set like that ,then i din't know what else to say except maybe uninstall netzero software and reinstall

After the format of the drive with ME on it all will be lost .and xp will install on that partition !

first ,you do need to load windows on the hardrive and not the ram !
the charity shop process isn't going to work in you tower .
If you are going to be only using it for basic computing and going on the net I would look into the one built in 1999,find out some of the specs like size of harddrive and processor and how much ram it has ,it might be good enough for what you need .

you dont need to deleted the partiton just select format the partition ,choose NTFS file system when asked
you don't need to save drivers ,just persional data .
winxp has drivers for most every computer i put it on in the past few years .

i don't have my display like i used too ,,,the colors are like,,,,well i don't have colors and i can't change them through control panel when i try to change to 16 bits high it says to restart my computer and when it finshed to restart everything's the same, big icons, no colors, well very few,,,, and i don't want to pay more to the technical guy, what should i do ,,,my sound it is already fixed thanks for your help but now what can i do with my display,,,,oh and i almost forget it every time i turn on my computer ,,,before starting windows it shows a menu with the option for safe mode, normal ,and other options does this is part of my display issue?

on boot do you choose normal mode or safe mode .in safe mode the display will be big as no video display driver are loaded ,if you are going into normal mode and get the big display and only 16 bit ,you may have lost you video drives and will need to download new ones from the manufactor of the video adapter .

Well i cant tell you what to save on you computer ,but can add that only things you can reall save are file you created or downloded ,not programs you installed .
Like if you download music and have a burner you colud save the songs ,if you created word documents like letters or anything like that .if when you format the partition with ME on it all will be deleted/lost .
as for it hurting the harddrive the answer would be no ,unless the drive is about to die anyway .

looks weird ,unless you have really fine tuned you system !i dont under stand where the rest of the log is .

not knowing what OS ,you are using or the specs of your machine it hard to even start helping !
I do like norton and have 2005 installed but i didn't install it all just the virus scan .no slow down noticed .i install the whole thing on my daughters celeron 600,512 meg ram fresh install of winxp .next program loaded was nNorton ,which i think is the best way to install nortons securitys , no slowdown .
as for the viruses if you are using ME or XP you cold try system restore back to before your fixes .and try another remval tool.

can i play any dvd cd in my cd rom/cd writer
if i install any software of it.saying it can play all the cd's???

unless you made a typo ,[cd rom/cd writer]it need to read DVD/CD-RW.]you don't have a dvd player installed in you computer ,so you will not be able to play dvds'
If it was a typo and you do have a dvd player install .,you could get ,WinDVD player , or CyberLinks ,Power DVD .
If you bought the player new it should have come with software .

this could be a heat problem ,a problem with ram ,you will need to trouble shoot the problem .first open you case and make sure the fans are spinning and your CPU fan is not clogged with dust ,

if its an upgrade, it needs an os to upgrade from... if you delete windows me, there is no os for it to upgrade from, and therefore, the installation will fail.

Let me add that this is not the case !!
you can install the upgrade on a clean hdrive as long as you have the key to put in for the Win ME you own. as long as its not a recovery cd .

I have recently purchased an mp3, and I have Windows 98 SE. I need to know how to add music files to the mp3 player. Can you please give me step by step instructions? thank you

just for the heck of it .you just drag and drop them in windows explorer just you would move any files around you computer .you mp3 player becomesa removal disk .also to get the maximun amount of songs on that the manufactor say will fit on the memory you will need to use a mp3 file converter to cut the bit rate of the mp3 down from 128bit [what most mp3 are ] to 64 or 75 ,you may loose a little in the quality ,but unless you have a IPod with lots of memory you will want to do this !I do anyway .but i only have a 64 meg player ! what i use is music machjukebox software that came with the player ,i convert the mp3 to mp3 ,just lower the bitrate .

Don't be to hard on yourself . .
,There are many reasons for you slowness ,one is Spyware/Trojans or Virus problem .another is Memory problems, do you Defrag you hardrive ,so lets start with the spyware checking first !

Save it in a convenient permanent folder such as C:\HJT\, double click HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

Those backups would be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

1. Please go to you're 'My Documents' folder, right-click and select 'New > Folder' then name the folder 'HJT'.

2. Copy and paste HijackThis.exe to the new folder.

3. Close ALL …

That's all well and good unless there are virus containing files in the system restore folders...

and if they are they cant get out unless you do a system restore .
Better to have a bad restore point than no restore point at all !!

Start, then Run, then regedit

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom.
Double-click the Autorun value, and type 1 for its value. (If it's not there, create
it by selecting Edit -> New -> DWORD Value, and typing "Autorun" for its name).

xp usually needs to be reinstall when you add a new motherboard !
You may be able to get away with a repair install .

Also i don't under stand in your first post you say that all it gets is balck screen and blinking cursor,and then you say it didn't reconise the modem so you changed it ???
