First I don't use passwords for my winxp so not sure if this works ,but try booting into safe mode and log on as the real admin that showes up in safe mode and see if you can use it to make changes to your profile.

Ok, tried both of above or all three, still had the problem, an added problem that cannot delete or change any recieved e-mail but that is for another time. I am now going to work on the next part using the hijack this info provided. Thank you all for the help...crossing my fingers

The problem is Caperjack. Some of us are always busy and travel a lot. So "testing" is a luxary. This is the first time I have some spare time since I had brain surgery on my temporal lobe. Kinda gives you some time off of work. I dont have player software for my dvd drive in my pc. I will just download some.

Don't take any BS...

I run 98se and it does everything better than ME,2000 or XP without the cost

My suggestions are simple... Keep it
Download the FREE 98lite and use it to remove Internet Explorer
Install Firefox
Install Zonealarm... Firewall
Install Ad-aware se
Install Spybot
Keep a copy of HijackThis available should you need it...

You will then have the most stable of ANY M$ Windows OS

I would also suggest you check out the up and comming LinuxLive CDs
They boot and run in RAM only, never touching your hard drive (Unless you specifically want it to)
It lets you test drive another OS without having to actually install it.
They are complete systems right down to OpenOffice and CD Burning software... Games and more...

They are handy to have around as they would have allowed you to fix the problem you are having right now because they also include disc partitioning software...

If you get a chance, pick up a copy...
I would suggest you try Mepis or Knoppix.
They are included with several books you will find at the bookstore or if you have broadband you can download it for free.

The good news is those coasters took too much time and resources to do. So i kept them :). So i guess right now we will blame my dvd player. I will keep you updated So to sum up DVD Shrink and Nero are the dvd burning software to use?

I don't under stand why when you burn the dvd you don't just test them in you DVD burner ,as its also a dvd player.that should have come with windvd /or power dvd or some other dvd player software .also windows media player 10 will play the dvds'
when i burn a dvd i just pop it right back in and play it ,when it says burn finished and the tray opens !!

It may not be necessary to re-install OE. Many times, the following information is a solid fix for many problems.

Try using Internet Explorer's repair option:

Well, maybe that is not the TECHNICAL expression, but I cannot do anything that relates to typing. Like placing the cursor in the message window and typing an email (like I am doing right now). Also online, the username password or search windows will not accept the cursor so I can type the required information. I hope it is clearer now.

Ivw read this a few time and still can't figure out what you mean .first you say writing tools grayed out in ie5 ,then you say word processing tools in Outlook express ,.

I got the file back and was able to transfer my webpages. The problem was the firewall. I removed whole F-Secure and it started to work. Crazy thing is that it even effected the webmail I used from sendin e-mails... I hope I can manage with the free firewall and virus protection.

I Knew MS bought GIANT's program and slapped a label on it. I was hoping they would have done a better job of protecting the system while they are cleaning it.... but that's why I built my own personal protector to work in junction with MS's. *shrug*

Don't click on it ,right click and copy it then go to your c:\windows\system folder or system32 folder and paste it into there ,

By the look of your new log you can just do all the previsous suggested fixes as not much has changed in the new log

If you don't allready have Service Pack 2 you should download it or get a copy first ,to install before you go on the net after the reinstall because you will get nastie viruses before you get a chance to get to windows updates .

I removed rundll32.exe from my computer [partly accidently as I thought it was a virus] and now I want it back.

Can I find it somewhere? Search in the internet has not given any results.

If you are using winxp .go to start/run /type in SFC /SCANNOW [ note there is a space between the SFC and the / ]and it should find that rundll32.exe is missing and replace it ,you will need you widows dis in the cdrom for this to work .also if you are not using winxp ,just type in SFC .

Rundll32 .exe can be virus/trojan releated but usually only if its found on the root of C:\ or in a folder outside the System or System32 folders .

To check right click on the file in question and hit properties ,and look for microsoft in the info

No ,no file transfer between the two at all .Mine is a little different than the one shown in the link .Mine looks like a 6 legged spider ,3 cables plugs into my tower ,mouse keyboard and video ,then i plug my video,mouse and keyboard into the body of it ,and then there are 3 cables to plug into the other tower, and you use a double hit on the Scroll/Lock key on the keyboard to swith from computer to computer !

