My computer takes around 8 minutes to start, and I want to turn off some of the 75+ processes that start when my computer boots. How can I do this? I have the program Autoruns from Sysinternals on my computer, but unfortunately whenever I open it, the window appears in my taskbar, but nowhere on my screen. the onboard sound card plug in the area of the mouse and keyboard connection of the back of the case ,
the addin pci sound card is located in the lower section of the back of the case

no you should not hear beeps when you boot with no hdd, you would hear beeps if you boot with no ram or no working video device ,the grining noise maybe the cdrom drive .
take out the ram and try booting

right click on mycomputer go to properties /automatic updates and turn on download updates but let me choose when to install them ,

I have to admit that I DIDN'T have any thermal paste to put on there. Could that be causing the problem?!?!?!

could be ,could be causing the cpu to overheat,,but anything could be the problem ,you broke the clip, maybe you broke something else too,are you sure the hdd is in correctly,anything is possible!

also i broke the keyboard closure you mention on a Dell laptop ,i used hot glue stick /gun, to hold it in place ,still working after about 6 mnts!

no sound driver in xp install ,you will need to install drivers from sound card makers website , for your sound drvice/card, if it onboard sound you will need to get them from you motherboards makers website .

try booting to a winxp cd and go R for recovery and rung the chkdsk /f command there !

hi,not sure of the cause ,but has nothing to do with the ntfs format you chose ,as that was the correct one to use!
you could add some more ram for sure ,but it should still be booting fast with the one gig .
are there any add in pci card that you could remove and try a boot with out them ,like and modem or network, or sound card ,or is everything built into the mother board

idon't understand what changes you expect ,i use a retail copy of xp to reload computers that were oem machines, all the time !

in the thread above there are pictures in post #1 of the back of the drive showing 3 or 4 different ones . mine was the first one ,pick yours and have a close look at the pins ,i read and looked and plucked the 45,47 pins with a small very small screwdriver ,used needle nose pliers to bend and cross the 2 pins ,crossed the 47x45 pins so they touch each other and plugged drive in and it worked ,i didn't solder it yet and may not do so!might flash its firmware ,may not

note: pins count from side to side ,therefor the last 3 pins on the first picture are! from left to right along the top of the plug, 49,47,45.

The OS and all system data are still on the 250 GB drive that I am trying to boot from, actually at this point everything is still on that drive since I can't get the RAID configuration working yet

from what i know about raid ,it doesn't work the way you think it does ,you cant raid 2 drives in a 3 drive system !maybe with dual booting ,but then you would have to install windows on one of the new drives ,and install a boot manager program ,i think anyway

hi yes i did set it to boot from the cd in the bios.. and when i restart after the bios splash screen the cd drive does start to spin and sound like its reading the disc but then the screen switches off to standby

this could be caused by power supply or cpu overheating ! make sure all fans are free of dust buildup

obvious thing to do is buy new harddrive , and hook all drives up correctly and it should work

if you can boot to the windows cd and go to "R" for repair,hit 1 for c:\windows ,if it asks for admin password just hit enter ,or the password if you had the admin acct pass worded , and type chkdsk /r, at the prompt ! you should be able to boot to the cd, that program should have no control over you doing so!

ok, try ccleaner to see if a uninstall shows for it .get www.ccleaner.com and run it ,go to tools section and it will show programs to unstall maybe something will show there .
note , when installing ccleaner uncheck the update and google tool bar install . you could also use ccleaner to uninstall temp files and other trash ,and the registry cleaner is good also ,i use it all the time ,safely on my own and many others computers

to check the winxp disk does your computer boot to it .!it does,ok then we know that not the problem ,maybe the cdrom is bad ,you could always hook on good one up to it and try that !