I had a similar problem once. I had an existing windows installation with older burning software, I cant at the moment remember the name, I did a fresh install using Nero and it worked. The one that caused the problem was also a four letter name that was bought by Symantic.. One of those that is on the tip of my tongue... Argh But yea... everything showed up as an audio file

It might be the lack of RAM. I have seen some CD burners be sensitive to that (odd as it may sound).

Check out the specs on the retail box (if it is not retail, look 'em up) and you might get some idea of why not.

I've never used ME ,but it does have a system restore much like winxp.
I think it to late for not taking it to the Shop !
the biggest problem with taking a computer to the shop first without trying to fix it youself is !! The shop can make mre mone off you by selling you new parts ,quicker to install and load a new HD,or Mother board ,/thus more profit!! Most don't even know what is causing your problem and don't care ,because they think you/we don't know enought to not beleive what they tell you was wrong !! I know this because i spend my lunch brakes hanging out in a small computer shop .that does all these things on a daily bases .And people keep coming back!biggest reason is because the only other shop in town ,2 doors away is to expensive ,owned by a real tech ,and he knows what is time is worth !

another way to tell alithought not 100%, Did they charge you full price for winxp or give you a discount , they didnt give you a CD .most don't have the nerve to charge full price !for the Devil>
also go to windows updates to get the latest critical updates ,unless they changed the key # it shouldn't work ,if it does work get all gritical updates.

You learn from what you do. Try it, any way screw the drive lol. Just open it,jsut make sure you touch something metal before hand. Also not many PC's come with driver CD's anymore. I purchased two new drives nor came with a disk. Any way jsut unplug the cables to the disk drive,and boot up. Delete the hardware profiles from add/remove hardware, then shut down and reinstall the device. Just liek i said toucxh metal before hand, you fry your pc, i dont want to get yelled at.

Its A laptop!! not much to open on most ,and not a lot of metal ..

!! Anyway try this ,right click on mycomputer ,/hardware /device manager /hit the + next to cdrom devices and remove or delete whats there,reboot windows and it will reload the drives needed ,see what hapens could be that you drive is Dead !!

not sure ,i have a new computer and some of hte disks i put in wind up really fast ,but not all of them !so i dont know that it means anything !
make sure the disk 2 is good and clean

viruses and trojans on you machine can cause this ,or you time is up!!nortons live updates has expired! try this

This problem could occur because of Spyware , go on over to the Security section of this fourm and post you problem along with a hijackthis log .

Download 'Hijack This!'. HijackThis
Save it in a convenient permanent folder such as C:\HJT\, double click HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

Your copy of HijackThis needs to be in a folder of it's own. When HJT fixes anything, it makes backups of the original files in the folder it is in. Since Temporary folders are emptied now and then (the files are DELETED), it would not be a good idea to have your backups there. Those backups would be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

1. Please go to you're 'My Documents' folder, right-click and select 'New > Folder' then name the folder 'HJT'.

2. Copy and paste HijackThis.exe to the new folder.

3. Close ALL windows except HJT

4. SCAN with HJT

5. POST the new log in this thread using 'Add Reply'

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS SOME OF …

I too use Norton Virus scanner ,not the Norton internet security one i found many problems with all of them loaded but that was back a few years ,
I have tried the other free virus scanners mentioned ,they are good but i found Nortons better and will continue to install on my computer and computers i format and reload to sell or ones belonging to other Customers of mine !!
It can slow down a computer that doesn't meet the system requirements of Nortons.
Just my opinion!:)

Also is there any way to open multiple window and fax viewer windows so that you can compare two photos side-by-side? Thanks for any help on this one!

this is not fax viewer but the windows photo viewer .same program allmost me thinks
you can open the same photo twice in the viewer and use the maximise button [the one i have circled in red in the attached file ,]on both images after opening and you should be able to resize a little with you mouse ,by dragging the sides of the photo .to see both pictures
